The midfield is very solid . Etebo ,Onazi and Ndidi combinations the best for super eagles. Etebo and Ndidi can play attacking football

Which kind blunder be this? Onazi and attacking football shouldn't be in the same sentence.
Etebo and Iwobi is there ,however.

That's a very racist comment, what's your justification for such a reprehensible comment.

No,it is not because I never said I dislike them because of their race. I said I don't like English players, period. I have no issue with Balogun,Troost and Ebuehi.

Victor Anichebe released by Sunderland

Nigerian striker Victor Anichebe was one of 11 players released by English club Sunderland AFC on Friday.

The Black Cats suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2016/17 season and have now let go of a host of players, including former South Africa captain Steven Pienaar.

Anichebe made 18 league appearances for Sunderland last season, scoring three goals for the club in their doomed attempt to avoid dropping down to the second tier of English football.

Anichebe has also represented Everton and West Bromwich Albion in his club career.

Onyekuru and Ogu not making the bench

Osimehen taking the slot of Onyekuru while Agu taking position of Ogu..
Rohr is the best person to defend this line up.

Not happy with the dropping of Onyekuru for Osimehen though

Rohr: Eagles Will Miss Mikel, Moses, Ikeme Vs Bafana But No Problem

8 Jun 2017

By Johnny Edward in Uyo:

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that the quality wealth of experience of skipper Mikel Obi, Brown Ideye, Victor Moses, Carl Ikeme, Leon Balogun and Odion Ighalo will be sorely missed but he is banking on the emerging talents in his squad to deliver against Bafana Bafana in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier here in Uyo, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Rohr is also wary of the threat the Bafana Bafana side poses against his side.

South Africa are unbeaten in their last 17 matches since their defeat to Angola in October 2015 but Rohr is upbeat about the Super Eagles’ chances.

“Without some of our important players in the team, we miss our captain (Mikel Obi) who is injured,” Rohr said during his pre-match press conference at the Ibom Le Meridien here in Uyo.

“We miss our goalkeeper as well. Also too we will miss a very important defender Leon Balogun who is not here, so we have reconstruct the team to beat South Africa
“It will not be easy to beat them.

“It is very difficult for me to name my starting eleven from the 24 players in camp because everyone is fit.
“We are in good spirits and for the players who were not invited I told them reasons why they can’t come and they understood me well.”
Rohr is confident his team will be up for any challenges ahead of the key qualifier.

He added: “It is important to have several options in a team where a player can solve two to three solutions because of injuries. I have a team that works round the clock. No pressure at all.

“We are relaxed ahead of this game The team is open to good players, we still look out for players in midfield and in attack.”
He also hinted that the experienced players in the squad stand a good chance of making the starting line-up despite the inclusion of the new players in the squad.

Complete Football Exclusive – Baxter: Bafana’s Preparation, My Spying Work And How We’ll Battle Super Eagles

South Africa’s national football team coach Stuart Baxter has talked his team’s chances up ahead of Saturday’s AFCON 2019 qualifying game against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

In an exclusive interview with Complete Football, the two-time coach of the Bafana Bafana revealed how he prepared for the first game on his second stint at the job.

He said: “It will be a big challenge to play against Nigeria away from home. I say so because of the little time of preparations we have had but I have embraced that and I have gained strategies to use on Nigeria. I won’t be defeated by Nigeria by the way, we’ll go there and surprise them. We’ll go there and give them a good run for their money.”

The widely-travelled coach who holds the record as the only man to lead South Africa to victory against Nigeria – a 2-1 win in the Mandela invitational tourney in 2004 – has declared his intention to repeat the feat on Saturday.

“I have done some work on the [Nigerian] squad, their players and I am reading Nigerian newspapers every day to try and find out what they are thinking. I will be honest and say I haven't had time because of my club commitments and I have had to tell myself that I will take my SuperSport hat off and put on my Bafana hat. It is obviously not perfect for our preparation, but I will get the DVD and all of that, break that down, get their last three games and break those down,” he said.

Babangida: How Super Eagles, Bafana Rivalry In Football Started

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria international, Tijani Babangida, has revealed that Bafana Bafana of South Africa's 1996 Africa Cup of Nations triumph as hosts marked the beginning of their rivalry with the Super Eagles of Nigeriain international football, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles, as African champions, were stopped from taking part at the 1996 AFCON in South Africa due to political reasons by the then military Head of State, late General Sani Abacha.

After nine competitive games with Bafana, the Super Eagles have won six and drawn three.

Ahead of today's 2019 AFCON Group E qualifier in Uyo, Babangida stated that the debate about who was the best team in Africa back in 1996, was the genesis of the rivalry.

"When Nigeria failed to attend the 1996 Nations Cup, South Africa came up with a good generation of players and became champions," Babangida whose brace against the Bafana in a 2-0 semi-final win at the 2000 AFCON , told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"At that time, even before Nigeria was prevented from taking part at the 1996 AFCON, Nigeria at that time was the best team in Africa. But some believed the South African side would beaten Nigeria to rule Africa.

