If u are not against it then let all children go to school. Not just your children and the ones u truly care about, every single child.

Who is saying all children should not go to school?

A child that is not doing well academically should not be stopped from playing football. Does that imply not letting all or some children go to school?

I am also of the opinion that if a player like Victor Osimhen is to be invited on the bases of his young promising talent, it shouldn't be at the detriment of chances for Paul, Kayode and Adi.

Victor Osimhen still has several years ahead of him. He can be invited to train but not to take up the chances of lads who have impressive stats.
I agree with you. Oshimhen does not merit the invite, let's call a spade a spade.
Calling up a guy who have just suited up once in the entire season ahead of seasoned pros setting their leagues on fire is not meritorious at all.
I wonder what stats Rohr have to justify his inclusion.

Besides are we not talking about football academies here?

You want to spend all the time teaching an "Olodo" book. What time will he spend on developing his football skills?

I still don't get the argument against school football. I would rather talk about ways we could make our school system better. The worst part is that i know that most of the people against this have a high level of education. But what make me angry is that people feel a good player can never be good in the classroom also and that is BS.

Honestly u won't have heard a word from me if Rohr didn't pick Odey.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr looks to NPFL

1:03 AM PT
Colin Udoh, KweséESPN

On Monday, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr named his squad for a training program in Corsica and Paris next month. Rohr's squad composition is interesting as much for those who are on it, as it is for the players who are not.

To start with, the German has seemingly bowed to pressure and picked four players from the domestic league, with two from title challengers MFM FC.

Stephen Odey is the league top scorer with 14 goals so far, and his exploits have seen the media launch a full on campaign to have him in the national team.

That clamour cooled somewhat when the player controversially decided to go off to Denmark on trials -- without the knowledge of his club. But Rohr appears to have ignored all of that and called up the forward along with teammate Sikiru Olatunbosun, he of the CNN Goal of the Week fame.

Joining them is Akwa United's impressive attacking midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim, whose goals and all round play have been phenomenal in hurling his side from the depths of relegation to challenging for a continental place.

While there is room for more players from the domestic league, Rohr has done well in picking four of the league's best players. It is now up to them to prove they deserve to be there.

The easiest of those tasks rests with goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa. In the absence of the injured Carl Ikeme, the FC Ifeanyi Ubah keeper has just youngster Dele Alampasu to contend with. But both will have to show good form to keep out Daniel Akpeyi. Rohr has again left out his China-based players. Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye will not be required for the Corsica friendly. Neither is Ogenyi Onazi. But expect at least two of those to return to face South Africa later in June.

Instead, he has recalled some of the players who did not get a chance to be tested the last time out, after the second friendly game in England was called off.

The likes of Tyronne Ebuehi, Noah Bazee, Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina will all get a chance to stake a claim for a spot, along with Chidozie Awaziem, Isaac Success and Olanrewaju Kayode.

The Corsica friendly should be indicative of which new players do enough to force their way into the team and on the field against South Africa later in June.

CAF Exco Meeting: Three key takeouts

8:31 AM PT
Colin Udoh, KweséESPN

Nearly four months after the seismic CAF elections in Ethiopia, Ahmad Ahmad's new administration, which had been idling on the runway, is finally taking off.

On Monday, crucial appointments were made into the executive committee in addition to the key leadership positions at committee level.

Most of these positions were already decided on the night of the election victory, following a marathon meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, and these appointments were formalised in Manana, Bahrain on the eve of the 67th FIFA Congress.

What are the key consequences of Ahmad's new appointments, and what did Monday's congress teach us about the broader visions of CAF's new regime?

NEW POWER-BROKERS UNVEILED

There is little secret as to who the movers and drivers of Ahmad's campaign were. Amaju Pinnick of Nigeria and Philip Chiyangwa of Zimbabwe were the public and aggressive faces respectively.

South Africa's Danny Jordaan worked hand in glove with Chiyangwa to deliver a unanimous COSAFA vote which galvanised many of the rest on the continent, while Ghana's Kwesi Nyantakyi was a silent force, whipping up support especially on the west African axis, along with Sierra Leone's Isha Johansen, a close ally of Pinnick.

