KAA Gent sign two Nigerian youngsters

Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent have completed signing two Nigerians, Anthony Ikedi and Reuben Yem this week, supersport.com can report.

The two talented players hail from the famous Jos-based GBS Football Academy renowned for producing young gifted players and were hooked on three-year deals each by the Belgian club after their chief scout visited the academy in Nigeria recently.

Ikedi, who stands at 198cm and plays as a defensive midfielder, has already been sent out on loan to FK Haugesund while right-back Yem, who is described as a crafty tough and pacy utility player, will stay at the Ghelamco Arena as he has already received his work permit and is eligible for selection once he arrives in Gent in the summer.

FK Haugesund's Jostein Grindhaug who has watched Ikedi at the GBS academy, believes the 18-year-old has "very big potential" to become a big star which is one of the reasons the Norwegian club signed him on loan.

"Ikedi is a physically strong player, with good feet and has a very big potential that we look forward," Grindhaug said.

The Norwegian outfit were however quick to land their man on loan just before the March 31 deadline of their transfer window.

Ikedi will now wait to make his debut for Haugesund once a work permit is granted from the country's authorities.

While the NPFL top scorer is probably going to FC Krasnodar... Gent, who have a good chance of playing in the Champion League next year have signed two academy players... Why did Gent not look at the league for quality players, why did their scouts go to academies? This means that Reuben Yem could be playing champions league next year if he makes an impression.

All this one is just argument. Rohr had looked at both of them in camp and without game time, Nacho stood out. He was the fitter one. One of the most fit.

People are talking like if Kayode goes to City, he will bench Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

Joseph1013, I think we need to organise awards at the end of the year. Like: Most debated topic, Most controversial moniker(we know already who get that award), ati bee bee lo.

That is the difference. Most of you are just here arguing to win. That is why it took a foreigner to back my claims that Iheanacho was good.

What did we get next? An attack on the coach.

Please you can win what ever argument you want. I am not here to win. However, I wonder what you won.

Tired of this remark. If you have nothing to analyse, you do not need to comment. Anyone can write what you wrote up there.

Yes when the defender passed the ball right into Moses path for him to score that was Iheanacho. When their defence fell asleep and allowed Mikel to trap the ball in their box, make a phone call and score that was Iheanacho. Ofcos Iheanacho led Onazi to pass the ball to Musa who then found Moses. Yes the coach who never won anything in is life and is now fired was so right.

Being honest. Reading things like this is baffling.

Iheanacho's running made it uncomfortable for the defenders of Algeria. I mean, is this so difficult to understand? Ah Ah. It is so simple.

From your point, we should not listen to a coach like Mark Hughes when he makes a point because he has never won anything in his life. Wait, we should not listen to Gernot Rohr because he has never won anything in his life.

I do not need Rohr to win titles before I respect his training methods. I can read his words and see the brilliance in them. I can study reports of his training and know he is brilliant.

Unlike most of you, Leekens was precise on Iheanacho. If you guys want to run the man down for it, you are free to.

Ive been following this thread for a very long time and have decided to comment regarding this Nacho issue. I was having a discussion with my friend who was complaining about how limited Nacho is compared to his U17 days. I told him he had simply been turned into a poacher by city. Another thing which he said that really caught my attention was how heavy legged Nacho looks at times. Contrary to what I've been reading on here, Nacho isn't mobile. He can't dribble, he has a poor first touch. I honestly hope he doesn't fizzle out because I've honestly not seen anything that makes me think he will be among the best players in the world.
I'm starting to get worried with our the 2013 U17 set. I know it's too early to tell, but their rate of development is not going that well.

I have been doing this for years. Identifying talents, watching them grow and some fail. From the days of Thierry Henry and Trezeguet. From Kanu Nwankwo to Wilson Oruma.

Wondered why Diego Forlan became a legend while Christian Timm and Takahara fell on the way side.

In all these, two things mattered belief and hard work.

It is easy to support someone when things are going well. Just as many celebrated Nacho scoring goals and setting records at City. When things are not going so well, the same people try to turn against the person.

That is why the same people who celebrated Stephen Keshi turned around to bash him during his challenge. The same ones calling Amunike brilliant ridiculed him.

