Joebie: I think a lot of people are trying to gloss the true problem with the Super Eagles. For long, I have complained about the defensive midfield role and I think Rohr's mistake was doubting his instincts. First of all, Kayode starting that game would not make any difference. Anyone thinking that missed the true picture of that game. Our problem came with ineffective killer passes. That I agree with Odegbami. His highlighting about the attack midfield but neglecting a Standing four later in his solution misses a clear problem. Let me illustrate with the Chelsea set up. _________Azpilicueta (CB)___________Cahill (CB) ________________________Luiz (CB) ___________Kante (DMF)___________Matic (DMF) What Conte did here was actually enforcing roles than just changing formation. Look at the same position from the Super Eagles against South Africa _________Ekong (CB)______________Awaziem (CB) ______________________Onazi (DMF) ___________Ndidi (DMF)_____________Etebor (CMF) If you look at it from this context, you will understand why Rohr played three physical midfielders in the midfield. Imagine our team playing with the defensive set up of Chelsea, that is Onazi deep with the defenders most of the time, giving Ndidi and Etebo a bit of freedom. Imagine Luiz leaving that back three, that is a catastrophe waiting to happen. This problem has gone on for years. I highlighted once about Mikel shouting at Onazi, I think in the friendly game against the United States and leaving the ball, causing Keshi to sub Mikel. This problem has lasted for long and certainly caused us the last AFCON. The first thing we must solve is having a standing four. Someone will keep it simple. Remember Hope Akpan was not what we will call experience in the context of the Super Eagles when he steadied the ship. The idea of a Rookie defender is what I find baffling. That was not the problem. Omeruo in the context of the Super Eagles was a Rookie when he pulled off mean feats against the likes of Drogba in the AFCON. During the qualifiers, with a more experienced team, Sudan and Congo beat us. In a more steady scenario, we outplayed and beat them. We need to sort out that four role. We also need to sort out the left back role. These areas to me are our most critical positions and the are held by in the Super Eagles context, EXPERIENCE PLAYERS. I have written and screamed for years about this and I hope Rohr sorts it out. 2 Likes |

Icon4s: Odegbami forgot that Akpeyi was there because of EXPERIENCE. At least Awaziem can claim Rookie.

Claudio Ranieri, former coach of Leicester City is to take over Nantes after Conceicao left Nantes to become coach of Porto. In the deal, Awaziem will move to Nantes and will have the opportunity of working under a top quality manager Claudio Ranieri. Wish the young man the best. Ranieri was the brain behind the resurrection of Monaco. He coached them from the lower division to the Ligue 1 and then finished second with them before his departure. I see Awaziem in good hands. |

Icon4s: Hmm ... the day Omeruo will fluff his lines again, u will still come back and say he is no good. Frankly, I am not sold on Omeruo. That dude fidgets a lot at the back. Dont worry, cameroun game is next. We will see how his expereience plays out. Experience. Experience, how did Echiejile fair in that game? Would u honestly beat your chest and say he had a good game? I think we still dont get it. We lost the game from our midfield. Talking about rookie defender or whatever the case is , is practically immaterial. We have seen good midfielders make defenders look soooo gorgeous. And when all that is not in place, Same defenders get jittery. And thats just exactly what happened. We lost the game from wrong tactics and bad midfield combo. PERIOD! Anyone but omeruo please 2 Likes |

TheGoodJoe: All just because Alampasu didn't make match day squad. Haha haha The truth is there are no good goalkeepers in Africa any more. I mentioned this fact months ago. If I look into the NPFL for instance I can't even think of any goalie that is credible enough to face Cameroon in the absence of Ikeme. No just mention Alampasu o bc that game go be like horror movie. I no go watch. I don't even know why Emmanuel Daniel is being ignored. I have more confidence in him than Alampasu. Let us see the goalies Rohr will invite against Cameroon. 1 Like |

Has it ever occur3d to anyone that Onazi could be a great LB/RB. Apart from the "wayo" PK they awarded against him in 2013 ANC, Onazi excelled greatly in the RB position against Zambia. Alaba was converted from MF to one of the best FBs. There are many more players like this. I say this cos I think Onazi could excel very well in thr problematic LB position. He has the energy to pace up and down all game, he tackles very firmly, we can manage his passings if he's in the opponents box. Also, we seem to underrate Ideye a lot in Naija. Ideye is one attacker that makes a nonsense attack lime look like they have swag due to his link up play. Although, he misses a lot but his movement is a source of concern to most opposing defences. He worked perfectly with Emenike, Iheanacho and to some extent with Musa. One of my regrets watching SE is that I never got to see Ideye and Martins play together. To me these are the best linkup attackers that Naija have had in recent times. With that being said, my ideal teamexcluding injuries would be: Ikeme; Shehu RB, Balogun & Troost CBs, Onazi LB; Mikel and Ndidi MFs; Etebo LM/LW, Moses LM/LW; Iheanacho SS, Ideye FW |

