Nok234:Hope you meant the tank is becoming obsolete, since all relatively modern atgms will penetrate the Armata. |

jln115:No infact Im talking about ATMG, With technologies like Active Protection System & Passive Protection system there are no miracle weapon in war even a Knife can kill ... But a prefere a tank than a Atmg in nearly any situation. And more Armata could shoot missiles too, it has a Radar lol the radar found in the t-50 a f...k.. AESA Radar this thing is not a tank... Is the futur ! |

bidexiii:exactly you took the words right out of my mouth. Our T72 is not a tank to plan your future on., it is already an old design and every military person on earth knows its weakness. T90 would have been a better buy. At the risk of causing an argument I'll even suggest the Na NA sells off or stores the T72, vickers, and all those assorted armoured cars and standardiz to the T90. NA should atleast have a minimum of 300 tank units. maybe a mix of t72 and t90 In a 2:1 ratio favoring the former. As for scout role an MBT can be used for scouting too. |

jln115:https://m.youtube.com/?reload=7&rdm=2lre5x2fn#/watch?v=kedBlURaRaE British Army on tanks And how to Be prepared for futur conflict a country that will loose one capability over another is very supid ... We have to be more multirole and have at least the capability to respond effectively against any type of scenario. Money is not something that stay when you have some buy something that will be useful for a long time and standardise the more than you can. I said why I think Armata will be our best choice first it is nearly at the same price as T90 and by far more capable in conventional and unconventional warfare, T90 didnt scared the Abrams and the US military wanted to only upgrade it until the Armata ... Armata today is forcing all the western world to build new tanks the US will build they new tank with Germany and maybe france... And for everybody to understand why am I saying this is that for me the biggest treat to Nigeria is another proxy war that will involve superpower (France) I said it period ! Maybe big economies wont fight each other because they will be mutualy treaten but Nigeria is not a superpower yet and any big country can do something without fearing to be hit by us. Armata will be up to date for much years than T90. |

Nok234: An APS is not the all to end all you can fit them to an IFV aswell.......as you said there is no mircal weapon....just as APSs have evolved so has missile technology to counter, counter measures. If atgms are becoming obsolete why then are more and more being produced?? Where as with tanks it's the other way around? In fact it's no secret that tanks are becoming obsolete and in fact simply don't work(logistically) in certain parts of the world. Hence the fact that the SADF which was the most powerful military in Africa during the border war invested billions in light wheeled vehicles and missile technology rather than in tank technology. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 9:40am On Jun 02, 2017 |
Nok234:I didn't say Tanks are obsolete(yet) but ATGMs certainly the much better investment, firstly even the best APS can't deploy vertically thus any atgm fired from either a steep hill, mountain or aircraft your fvcked, not to mention APSs are susceptible to clutter so when you are in a mountainess or Forrest terrain your fvcked. So yeah ATGMs are a much better bet. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nok234: 10:32am On Jun 02, 2017 |
jln115:Ok I think that we are on the same subject, what im saying is that the edge ATGM had on tanks has reduce with passive/active PS but ATGM like you said are very good. (I havnt said ATGM are obsolet to but are less effective or maybe going to be obsolet against modern day tanks ). An example is with Trophy on the Merkava. No tanks were damaged during Operation Protective Edge, with the Trophy Active Protection system performing over a dozen interceptions of anti-tank weapons including Kornet, Metis and RPG-29. For sure ATGM are very used, build it in the country will be a better investment than buy it from another country. Why I want a tank because it is more easy to buy a ATGM during a heavy fight than buy a tank when you are under fire. Im not expert in military thats why I listen to experts and they basicly all agree attack is the best defense. And in APS Russians has the lead they are the first to devolp it and say that the APS used on Armata is the best in the world... |

Nok234:Sorry buddy but if you look at current trends, the Tank will be long gone before modern ATGMs become obsolete. Fact is APS are never going to work 100 % of the time....and although its great to have an APS, any ATMG fired from an aircraft it's bye-bye tank...since even the most modern APS find it very difficult to track objects fired from vertically above. APS work awesome against RPGs and older guided missiles but are obviously less effective against modern ATGMs.....not saying they don't work, but at least 1 out of 4 atgms will hit. In a perfect world I would love if the SANDF had APS on all its IFVs AFVs Tanks ect etc The LEDs-150 APS which is one of the best APSs on the market was heavily funded by the SANDF which obviously means there is a need for it |

MRAPs and light armored vehicles recently purchased by the MOD for the Nigerian armed forces. NA now has 5 types of MRAPs, i honestly wonder what these guys are thinking, throw in the ARA from pro Force and that's 6. 10 Likes