"We eventually met at the Cup of Nations in 2000 and we beat them, and since then, whenever Nigeria and South Africa played, both side never took it easy.

"So I believe the rivalry dates back to when the Bafana won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations."

Babangida stated that Nigeria's continued dominance over South Africa is a mental thing.

"One of the reasons why Nigeria have continued to dominate South Africa is that aside from having more talented players, there is the issue of jinx against Bafana.

"When you want to play a team and whatever you do they will always prevail over you, it becomes psychological. So I believe that is why Nigeria have continued to have the edge over South Africa."

And on the highly anticipated 2019 AFCON qualifier today in Uyo, the two-time AFCON star (2000, 2002), tipped Nigeria for victory.

He added:"Nigeria are going to parade one of the best teams for a long time. It is a team of very young players and a lot of them newly invited and want to show Nigerians what they can do and that will make it difficult for South Africa."

5 Bafana Stars To Watch Vs Super Eagles

Completesportsnigeria.com's IZUCHUKWU OKOSI highlights five dangerous Bafana Bafana players which Gernot Rohr and his Super Eagles stars must keep quiet as they look to bag the three points in this Saturday's matchday-one clash in the Group E of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Andile Jali ( Defensive midfielder, KV Oostende, Belgium)

Andile Jali will be gunning for his 39th international cap on Saturday against the Super Eagles.

Jali has twice played against Nigeria; in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, on 10 September and 19 November 2014. He was in action for 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw in South Africa and saw 19 minutes of action in the reverse game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. The draw ultimately denied Nigeria the chance to qualify for the AFCON in 2015.

The KV Oostende player made 17 Jupiler league appearances for his Belgian club in the 2016/2017 season, scoring once. He was yellow-carded once.

The teammate of former Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala will be involved in one of the midfield battles on Saturday, and it will be interesting to see who Gernot Rohr deploys in the attacking midfield role.

Whoever takes the play-making role in the Nigerian line-up will come up against a good tackler of the ball who rarely gets carded. The defensive midifeld role for the Bafana Bafana, and particularly Jali, can effectively do a good job for this hungry South African side hoping to nullify the attacking threat of the Eagles.

Sibusiso Vilakazi (Attacking midfielder, Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa)

Sibusiso Vilakazi will be seeking his 20th cap for South Africa on against Super Eagles on Saturday. He was in the Bafana squad that held the Eagles to a 0-0 draw in the first leg fixture of both side's 2015 AFCON qualifiers, but was not in the team for the return leg which ended 2-2.

Vilakazi has scored four goals for South Africa and has two assists. He will be instrumental in the Bafana's attempts at breaking down the Eagles' backline with his incisive passes and shots from outside the box.

Tokelo Rantie (Striker: Genclerbirligi,Turkey)

Nigerians have still not forgiven, nor forgotten Tokelo Rantie for scoring the brace at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo on November 19, 2014, that stopped the Super Eagles from reaching the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. He played throughout the duration of that game and was in action for 45 minutes in the first leg that ended scoreless.

The Genclerbirligi of Turkey striker has scored ten goals for his national team in 35 international matches and will be hard-pressed to make his goals count this time after his brace was eventually cancelled by the Nigerians three years ago.

Rantie scored six goals in 24 games in all competitions for his Turkish side in the 2016/2017 season, playing a total of 1,148 minutes of club football.

Kermit Erasmus (Midfielder: Lens‚ France)

Former South Africa youth international, Kermit Erasmus, will be chomping at the bits to impress on Saturday. He was in the team that held Nigeria to a 2-2 draw in Uyo in 2014.

Erasmus had missed the chance to face the Super Eagles twice prior to that qualifying game. He was not named in the squad for the first leg of that fixture and was injured when the two rivals clashed in an international friendly on 14 August 2013. Nigeria WON 2-0 with late Stephen Keshi in charge and striker Uche Nwofor scoring a brace in the 49th and 68th minutes.

Another motivating factor for Erasmus will be his determination to conquer his injury demons as he has had hard luck with it. The midfielder missed 43 days of football and eight club games for Lens between March 15 and April 27, 2017. In 2016. He was not in action also between March 3 and 29th. These injury setbacks were responsible for his missing four key games for the Bafana as the team got into a new era under Stuart Baxter.

Erasmus played 22 times in all competitions for his Ligue 2 side in the 2016/2017 season scoring one goal and assisting another. That tally would have been better but for his injury nightmares.

Itumeleng Khune (Goalkeepee: Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa)

Itumeleng Khune was in goal in 24 South Africa Professional Football League (SPFL) matches for Kaizer Chiefs last season and was in action in five domestic competitions.