Segadem:laughing... Kilode... Take your time o. I no like this kain personification. But jokes apart Akpeyi is better than Agbim. Agbim was one of the reason so many people loose interest in watching the SEs. I didn't even know how he manage to be a goalkeeper. Maybe he would have done better playing other roles. 1 Like 1 Share |

kennysville:Good, experience sometimes doesn't count and sometimes it count.I w never called Ndidi a rookie coz he is having a great playing time in Europe facing good class of players week in week out but Awaziem lack it in his club and it really showed against South Africa, such player cannot do it against Cameroon. On Omeruo u are absolutely right coz South Africa and Zambia show it all and no good coach w gamble on him as CB unless d coach is ready to work on him psychological. Let us just hope Balogun w make it but to be on safer side player like Oboboana should be recalled to make d competition thick in d defence. |

Icon4s:Emmanuel Daniel haven't played a game yet for Orlando Pirates. Must be said the last season in Rangers, he was not the first choice. Nana Bonsu, kept about 80% of Rangers games, the other 20% was shared between Emmanuel Daniel and Akor Itodo. Personally, I wouldn't suggest Emmanuel to start for the Super Eagles. I believe he has lost a certain spark in his game which he had in abundance while he was an upcoming keeper. These days, there's a lot of big manism in his game. He has become arrogant and pompous because he feels he have arrived. I'm a huge fan of Daniel. I had him as Vincent Enyeamas successor especially after his heroics against Sfaxien in Tunisia. A game he saved a penalty and posted a shut out that she Rangers qualify for the group stages of the Confederations cup. For now, he's not ready for the Super Eagles. This is coming from a big fan. |

Icon4s:Icon4 remember we had a discussion on d need for Rohr to look at home front for players but guys here kick against it saying they are not good enough for national team but now we are having serious issue in goalkeeping and defence. The same thing happened to Keshi prior to Afcon 2013 coz at that period we lacked quality defenders in Europe,Keshi look inward and discovered Oboboana,Eguekwe,Odunlami and moved Omeruo to CB when Yobo was losing it. Rohr need to look inward coz we are lacking quality defenders in Europe and this was d reason a Porto B defender needs come in as CB and there is need for us to stop this attitudes of always forcing our players to early retirement coz I don't know why player like Oboboana was not considered for invitation again despite still playing in Europe. On goalkeeping, well we have seen what happened against south Africa that in d absence of Ikeme we are in trouble coz I don't see Akpeyi,Ezenwa,Alampasu stepping into Ikeme shoe for now but I believe Austin Ejide and Dele Aiyenuga are still active,d duo are still better as cover up,i remember at a time Spain always have Casillas,Valdez,Reina in d national team,so what stop us from doing d same. |

Dedebanky85: Onazi of 2013 is not the same as Onazi of 2017. If you try that stuff then we will end up having a 3 man backline or the chances are that he will continue conceding dangerous freekicks. The criticism we have of his game is his lack of positional discipline and you want to play him at LB? |

Kog45: A nice piece you have here. I am particularly about the issue of being in a haste to always offload our older players. I have spoken against it over and over, back and forth. We need the experienced players in the team. They are so quick to want to offload Omeruo, Onazi, Echiejile and Shehu. I know how some even bad mouthed Mikel here until Mikel shut them up against Zambia and Algeria. They want to turn the Super Eagles to an U21 team. Mba nu. That lack of experience will surely show las-las. Just like the SA game and Ajax against Manchester United at Europa league. We lost to SA due to the gross inexperience in the team. Even the Onazi himself that was the captain that was supposed to drive the troupe how experienced is he? Talking about Obaobona. He suffered same fate with Ambrose here. They were so bad mouthed and every goal we conceded were credited to them. Just like they are doing for Akpeyi and Onazi now. Someone even said here that we(they) will soon send out Omeruo just as they did for his partner, Obaobona. Just because of the love for Awaziem. Talking about the goalies, I don't think calling back Ejide And Ayenugba is a good idea. 1 Like |
