Exactly my thoughts.. So long as The FG isn't sponsoring it, anything they choose to do is their business.. Cameroon, uganda, Benin with a christain majority population are participating. When it comes to Naija, everything is politics

it still sends the wrong message and perception is important. What is Nigeria as a country doing in a strictly religious organisation? it sends the wrong signal that the country is Islamic when it's not.

According to the report above, the competition is made for Islamic countries only, and participation of Nigeria makes it an Islamic country...
OLAJADON:
Nigeria is a secular state where we have both Muslims and Christians, Now CAN is writing federal government to stop Nigeria from participating in a sport because the organisers are Muslims but there is nothing bad if we participate in any sport organised by Christians or atheist.
my question is how does individual either christian or Buddhist participating in a general sport organised by Muslims affect the individual religion.
this is pure hate of Islam with no logical reason.

Buhari is a terrorist like every other Muslims... Their Islamic agenda will not succeed.
You guys are more horrific than the religion fanatics reason why Nairaland mod have device a mode of declaring once faith before commenting on Muslims section because you hardly see Muslims commenting on Christian posts but you guys incessantly constitute nuisance on their posts. But the irony of this is that you are as meek as pussy cat organically, but claim to be gangster behind your keyboard. Bloody hypocrite, how can you type something like this when you are equally guilty of the same allegation. My two cents advice is travel to Kano with a mega phone in you hand and say the same thing you type here in Hausa.

There's nothing wrong with Nigeria participating at the Islamic games as long as the government is not sponsoring it. If the government is sponsoring it then that would be a real shame.
Then I ask you this simple question, who is sponsoring the participants, who are they representing. Very simple!!!

Bros, there is everything wrong. By participating, we are telling the rest of the world that Nigeria is an Islamic country and other countries will take it like that. Nigeria is a secular country with no official religion unlike the mid east countries. We shouldn't have anything to do with it except they are going to adopt any other name other than Nigeria.

Salym:
The link provided showed countries with lesser muslim population like Uganda, Cameroun, Benin Republic, and Togo participating. Then I wonder why can would make an issue out of this.

It doesn't show Nigeria is a Muslim country

Lets ask questions

Why does our Naira notes all have Arabic on them?

Why does our Army and other millitary parasatals have arabic on their unifrom and logo?

Why is our National assembly building and all other buildings shaped as a mosque?

Why is our Flag having green as a basic colour just as all other islamic countries, is it because it is on record in Islam that Green is Mohammeds best colour? look at saudi arabias flag, pakistan, morocco, libya etc

I am not a fanatic but I want a secular Nigeria not a Islam Country.

Read the history of Turkey and Iran.. you would shake for our country.

I think you are asking these questions to obtain realistic answers and not to point out that those Arabic inscriptions were proves that the country has been islamised.
The reason why you see those Arabic inscriptions is because, they are there to interprete basic objectives to the understanding of the average illiterate northerner who never had western education but Islamic education, and not in anyway to islamise the nation.
If you stay in the North you will understand properly Properly what i am talking about.
If you write 1,4,7 or ABC the average illerate northerner don't know what you write. But put it in Arabic they will understand

I'll repeat it again, so long as the FG is not funding it, any religious body can attend whatever they choose to attend.
Are u saying when we have world christian conventions and they call for participants from Nigeria, it becomes a big deal because we are a secular nation.. Or let's say hypothetically, a world christian organization decides to organize a sport festival for Christians, and Nigeria participates, should it be a big deal??

Bigots all over the place. You guys protesting as well as CAN should google the countries participating, Cameroun, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Uganda, Cote D'ivoire, Sierra Leone etc. Also,non-muslims participate in the tournament, so where did you guys see "Strictly for Muslim Countries"? Our bigotry and ethnicity and hatred is killing us. All these mofos shouting up and down here, if Saudi Petroleum or Dubai or Malaysian Govt should offer them a mouth watering job now now dem go pack themselves and family go there sharp sharp, you will not hear anything "Islam" but now they are here talking nonsense. Keep kwayetiii make i hear word abeg.

so who is funding them? if it's the Nigerian Islamic council....that's fine but they are not representing Nigeria they are representing themselves or the Sharia states not the whole country.

In any case, same applies for any christian conventions or whatever...... participants attend in there own capacity, not representing the whole country because Nigeria isn't a christian state. it's pretty simple, the country is secular meaning religious neutrality and that's the way it should be

with ur own view Nigeria should not participate in any sport because is organized in Christian country.