In an interview with the Nigerian Chief of naval staff by M&P Journalist :The NNS Aradu has been lying alongside inactive for over two years now. Are there any plans to return the ship to operational capacity? "Certainly it is not our desire to have our ships lie alongside. Like the question that was earlier put to me; is the provision in the budget enough to enable the navy go to sea? To refit Aradu, the nation will need over $250 million and that is not what the navy can afford for now. We desire to have the ship at sea but as soon as the navy is properly funded and we are able to refit the vessel, of course we would readily put her back at sea. jakeporeshenko: Its simply because there's no procurement policies involved, thats why i keep saying i don't think there's a clear master plan in place for our military. To be frank anybody can buy whatever they feel like and dump. I pity the the NA for the day they'll need the spares for all those numerous armored vehicles in their inventory. Whenever the military does any display all you'll see is just mismatched random systems everywhere with little or no similarity. I keep wondering if they think winning wars is about having a trillion different platforms. two MRAP type is enough, two APC type is enough, Two MBT type is enough, two IFV type is enough its simple common sense, Any way thats Nigeria for you. 4 Likes |

lionel4power: I still prefer having numerous aircrafts but we keep having numerous types of what we can produce in Nigeria. Let NA put up for 50 Units of ARA and you'll see Proforce increase production pace. |

jakeporeshenko: Streit group have a servicing office in Nigeria. That's a very good advantage for us. The other MRAPs from the US are donated, besides only 25 units, this is also not a problem. Reva MRAP, we have 47 units primarily used by AFSF, a unit funded by ONSA not the Army. CS/VP3, 120 units, Nigerian army. Proforce ARA is not yet in service, besides that's a Nigerian company. I'm not saying it's great, i'm not saying its bad either, all I'm saying is we are getting 177 new MRAPs, that's a good thing. 3 Likes |

Nok234: Lol, the Russians can only manage to make ~50 a year, so enjoy your deliveries from 2030 onwards! Real talk though, it would be wildly irresponsible to by an MBT of that caliber for Africa. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by patches689: 6:16pm On Jun 02, 2017 |
lionel4power: You need a centralized procurement office. This seems to me like inter-staff (General v General) and inter-service (Navy, Army, Aifroce) d1ck measuring Before new tanks, IFV's, jets or the like... it needs to be more talk of "what caliber will we all use?" then "what rifle will we all use?" then "how will we transport munitions?" then "what trucks best suit our needs?" and so on and so forth until Nigeria has one general service rifle (one specific type of AK, not just the AK family), one series of LMG, one series of HMG, one series of light/medium/heavy trucks, one light and one medium series of MRAP's, one light and one medium series of IFV's, one MBT, one 155mm gun, one MRLS etc etc etc You have to build "the system" that is your army or else the individual components (like say, a T90) would be useless. Sorry if I sound preachy, thats not my intention. 4 Likes |

Henry240:Let me come at this issue from a different angle 177 APCs spread out among the 8 divisions means we will see a little less of the thin skinned Toyota hiluxes on the front lines meaning less KIA due to IEDS BIDEXII Two days ago showed on one the US donated MRAPS that drove over an IED , Minimal damage and it only flipped on it's side with probably 100% survivability rate. I get the STANDARDIZATION process also at some point this needs to be prioritized. B y the way JAKEPORESHENKO Where are the APC from? What are the tech specs on it. I also saw they are already painted in camo does that mean the y are all headed to the N' EAST? |

tdayof:this is not WWII where officers were still discovery what works and what doesn't. this is 2017, the world already knows whats best so no need trying to rediscover what is best for a country. As simple as a google search can give anybody the best idea on how to effectively manage a military force. (not lime am trying to belittle their efforts). but in this day and age there are companies out there that will develop any weapon system that is tailor made uniquely for you alone. if the ARA is good enough why not just use it to replace all other MRAP? Look at other developed countries you'll see that they have just one or two platform not in multitude. all this redundant equipment is more of a headache than benefits. fit example when Myamar bought the BTR 4 they purchased 1000 units In one go in 2014 so imagine the logistical simplicity. I know in Nigeria we have multiple terrain feature geographically but atleasg two types should fill the gall. maybe one tracked for the southern part and one wheeled for the desert like north. |

Henry240:It's not 177 MRAPs, it's a mix with LAVs and God knows what, the donated American MRAPs are significant by numbers no doubt but How did the typhoon come into the equation? It Would have been infinitely more rewarding to sustain the relationship with china poly technologies and the SA company with their wide range of products, I don't see any long term benefits investing in Streit even though they have set up shop in Nigeria, left to me they are better serving the civilian market and our various security services like civil defense, police and the rest. 2 Likes |

patches689: That's exactly what it seems like, today MOD procures, tomorrow officer of national security adviser, stuff like this is why we have customs and Nigerian ports authority procuring patrol boats and aircrafts for the navy. There needs to be a centralized system for procurement. |
