But you'd need formal education if you want to become a lawyer, doctor, engineer, nurse or a pilot.
you need to be interested before you want to do any of that, and you need to be talented as well.

Everybody wanted to be one of those at some point, but how many people went on to practice them? There are many people with a certificate in those fields who don't use them, so, how the education come help them?

If football can stop wars, why can't it help us educate our children? We should not just sit down and allow children to go without basic education. Yea guys will drop out but at least they would have been given a chance and can decide for themselves.
you can educate a child without sending them to school. Are you aware of that?

Wow u can't say that. There are players with masters and PHD's.
I figured it was something personal that was making u so rigid about this. Look just because ur dad forced u out of football to face ur books does not mean u should endorse the extreme.

oya name the players with the Masters and PHD.
I mean those currently playing.

Which kind of talk is this? When should they learn how to manage their time, when they are old men. Boss I am a young man and I can still relate to teenagers.
U don't always go against the grain. I remember u making these same type of fuss about the 3-4-3 and months later even ur club has used it. U don't always have to be right, in fact we can't always be right.

You do not put teenagers on a 24hrs routine. May be just for about 2-3 days. After that they will revolt. Understand this now and thank me later.

And as to that 3-4-3 formation did I ever say no team should adopt it. I was only saying it is not typically suitable for a team like Nigeria. It was specific to Nigeria. I mentioned that clubs find it easier bc they spend more time together and there is enough room for post error adjustments.

You remember that?

Seyi Olofinjana was my senior in the university and our skippo, I think he studied chemical engineering and has bagged his masters before calling it quit with football to become an agent.

I think Darren Fletcher combined school with football when he was at united, i'm not typing this to justify bascovanveli because I don't think I agree with his school of thought to restrict talents for the sake of certificates but there are exceptions because you may not know what the future holds for an uneducated/half educated player. I couldn't combine football with academics that was why I left football when the sport was sucking my Cgpa, I was then planning on playing for julius Berger or Crown fc before I took a decision to quit football because it's not easy combining them

Seyi Olofinjana finished from Lautech. B. Tech Chemical Engineering. Even if he bagged a masters degree it would have been when he was less active in the later part of his career.

As u rightly said it is very difficult to combine professional football and academics. My father told me so decades back I later found out he was right.

But I want Bascovanveli to list current players who have masters And PHD as he said.

You don't learn life hacks in the four walls of a classroom! In fact, most useful education occurs outside the four walls!

Education isn't physics, maths or economics and you don't need to have formal education to be able to manage your finances. All you need is to know your limitations and find experts who can help you and this comes from exposure.

I have heard people talk about US , UK with reference to education and I wonder if they really know what they are talking about. A cursory look at the education budget in these countries or the ratio of international students to home grown students will make the truth clearer.

I will give you a personal anecdote: I worked for 4 years as an analyst in an investment bank before leaving the UK and I found one curious thing: The heads of my trading team didn't see the four walls of a university! they started their careers as boys who were passing trading punch cards in the exchange, mastered it and they are top investment bankers today. In the grand scheme of things, classroom education didnt help them, rather they found their passion, reinvented themselves and they are where they are today.

I make bold to say that what makes these societies tick is specialization. People developing skills relevant to their passion. Why should a Jay Jay Okocha worry about not mastering mathematics when he could devote more time in honing his dribbling skills? Does that mean you can cheat him in business? Certainly not! Why? business skills are not taught in the classroom.

The earlier we do away with our worship of "formal education" in our country, the better for us. Education doesn't begin and end in the classroom, shikena! Advanced countries realize this and they are rewarded for it!

The earlier we helped children identify their passion and support them, the better.

Yes. Many parents/guardians stopped their boys from playing football.

There were these two other boys that played for a local club in my area then called Hungary Lions by names Duru and Atine. Emma Amuneke was in that team. These two boys play pass Amuneke.

Who amongst us here grew up in Ajegunle, Orile, Amukoko and environs in the 1980s you'll know those boys. They suffered similar fate as I did: Parental influence. Not to ridicule him but Emma Amuneke no sabi book so his parents just allow am focus for ball.

You could not have forced someone like Emma to read book. You just dey waste your time.