Congo's Constant Omari, a long-time force on the Issa Hayatou camp, flipped places to join the Ahmad train, and brought significant votes along with him. All have been rewarded with plum positions.

Nyantakyi is now first vice-president of CAF and Omari is second vice-president. Pinnick, a member of FIFA's powerful Organising Committee, angled for and got the chairmanship of the Nations Cup Organising Committee in addition to heading the Media Committee.

Chiyangwa, who is not a member of the CAF Exco, is vice-chairman.

Jordaan headed the 2010 World Cup Organising Committee but saw himself frozen out by the previous administration. He now heads up the Marketing and TV Committee, as well as being vice-chairman of the Club Licensing Committee.

Johansen was appointed chairperson of the Women's Football Committee and vice-chair of the FairPlay and CAF Social Responsibilities Committee.

These appointments are a clear indication of where the power now lies in African football administration.

KALUSHA APPOINTMENT DEMONSTRATES RAPPROCHEMENT

One of the surprise appointments on Monday was that of former Zambia FA president Kalusha Bwalya. The African football legend was one of the not-so-few who remained loyal to Hayatou till the end, but has now been rewarded with an appointment as chairman of the Technical and Development Committee.

As an olive branch, this could represent a sign that Ahmad's regime will not be vindictive, but will leave the doors open to former foes to become allies, and could prove to be one of the most powerful actions taken by the new president and his administration.

ZUL SHOWS OUTSIDERS CAN PUNCH WITH THE INSIDERS

If Kalusha's appointment proved that reconciliation was possible, another event showed that the handshake only goes so far. At the CAF Congress, Cameroon's Zelkifli Ngoufonja, a former FIFA Development Officer who was a loyal Hayatou supporter, decided to run for a position on the FIFA Council.

His chances, depending mostly on a wing and prayer, were no match for Egypt's Hany Abo, who swept to victory on a 50-4 voting margin.

Initially different, seemingly underhand tactics were employed to try to keep his candidacy out of the ballot but he persisted, and while he had no realistic hopes of winning against Abo, who had the considerable might of the Egypt government behind him, to score even those four votes were a significant victory for the man known as Prince Zul.

What he has done is set a marker that even outsiders in Africa can now attempt shots at the highest seats in football.

It is as much a win for Zul as it is for Ahmad and his new, open and inclusive administration.

” The camp in France is to see some of the young players we have in the team, and also gauge the level of fitness of some of the players who have not been playing a lot for their team.

” After the friendly against Corsica, we will release another list which will be for the game against South Africa in Uyo, with some players returning while those who impress during the camp in France will also be included “.

forget all this talk where i live in northern nigeria, i have attainted about 6 different schools before i wrote my ssce. There are some students that no matter how you try, they will still not get it.

In nigeria some students due to poverty others due drugs will not study

bottomline: a child should not be sent away because he couldn't catch up in class or did not go school RATHER lets encourage him to go to school

I know a school teacher in England that was failing in Nigeria he was what you call an "Olodo" he had dyslexia and he was considered a no hopper a NFA a forward player for Dundee United.

Today he runs the most successful education center in the whole of the North West of England. His students regularly win academic accolades, and he has taken on a lot of the so called Olodo's and made them into A star students from year 1 to A/levels he has exceeded all expectations.

So I am forced to disagree with you as my first hand experience tells me something very different. By the way I am not a teacher.

I have just put my sister's son who was failing very badly in the USA. He is now progressing on account of this school. It is not cheap but it's great value for your money.

Moroccan club WAC reject transfer request by Chikatara

Wydad Athletics Club of Casablanca have rejected a transfer request from Nigeria striker Chisom Chikatara, his representatives have informed SCORENigeria

Former Abia Warriors star Chikatara joined top Moroccan club WAC on a transfer fee of $450,000 last year.

However, the departure of Welsh coach John Toschack and injury meant the CHAN Eagles did not enjoy enough playing time for the Moroccan club.

Chikatara has since returned to full fitness, but he still does not get much of a look-in at the club.

