The reason for Biafran agitation was reasonable and the people were resolute but Ojukwu didn't trust his comrades or soldiers hence the release of ammo in piecemeal( the Nigerian civil War and the Biafran Revolution by need Madiebo). The war largely failed because of Ojukwu's self preservation quests.

IamaNigerianGuy:

And I repeat: it is not true.

1. Ojukwu dedicated his personal fortune into the Biafrian cause. It was not a small amount at one time his Father Louis was the richest man in Nigeria.
2. The Biafran people levied its citizens and raised considerable sums from home and abroad.
3. Many members of the British ruling classes who were Ojukwus personal friends invested secretly in the project.
4 France supported Ojukwu clandestinely
5.The Vatican through CARITAS flew food, medicine and emergency supplies - some say weapons as well into Biafra
6.For a long while Shell and other oil companies paid a part of their earnings to the Biafra government
7.Belgium sent mercenaries "unofficially" to fight for Biafra. Ever heard of Rolf Steiner, Goosens and others ?

Ojukwu was no fool. He was a scholar of History and Classics from Oxford. He was the Chief Instructor and Strategist for the Nigerian Army. He weighed his chances against the Gowon regime carefully and he had excellent intellectuals on his side. The brainpower in Biafra could only be matched by the south east and they were circumspect in their participation.

The war was won by Britain for Nigeria.

My brother, in war something has to change the course of the battle. It is acceptable to muster your support from anywhere to pursue your goal in war.

In war, the ends justifies the means. Don't also forget that the winner takes all. Forget what Gowon said, "no victor, no vanquished". It is a rhetoric to keep the Igbo's with the rest of Nigeria!

I am very indifferent about cession...I believe people\nations should have right to self determinism.

I really understand your point bro.

You just have to ignore some stuff in order to really grab some points. After all, no pains no gain, no sacrifice no success. cool
Some people really need to be put in their place sometimes

That is not true in the least. The Biafrans had many advantages. It was the British intervention on the FG side and eventually the blockade of Biafra that did it in. Without these Ojukwu would have succeeded. I intend to write a short article on the war soon so that our generation may be enlightened. Look out for it
Liar, you keep shouting British, so France and Portugal that supported Biafra are not world power.

A war was declared on Biafran-says-iwuanyanwu, so Biafra was fighting on the defensive

Yeah...but I love strategic fights.

Don't forget that the war broke out based on "mere perception" of tribalism and nepotism.
It's more than perception. Multiple reports has it that ibos were coming back from the north in body bags. Mind you, no body killed ibos in the west, but the north, that led ojukwu to famously say "if you can find yourself in Enugu or cross the Niger into onisha, you are in fact safe". Little did he know that you win a war by waging it and not by being defensive.

Nigeria have been hell on earth
A den of injustice
An epitome of corruption
A historic mistake

After the 1966 coup and the counter coup and the Kano and Zaria pogroms, war was inevitable. The grievances on both sides were too deep. Ojukwu had to accede to his peoples demands else he would have been removed. He was a hostage of historical forces.
The British facilitated genocide. It would not pass today. Remember Professor Bolaji Akinyemis statement " ...the civil war was fought at the right time for Nigeria and the wrong time for Biafra..." .
Also, Johnson was busy with the war in Vietnam, tackling the Civil Rights Movement and struggling to save his crumbling presidency; else American intervention might have altered events -we will never know.
The weaker side does not necessarily lose in war. See Vietnam and Afghanistan for example.

Without war there will be no peace
Everybody has a part to play

All we have to do is to go our separate ways knowing fully well we have nothing in common

Any successful and progressive country parades citizens who are patriotic
Patriotism is not forced on citizens
My problem with all this separation is will igbo still leave us alone even after gain independent ?knowing fully well how greedy and lack of contentment they are.

Because that was all they could afford. If 50k of ur people are massacred, you will fight with bare hands. Igbos are not cowards. Besides, i dont think any other tribe would have behaved differently. Fight or be trampled upon. It is called standing up for oneself. grin

Perhaps you wanna blame God for making you a Nigerian.

As if you will come as a biafran if God gives you the power to pick where you are from. You nor go pick Europe or America?

I expect you to deny it since you "probably" don't like good thing but travel out for a vacation and see if you won't change your mind.

Your hero this, your hero that. I can bet that you never knew this man until now. You can easily say he's your hero becos you support biafra. How much have you willingly donated to them? They need help now, abi Nigeria nor donate money for south Africa? What have you done for these people? Do your people in the east especially those shouting biafra in Enugu have accounts where they appreciate these men who fought for biafra? Are they celebrated in the east? Social media will even make them popular if you celebrate them.

Today people know Ken saro-wiwa, Tony Enahoro, Ojukwu. What about the biafran soldiers still alive? Who among them come close to wole soyinka's fame? If you laud them, people will eccho them. In the east singers like phino Fino and flavour are more popular and celebrated than any living biafran soldier.

Try to create accounts where every igbo will use to support these so-called heroes and see if igbos will not be divided over the idea.

You think all igbos are united and they agree? There are many places that don't inter marry, in fact they don't do things together. Where is th unity? One biafra

you guys should quit trying to mock people or their rationale for going to war. You did not experience their persecution nor pogrom and cannot understand their rationale better than them.

You can castigate (or brand as foolish) the modern day Igbos but not those who took part in the Biafran War.

A lot of people still don't know what happened during the Nig civil war. Biafra was blockaded land, sea and air. They fought with next to nothing. They had to kill federal troops in order to procure weapons.