I will believe you didn't properly understand my comment but then have you ever seen any sporting event that is for only Christians nations?
the fact is this once that religious embargo is placed on a sport and countries are being invited base of the general accepted countries religion, the Nigeria is not allowed to participate. but if same event is organised and is made open for countries without a putting any religious embargo on it, then Nigeria can go. after all we participate in other sporting event and nobody talks about it. but the sport being talked about is primarily open to ONLY Islamic countries and Nigeria is not an Islamic country sir. Be guided

Nigeria is willing to concede to Islamic organisations and legalises the barbaric and low-intellect practices of Shariah Law in the Northern States because they bend over backwards for the demands of moronic muslim nutjobs who force 10 year-old girls to marry 50 year-old abusive retarded pedophiles, and then wonder why groups like Boko Haram thrive so much.

Acceptance of anything more than soft Islam is a blow against secularism and modernity and shows government incompetence and backwardness. Naija should be pushing against this barbarism, not letting it corrupt the country.

Don't be accepting of Islamic values - they are not accepting of you.

This is a cover up plot to radicalize more Nigerians and update them on the latest acts of terrorism. It is also a recruiting ground for ISIS, BOKO HARAM, AL QAEDA, AL SHABAB etc. Imagine a world without islamic terrorists and extremists. It will be an Eldorado.

I'm very sure that if it was a program organised by a christian organisation, strictly for the non islamic countries and Nigeria participated in it, if muslims should complain about it just like you all are complaining now, you will all still defend your religion. This is the difference between Muslims and every other religious groups. No other groups act in this belligerent manner.

Even if Sharia and Islam is mentioned a million times it doesn't change the fact that Nigeria is a secular state. We will break this nation first before that section is amended. Until then OIC and Islamic sports federation should park well. CAN is on point

If Nigeria became a muslim majority country then you can bet Shariah will become state law and non-muslims and apostates will be gagged, silenced or murdered. JUST LOOK AT INDONESIA, the most "free" and "open" of the muslim nations, where the most popular presidential candidate Ahok, a CHRISTIAN, was bullied out of running for president by violent islamist thugs and then subsequently ARRESTED FOR "BLASPHEMY AGAINST ISLAM" by the conservative MUSLIM government.

Be THANKFUL the nation is not majority muslim. Abeg go look at Iran and Afghanistan and Iraq and Indonesia, etc. Where non-muslims and people who were against the Muslim regime were MASS MURDERED (Look up Indonesia Massacres 1965-1966 as just one example) for speaking out against them! Even now Saudi Arabia is funding billions of dollars into Madrasas (Islamic Schools) in poor countries to turn children and the desperate into TERRORISTS for the islamic cause. In other countries it's too late, in Nigeria there is still hope, and it is NOT through parley!

You want to live in a world where saying that the prophet Muhammad is a murderer rapist (which he is) could get you in jail or even executed?

The CAN said Nigeria is a secular state, how does the participation makes Nigeria a non secular state. Also the association is free for country to participate why can't the Vatican and Christian also organise a game to bring them together. the answer is obvious for of us to see. CAN is promoting hatred and religious violence in the country.

The Vatican and "Christian" do not organise "Christian games" because there are zero Christian theocracies in the modern era. Almost every single Muslim nation has some sections of Islamic law and persecution of followers of other religions or the non-religious. Even Turkey is falling under Erdogan and his information-controlling Islamist party.

Participation shows that Nigeria falls under the veil of a "Muslim nation". A "Muslim nation" is a nation that is anti-secularism, anti-progress, and Islam-first, something that should NEVER describe Nigeria. This whole event is pathetic political maneuvering by muslim leaders to pull rising African nations into their religion.

Hatred and religious violence? You mean like Boko Haram? grin

Yes you are right Muslims in Nigeria can participate in any religious sports but they are not representing the whole Nigeria because Nigeria is a secular state and there is no official state religion for the country. Nigeria is a secular state with a multi religious population. Nigeria is not an Islamic nation. The title of Nigeria is the Federal Republic of Nigeria not the Islamic Republic of Nigeria, Like you have in Pakistan and other religious countries like Egypt. Nigeria is a secular country not an islamic country.
I get your point of view but if Muslims in Nigeria participate does it change the federal republic of Nigeria to Islamic republic of Nigeria.
like you said Nigeria is. country where we have different religion, Mr A must be able to practice his religion without disturbing Mr B likewise Mr B to Mr A. there should be freedom of religion not one religion claim superior to the other like I said before because Christians don't have circular sport does it means Muslims should not participate in Islamic circular sport.
with these, you should be able to get my view when I said this is just pure hatred of Islam.