“We have had a transfer request for Chikatara to quit WAC, but they turned it down,” the striker’s representative Johnny Precious Ogbah told SCORENigeria

“There are still a lot of interests in the player, who needs to be playing regularly to move to the next level of his career.”

Chikatara was the shining light for Nigeria at the 2016 CHAN in Rwanda, where he scored a memorable hat-trick against Niger in a group game.

Non-league SamDaddy FC clinch Imo State FA Cup after upsetting Heartland

Non-league SamDaddy FC from Amaimo in Ikeduru local government and financed by Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu aka SamDaddy caused one of the biggest shock results in the State FA Cup finals when they won the Imo State cup competition at the expense of NNL side Heartland.

Both teams were tied at 1-1 after regulation time before the giant killers SamDaddy kept their nerves to clinch the prestigious FA Cup 4-3 on penalties.

Both teams will represent Imo State in the national draw of the cup competition.

It’s a fairy tale story for SamDaddy as they were only formed in December and this is their first outing in the FA Cup.

They are handled by former Dolphins and Sharks coach George Onyenekwe (coach Bahardor) with Collins Akujobi as team secretary.

SamDaddy FC are an initiative by Senator Anyanwu, who is representing Imo East, to empower teeming youths in the state and beyond.

He plans a professionally run academy in the local government soon.

At the moment we have only 2 players.

1. Moses
2. Ndidi

All the others are either warming the bench or coming to the stadium for sight seeing on match days.

Iheanacho, Iwobi, echejiele, musa, success, onazi, omeruo, ekong (chronic bench warmers, suffered loss of form, match rusty)

Mikel, Ikeme (injury)

Leon balogun (battling relegation)

Osimen (untested)

Hopefully Rorh;s extended camping should shake the rust off most of them. Otherwise, we are far from being world beaters or making it past the 2nd round at the world cup next year.

Yes you are very correct. That is how it is but that does not take away the potency of that team.

A good number of the players are emerging professionally which is why they are not getting plenty of game time.

Even with this state our team is not a push over. Go ask Senegal with all their heavy weight players.

I would take Onazi and Omuero out of that list but u do raise a valid issue. I do believe that Rohr is working behind the scenes to make sure they get into clubs that will give them playing time. We just hope that they get it right next season because we almost can't turn back from here.

Stephen Odey returns to MFM, apologizes for botched Euro trials

MFM FC striker Stephen Odey has apologised to his club after his controversial trip to Danish club Midtjylland this past week, according to coach Fidelis Ilechukwu.

NPFL leading scorer with 14 goals, Odey has returned to Nigeria after undergoing trials with Midtjylland, who have allegedly said they will not offer him a contract due to age discrepancies.

“He is small boy, he has made a mistake and he has returned and has apologised to the management,” Ilechukwu said.

“As a manager, I manage success and I manage crisis and so at this point in time, I have to carry him along as my son.”

royal gems fabrics and seams+unisex+bespoke+tailoring+African+attires+uyo+native

The MFM coach maintained Odey was deceived to try out in Denmark, but it will be the decision of the club if he were now to be sanctioned.

“Eighty percent of the mistake was not from Stephen Odey, he was deceived,” the coach defended the young striker.

“The most important thing is to make this boy understand he is a top player and he does not need to go on trials because it’s an insult to our league.

“I hope by now he has realised his mistake.”

He added: “It will be the decision of the management if the player will be sanctioned, but to me as a father, he’s a child you cannot throw away because of his mistake. We are not perfect and we can correct our errors.

“He’s also an important player to the team, but whatever the decision of the club, we will find a way around it. But no player is indispensable because we signed 13 strikers. So, in his absence, some other players can fill the gap.”

Ilechukwu also narrated an interesting story of how the youngster now valued at $1 million by MFM FC was initially rejected by the small club as “a small boy”.

“When I first brought Stephen Odey (to MFM), he was rejected. They said he is a small boy, you can’t bring this boy here, we don’t need him,” the coach recounted.

“When I brought him, I was hiding him inside my camp because the management said we don’t need this boy because he is a small boy. I hid him inside the camp when there was management meeting because I didn’t want them to know he’s around the team.

“I brought him up and now people are claiming him, that’s unfair.”