I do, even ma dad too doesn't alone ma senior bro,
even wen we are playing in street, he won't ahave it,

I remember particularly wen I got injury while playing in signal barracks. Mile two, ,
dat was the last I play ,

but you cnt blame some parents, cos football then is not paying like crazy, and its always a pride for Dem to educate their wards

Oga it is almost sunday o. I remember it was after west ham and chelsea u were making mouth that the 3-4-3 would never work. U told me to go play it in a video game. Now ur own club is using the very system u said could never work.
I said they are 24 hours in a day and so the child will always find time for school and football.
My question to u is if u find out ur child has talent at say 11, will u allow that child to stop going to school?

I don't get you
I have watched over 70% of Chelsea's match this season in fact part of the reason why fabregas often does not get start is because of matic defensive qualities
matic has not played anything this season forget the goal he scored the last time...against Sutton ndidi will score 5 of that being that Chelsea create a lot of chances...

I tell you ndidi can offer more upfront and as well cover up side by side with kante...
Ndidi will compete against Kante, not Matic. Matic is a better passer than Ndidi.

same matic I watch play weekly....
abeg don't make me laugh .though he has improved a little
he is someone in Chelsea that can be replaced
kante is indispensable in that line up

Am of the opinion that football should go hand in hand with education. When I say education, I mean atleast senior high school.
The elite academies in the world have entrenched in their modus operandi education and football mixed together.

Here is an except of the famed Barcelona mestalla operation ;

The students wake up early at 6:45 to shower and brush their teeth just in time for breakfast at 7:00. The school bus pick-up is then at 7:30. Unknown to many, a large amount of their time is spent studying. School is from around 8:00 to 14:00. It’s then lunch and free time until around 16:00. Then there’s added schooling and training, times differ depending on the age group, but training tends not to be any longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes. It’s then time for another shower and a coach journey back to La Masia. Dinner is at around 21:00 which is followed by TV/Internet until 22:45. The students brush their teeth and go to bed at 23:00 in order to rest sufficiently enough to repeat the process the following day.

"Scouted from across Spain, the young players who live at La Masia play surprisingly little football - just over one and a half hours per day. "Instead, there is a heightened emphasis on school work, with players expected to attend extra classes with tutors at La Masia once they return to the centre after a day at school. This way, the students who do not make it into professional football can opt for university or find employment ."

"Not all the chosen ones will make it to the top, of course. Which is why dealing with failure is one of the academy's key areas of focus. The kids need to have a "Plan B," as Folguera puts it. The club's values code impresses the importance of patience, humility and hard work upon its pupils - and these are values the parents of the aspiring players also have to take on board. They need to be clear in their own minds; if you've given everything you can to attain your goals, there is no shame in failing to reach them."

The gospel truth is that when kids are starting out you never can tell how far they could go in professional sports. Kids need a good education foundation so they have a fall back option if it all goes South. A tiny % of kids admitted into academies actually make it to the professional level.
Nothing is guaranteed in football or any professional sports. If world class academies adopt this strategy, who are we to disagree with them since the results are starring us in the face.

This is where the problem is.

You think paper certificates are the only channels to success in life.

Besides, even if one at the age of 40 wants to obtain O/Level Certificates u do not need to attend secondary school. There is an exam called GCE naaaa. There is even GCE WAEC and GCE NECO now. There is no age limit for education my brother.

The more atrocious act is to deny that boy that chance to become a professional footballer because he cannot pass his academic tests.

it isn't the only the only channel, but it definitely is the most guaranteed channel. come on if you didn't go to school and went into football would you become a football writer like you did? No matter how dull a kid is he can scale through secondary school at least! foreign academies have school teachers too, you don't just learn how to play football, you also learn how to live, write and behave. you are talking about being dull, ok a lad who can't even speak English, maybe he gets transferred to a Spanish team, mind you he can't even understand English well, don't you know that teaching him Spanish would be impossible?

Again, I have to ask, didn't Jupp Hyneckes go unbeaten in his last season with Bayern? I thought he did but I might be wrong.

Maybe Guardiola isn’t an outright success at Bayern Munich. But you have to look to Europe to make that case. Because in Germany, Guardiola has no equal. Count the trophies. Add up the goals. Look at the way they play. Even look at the rest of the league, defeated from Day 1. Guardiola is the best the Bundesliga has ever seen.