The ones chanting Mikel's name in 2005 turned around to call him slowbi.

Diego Forlan in Manchester United looked a flop but later it clicked and he shone like a million stars. Lukaku who looked a flop at Chelsea today is one of the World's most wanted strikers.

So my advice to Iwobi and Iheanacho is to hold on to what I am sure works. Believe in their talents, work very hard when ever they touch the training pitches for club and country and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

As long as these guys maintain these, they will get back to the top of the game. Keep learning and keep getting better.

Mikel lost his place in the team at Chelsea many times. There were times he lost his place in the Super Eagles too. Many criticised and said he had lost it but through his determination and perseverance, he soared like a Super Eagle.

Whether playing time or not, I want the young Eagles, from Iwobi to Iheanacho to the likes of Chidera Ezeh, Chidi Nwakali, Ifeanyi Matthew, Odey, Osimhen, Orji Okonkwo, Nura, Oshaniwa, Sadiq Umar, Nwobodo and many others to keep giving one hundred percent on the training pitch.

That is the most important thing. That is the way to let the coaches know you deserve a chance to start and that is the way to stay at the top of the game.

That was why when people laughed at Mikel and thought his career was over, when he got his run of games he excelled.

Wish you all the best.

bros that is your believe, me i believe he has what it takes to be world class.
Dribbling is not what that make you world class.
Musa yahaya with his great dribblig skills is behind nacho in times of development
treore of chelsea on loan at ajax, when he was at chelsea he was limited but at ajax you can see his crazy skills so i think if nacho move away from man city you will see his skills
And lastly goals are the first thing to consider when looking for world class strikers before other abilities and he has it in his locker
finally in sir Icon4s voice he is not there yet for world class tag but is geting there soon, and he is more than ripe for super eagles

Wawu, should I call it low self esteem or the African mentality that any white man is always better than a black man??

See everyone has his or her own sentiments and bias and this does not exclude Rhor, we know his bias towards Germany and Holland in securing talents for Nigeria, so it's not exclusively limited to our indigenous coaches, he is also being sentimental about our local talents, he doesn't believe the ones we have cannot compete with the ones abroad forgetting that the ones abroad once played in Nigeria before moving out.

if the late Keshi was in charge and he had those three I bet he would v done great things with the SE this man won the AfCon with relatively unknown players , the same with Amodu, always qualifying the SE for AfCon n world cup from poor positions.

The only thing that hampered these great coaches was the interference of from the former NFF board who were also not looking at foreign born players, I won't make a case for Siasia and Oliseh sha

There are limited opportunities for error.

Since when? I never saw that one. Gent offered trials to both Odey and Sikuru, would u send ur player on trial when u have a deal on the table? That would be bad business. These teams are looking for cheap buys and we are not going that rout in the NPFL by the grace of God. #Nomoretrials.

This is the report where Odey was offered to Genk:

http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/03/29/exclusive-npfl-hotshot-stephen-odey-offered-to-belgian-side-genk/

They then offered him a trial. He was also offered to Valencia.

In the other case, scouts from Gent, came to Nigeria to observe academy talents and sign them.

The top scorer in the league should not be the one offering himself up and down. Scouts should be jumping over themselves to secure him. That is where the marketability of the NPFL fails. Instead, they are going to look for talents in Academies.

I was just laughing when Leekens was being run down. I mean we are talking of a man who is a coach and was considered good enough to handle Algeria.

He is sacked... and so what? wasn't Ranieri sacked? Haven't Mourinho been sacked? Haven't Ancelotti been sacked? sacking is part of the field of coaching....

Sir GoodJoe.... abeg don't mind the remarks. As long as it has to do with making Iheanacho looks bad... Anything goes... smiley

Even an attack on coaches is allowed here without anyone calling for order because most feel they know more than the coaches. People that haven't been to coaching school at the highest level running down others who knows what they are talking about.

You know I just smile at these things and say..... "Most people will say anything just to win an argument... even if it means attacking a man in a field that they themselves have no authority in".

Anyway.... that is their way. And I thank God, Rohr don't have such on his coaching crew.

Do you see why there are no margins for errors? Kayode is already in the team now... he will get his chances but don't forget that he just made his debut against Senegal.
