Sorry about the refusal.
The inconsistency in your undergraduate degree, work experience and proposed program of study is probably why your visa was refused. Hence the purpose of visit reason. I think you should go for a program related to your undergraduate degree or work experience

Sorry for the delay, looking at your profile, inconsistency in ur previous education/employment/proposed course of study in Canada will always amount to d above stated reason "Purpose Of Visit ". Get your GCMS note to see clearly d VO's reason as regards ur application.

From your profile, there is HUGE inconsistency in career advancement.
Your PGD should be making up for academic insufficiency of the (customer relationship) banking experience you have and NOT for another field entirely.

You apparently have NO major dealings with any project of some sort, so why going for project management when your current activity is majorly in 'HUMAN MANAGEMENT'

Anywhere, the purpose of visit is quite understandable and very clear from your profile. Incase, you decide to reapply, avoid the project management, i'd rather you go for 'Human resource management' than project management or go for a program directly related to your current job and explain why u are not going for a master instead.

Well, it has happened already, brace up yourself and hopefully, things will turn out well in your reapplication.

Get your GCMS, it will help you.

Regards.

@ nairalandnewbie, guess you know that no school will hand over transcript to you but can send to other schools, embassy, or organization. Unilag also help to upload to school website as well as send to qualified organization's email.

My parting advise is for you to research more on school's application website that allow you to confirm documents uploaded before submission.

Good luck.

THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR BEFORE SUBMITTING A STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT.

1. BEWARE OF THE OPENING AND CLOSING BALANCES- Recently, some VOs seem to look not only at your closing balance but the opening balance too. Presenting a 6-month statement with an opening balance of 100,000 Naira and a closing balance of say 10,000,000 Naira will preempt questions of trying to build up the account for a visa. You need to explain why the opening balance was so low but the closing balance high. And why do they ask for a 6/4 month statement minimum? Well, to ascertain the activity in the account over that period. Canada and Australia demands a 6-month period. So do explain why your opening balance is as it is, if possible showing proof.

2. CHECK HOW THE ACCOUNT IS BEING RUN-Another issue is the amount of deposits in the account prior to applying for a visa. Why would you put a total of 10,000,000 Naira in the account in the month of say April and May for a visa application in June when from January to March you didn’t even deposit 500,000 Naira? Who are you deceiving? The level of deposits and/or withdrawals must be consistent over time. Anything out of the norm should be evidenced with documentary proof and explained. If you are a salaried worker and for the past 3 months all credits were salary deposits, but suddenly there is this huge 2,000,000 Naira deposit last week from a friend, explain why or your visa will be refused!!!! “Well, I do a little of buying and selling and I put that money also into the account”. The embassy doesn’t know that? If you do side jobs, say it and prove it! Better to say something than leave them to refuse you before you go back appealing or re-applying.

3. SPONSOR’S INCOME STATUS-Particularly worrisome are those students who use 2 or more “uncles”, “aunties”, “sisters”, “brothers” or “cousins” statements for one single visa application especially for a school visa and do not explain what those people do to get their income. I’ve asterisked them because you and I sometimes know they are not our uncles but hey nothing is wrong with that once you can attach an affidavit and a written sponsor’s letter from them. For Canada embassy, you will need to show evidence that they are really your aunties, cousins etc. Either add documents to show what work they do and what income they earn or let them write a note explaining them. Remember, someone cannot sponsor you with 5,000,000 Naira a year when they earn 5,000,000 Naira or even 6,000,000 Naira. They have to earn at least 2x that amount especially if they are 3rd party sponsor or it won’t fly with the embassy. And do not go with a bank statement that have lots of loans, overdrafts or negative (debit) balances in them. That account is screaming “I’m not good” so dump it.

4. UNAUTHENTIC STATEMENTS-Last big issue-presenting a fake/forged or counterfeit bank statement. Some in the past have gone away with it doing that and some lucky ones still do but it is a serious investigative area for the embassies now. No offense to the South African and Chinese embassies but even they are refusing visa applications on the basis of fake bank statements. Why do you think Canadian embassy now have extended visa assessment periods? The main thing they do is to verify the documents presented and the bank statement checks is one of them. Once you are found to have forged a statement you might be banned for 5 years depending. Better take your time to run a genuine account than to let that agent deceive and mislead you into submitting fake Statement of Account. The embassy won’t call him to verify the account details. They call the head offices and he won’t be there to bail you out.

I HAD TO PUT UP THIS PIECE COS OF THE RECENT GCMS NOTES I SAW. I THINK THIS INSUFFICIENT FUNDS GROUND FOR REFUSAL IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE AVOIDED IF WE ALL THREAD CAREFULLY.

I submitted a statement of account with an opening balance of 5k and a huge closing balance, it is very possible. That account is used to collect rent from two commercial Plaza owned by my sponsor in owerri. They pay their rent biennialy (every 2yrs).lucky this year Feb they started paying their rents
Almost 45million was realized and we put it forward and categorically stating the source of income.
The Vo too has to understand that different strokes for different folks we all can't run our bank accounts in the same manner....

Good Afternoon,

By various messages dropped on here, I believe we all have agreed that purpose of visit as a refusal reason is not as damning as whatever other reason accompanies it.

Now your undergrad course and your current work experience are either of them related to your course that you applied for?

Then is that course a progression on the face of it t whatever it is you already have at hand?

With your undergrad and work experience it may be difficult to explain how it is a progression to your academic or professional pursuits. Except you have a carefully worded and detailed SOP that does that for you.

For me I'd advice you get a masters course that is either related to your undergrad course of study or if you have work experience in a bank, a course that is closely related and will give u an edge over others, carefully remembering to state why u chose that uni and why u have chosen the canada as a destination instead of studying here in Nigeria.( the last part about stating why, should be in your SOP. ALL the best

Bros, the VOs won't understand unless and until you explain the circumstances surrounding these deposits with documentary evidence. You cannot assume the VO would understand and if you did, that's a gamble.

Yes, those were put in but tagged as "source of income" that's the same thing as proving the source so I believe it's safe to say low opening balance won't be a problem if you can prove the source of the accumulated sum..... Because that's the difference to me any amount at all that the source can't be proven is lumpsum

I have recently received admission from the University of Alberta and I am begging my application very soon. I have a study gap of less than a year, I would appreciate some ideas on how to explain this. I was really focused on securing admission and getting a supervisor during this time and I'm frankly shocked at how the time has flow by...
you will have to tell the vo something, like helping ur mum or dad in their business while waiting for your admission to come out or any voluntary work in church or your community . vo MIGHT not accept it if you say you were doing nothing while waiting for your admission.