The experienced goalkeeper could be the difference between his team and the rampaging Nigerian forward players on Saturday.

Capped 82 times for the Bafana Bafana, Ikhune has been in goal in two matches against Nigeria, on 6 September 2008 in a 2010 World Cup qualifier away in South Africa which the Eagles won 1-0 courtesy of a 71st minute goal by Ikechukwu Uche.

He was also in action on 14 August 2013 when the Bafana lost 2-0 to the Super Eagles in an international friendly.

Bafana Bafana have recorded many positive results through the sheer brilliance of Khune, and the shot-stopper is capable of producing the goods on Saturday.

Mickael2:

brother please tell me you Are joking. I won't eat again until you tell me this is a joke. I mean how can somebody even say this?!

I would not consider the projections Forgiveness presents as being ludicrous, as your remarks seem to suggest.

Let's set the background, the EPL is the proving grounds for this comparison on ability, delivery outcome and quality.

From the bottom up.

a) Tega (Onomah) Vs Nwakali, both are midfielders, The EPL arguably the best and most competitive league in the World. The Dutch Eredivisie ranked 13 in Europe. Nwakali is playing in the Dutch second division way below EPL, ahead of Onomah are world class midfielders ahead of Nwakali well nobody. My opinion Onomah is ahead and better for now.

b) Solanke is a striker so bringing Iwobi into it is somewhat questionable. KC is ahead for now but just. However, both of them will have to prove who is better when they start playing regular. KC possibly for WestHam and Solanke for Liverpool. Solanke is more of an out an out striker than KC nonetheless KC has a sharper eye for goal.

c) Seyi is ahead in my opinion is ahead has played 13 games for Liverpool and 28 in the championship. Orji has played 6 for Bologna. Shall I say Liverpool and Bologna no be mate. I can assure you Klopp rates Seyi.

d) Lookman proven and tested at his young age in the championship and now finding his way through the premiership. Onyekuru has played in the Belgium league considered much below the EPL. However, the main issue is he is the star player fir his team and plays a free do what you like role in his club. When he comes to the EPL much more physical and a lot faster he will not find it easy. To me Lookman Shades him market value also Lookman is still ahead.

Add to this the physicality and unforgiving nature of if the EPL no mistakes allowed. Some of these players could easily get lost. Just like Isaac Success after doing supposedly well with Granada in La Liga he has been a flop in the EPL and a waste-man.

So it's not a laughing matter but please Lol.

Finally I'm back to England. Where can I watch the match live don't think it's on TV ( Sky and or BT sport) please anybody know

Even with the talk by Nigerian journalists of how great Ogu was, pushing Etebo for starting place, he did not make the bench.

Onyekuru will get his time.

Awaziem keeping Omeruo on the bench has to be the biggest story. Does that mean Omeruo is now 4th choice.

Have always had my doubts about Omeruo as a defender particularly from his playing days at Middlesbrough. He simply was not outstanding just ok we need exceptional. Remember how exceptional Yobo was in his time at Everton.

In this regard I rate Dominic Iorfa better.

Awaziem has in my opinion considerably more composure and vision on the ball turning from defence to attack quickly and linking up play with better controlled passing. So I'm not suprised he starts.

Late Change in SE line up

The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has decided against fielding two players who are observing the Ramadan Fast on the same flank, and according to reports reaching Owngoalnigeria.com has decided to drop Ahmed Musa from his starting line up in favour of Moses Simon.

Rohr made the call to help the team maintain their energy level on the right flank as starting Musa on the right with Shehu Abdullahi as right back means playing two players who are observing the Ramadan fast on the same flank.

Gent Moses Simon will now play in a three man attack alongside Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi in a 4-3-3 formation up

Probably strategy. Rohr wants a defender who can hold the ball in this game. Probably to draw out the South Africans who might play deep. Makes this a mouthwatering encounter.

Props to all players who worked so hard in camp to make it. These guys are inspirations for the coming generation of Super Eagles players.

Decision to start Awaziem ahead of Omeruo explained

As exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria.com FC Po‎rto defender Chidozie Awaziem will start ahead of Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo in the heart of Nigeria’s defence alongside William Troost-Ekong.

Awaziem made his international debut for Nigeria against Togo last few days ago, but the 20 year old has gotten the nod to start ahead of Omeruo who has been a stalwart at the back for Nigeria since 2013.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered the decision to start Awaziem was taken by Rohr in France as he did several drills with the defenders ahead of the South Africa game, Omeruo didn’t make it to their camp in France while Awaziem did.

The Porto man interpreted correctly the drills in the friendly game against Togo which Nigeria won 3- 0 , and during training in Uyo, he was once again at his best leaving the coach with no option than to hand him a start.

Furthermore Rohr believes South Africa forward Tokelo Rantie has a physiological edge over Omeruo after he literally destroyed the 24 year old few years ago in an AFCON qualifier at same venue.