Friday Ekpo: Odey, Olatunbosun, Alhassan Must Seize Super Eagles Chance

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has urged MFM FC’s Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun as well as Akwa United’s Alhassan Ibrahim not to get carried away following their invitation to the Super Eagles camp, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

On Monday Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr released a 25-man squad for a planned camping programme in France and the friendly match against a Corsica team later in May.

Odey, Olatubosun, Ibrahim and Ikechukwu Ezenwa of IfeanyiUbah are the four home-based players listed by Rohr for the camping.

Odey is currently the Nigeria Professional Football League’s top scorer with 14 goals, while Ibrahim has 10 goals.

Other players invited are regulars like Leon Balogun, Kelechi Iheanacho, Elderson Echiejile, Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, William Troost-Ekong and Moses Simon.

Chelsea’s Ola Aina, Wolfsburg’s Victor Osimhen and Vitoria Setubal’s Mikel Agu were also included in the list.

Reacting to the invitation of Odey, Olatunbosun and Ibrahim, Ekpo advised the players to seize the opportunity in order to stand a chance of getting invited in future.

“They should not allow their invitation into the Super Eagles get into their heads and make them lose concentration, rather the invitation should spur them to do more so that they don’t get dropped after first call up,” former Nigeria midfielder Ekpo told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“They should remain obedient even to their club coaches and also to their teammates in their various clubs so that they will be able to gain more.”

Ekpo, who was a member of the Super Eagles squad that won bronze at the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal, hailed the Eagles coaching crew for inviting the home-based players.

He said: “It is a welcome development but I think the coach should have invited more than four because talking about continuity in the national team, we have to start building and have replacements from now.

“So like I said it is a welcome development for Nigerian league players.”

You do know that if you are failing in a Missionary school in Nigeria, you will excel in a Government school 70% of the time.

The education levels vary here, I speak from experience. So, you need to be more specific sometimes.

And the method matters as well, a lo of people are unaware of the types of education, they can't see past that one style they know.

Should West Ham try for out of favour Manchester City striker?

by Scott Johnson 3 days agoFollow @greensthammers

West Ham have a striker problem. That much is clear. Could young Kelechi Iheanacho be the answer to the club’s issues up front?

Another summer is approaching, and West Ham once again need a striker. If the club are to address the continued issues with the strikeforce, they need to act fast. Could Manchester City’s Iheanacho be a target?

He’s been out of favour under Guardiola, and with the City boss likely to strengthen in the summer it would make sense for the Hammers to offer first team football. But they will certainly ace stiff competition for the Nigerian international.
Move fast and decisively

If the young striker is available, it will not be an easy capture for the Hammers. There will be many teams after the prolific youngster and it is already rumoured that he has been approached by top teams in foreign leagues such as Hoffenheim.

As such, the board should move quickly. The plus of moving to a side like the Hammers is that they would be able to offer first team football. There is also the proof of allowing talented youngsters in, such as Lanzini, and if the manager can show him the vision going forward of what the club could be when they begin to move up the league then the talented youngster could be convinced.

It would certainly be a far cry from his current Manchester City stay, where he is barely used. It is no surprise given the talent they have, but the youngster has shown his talent when possible. His goal per game record is pretty impressive for someone of his age, with 10 goals or assists in just under 900 minutes of game time this season.

Signing him might prove impossible, but the board would be mistaken to ignore the chance. Players like this don’t come along too often at all. Even if he were to stay at the club for a few years, the return on investment would be worth it. It”s definitely worth the board’s consideration heading into the summer.

Back to the matter at hand, as commendable as it is that Rohr invited the home-based guys, is there any chance they will actually get to play?

It's one thing to get an invite, it's another to actually play

Play wetin? Who dem wan bench? The likes of ikechukwu ezenwa r still yearning for playing time. They're included to the team just to appease the cabals around the NFF

It is not cheap but it's great value for your money.
that is like one in a million do you know how many olodos who where force to study that didn't make it? And if these olodos where left to persuit their talents e.g football, music, handwork e.t.c would have been a different story

with the education in nigeria you still end up jobless

Come to my area and see graduate in farms everyday suffering and those who persuit their handwork are leaving comfortable
