Ok so we will play a formation that suits Ighalo. We will also play a formation that suits Iheanacho, we will also play a formation that brings the best out of Iwobi and all three players favour different formations from the one the coach wants, how many formations will we now be playing? 5? You think football is like that?

don't get me wrong man, let me do a little justice too ma reason,

starting from the keeper, we need a goalie who commands and organize his line , as well call the to order wen stray, ENYEAMA

we have a standing defence with youngsters coming up,

a good front 4, NDIDI, " his position for club"

a combative CM to take command of milfield and to install calm MIKEL,

an ATM who links up with the striker, as well ceed the striker, IWOBI & ETEBO

flying wingers V.MOSES, A.MOSES, A.MUSA,etc to be tormenting, sending crosses, as well contributing goals,

then IGHALO, in front. You will see magic,
4-4-1-1, or 4-3-3, or 4-4-2

Meanwhile @bolded.... There are a couple of channels on youtube that show Nigerian football history of the 60s, 70s and 80s.... just do the search... I think one of then is called by something like, "Nigerian Football History" or "Naija Legends".... just do the search... you will see them on YouTube. Rich, detailed videos. wink

*The Arch Guardians of Experience have taken over this thread*

I salute you o Sir Kog45. You mean se you follow Naija's first golden generation (the mid 70s-mid80s) team. Daju daju you belong to top quarters of this great house.

Most of the names you put up there na from my Pop man and Austin Milado's song I heard them.

But on a more serious note, I think the NFF should create, have and run documentaries of Nigeria football since inception. Put them on youtubes, play them on NTA sports channels(instead of all this olympic reshow those one de show) and other stations. This will help us alot. Tell us where we were coming from, the huge sacrifice some have made to reach where we are and lots more.

You are the one who is confusing your self. I said Kelechi is more lethal in the box than Mbappe. Mbappe has other qualities he uses to surpass Iheanacho.

Also I said, judge Iheanacho after he gets his run of games. I wonder why simple things like you is so hard to comprehend. It is too basic.

How that equates to Iheanacho better than Mbappe is baffling. Judge after Nacho gets his run.
You dare me to put out your post which you rated Iheanacho ahead of Mbappe after the Manchester City vs Monaco first leg champions league tie?

You are the one telling tales by moonlight. You are totally wrong when you said Kelechi is useless as a lone striker. There are games he played very well as a lone striker. If that is your definition of useless, then you need to recheck the meaning of the word.
If we are to analyse some of those games strictly on his game outside the 6 yard box, we will find some inhibitions and hiccups.
Especially his hold up play, and playing with his back to goal. Which is a key ingredient in the locker of a typical lone forward.

Put what you want to put. I repeat, Iheanacho is a better finisher than Mbappe and Mbappe beats Iheanacho in other areas.

We can judge who is better after Iheanacho has a run of games. Show me how that makes me delusional as you put it.

I don't know your football background. But I will be surprised if you played organised football and still come up with some of these opinions you push out.

Kelechi played close to 70 minutes of a game and all you could muster to defend his poor output was about 3 misplaced passes which didn't get to him from midfield.

I never knew players were judged by the number passes which didn't get to them.

Let me explain this to you again. South Africa had their defence well organised. Their defence was set up high up and pitch which translated to an offside trap strategy. Balls over the top from midfield will look to have bypassed the defence which will mislead a spectator into thinking the ball was over hit.

The defence was so set up like that to deceive midfielders to hit those type of passes, which wouldn't come through anyway.
It is a dangerous strategy but if it works to perfection, what you saw last Saturday was about the result you will get.

This is the technical breakdown of what went down against Bafana.

Another story. You are the one talking of the South African defence set high up and using an offside trap strategy. Iheanacho beat the strategy repeatedly but the final balls were poor/atrocious.

So in that situation, bringing in a big striker will do nothing unless you change strategy.

I repeat, an attacking change in that scenario was the wrong call. South Africa was there for the taking. If Mikel gave those passes, we would have slaughtered South Africa in that first half. Not bring a target man.

Watford Starlet Uche Rated Africa's Top U21 Destroyer In Europe Top Five Leagues

Watford loanee Uche Agbo has been ranked among the top four Under 21 players with the most tackles in Europe top five leagues consisting of La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

The midfield enforcer and central defender won 77 tackles in the 31 matches he played in the Spanish top division last term and was the only African young star considered on the list.

Uche Agbo, 21, had a tackle-winning percentage of 66, and ranked second in that category behind Bayer Leverkusen fullback Benjamin Henrichs.

Henrichs, Lucas Torreira (Sampdoria) and Dani Ceballos (Real Betis) were the only U21 players that won more tackles than Uche over the course of the 2016-17 season.

Henrichs won 98 tackles, Torreira 97 while Spain U21 star Ceballos won 92 tackles.

@ your first paragraph. That's why I said I can only consider Odegbami and Chukwu among Nigeria's top 10 best.

I know Felix Owolabi(aka Owoblow) Wella. Growing up way back some of us used to take his identity on the field of play. Particularly wingers.

Adokiye was good as a winger but I still rate Emmanuel Amuneke ahead of him.

Amuneke that was so lethal that his every move was electrical and would always create panic in the opposing defense. Created and scored lots of important goals for Nigeria even with his short stink in the national team owing to injuries. To play for Barcelona FC no be beans o.

He and Finidi were rated among the best Wingers in the world then (though no official ratings)

Talking about WC slots. Even if there was only one slot available for Africa in that 1994 we would have taken it. Gba bee.

Muda Lawal was a midfielder then right? Can't remember. But if he was, compare him with the likes of Oliseh and Okocha.

The 94 team erased the numerous heart aches we had in the 1980s.

O I remember one clip I saw of the qualifiers for the 1978 WC. Tunisia Vs Nigerian. A Tunisian player called 'Hagger'. We lost that game either 3-0 or 3-1 after losing the first leg 0-1 in Nigeria.
Yes truly we have a great squad in 1994 but that doesn't guaranteed our qualification coz it almost slip away in cote d voire where we lost by 2 goals to 1,this match cost Siasia his starting line up in Eagles when he refused to give a cleared pass to Yekini and brought an end to Reuben Agboola career with eagles.

Due to this loss we needed to wait till last match against Algeria which ended 1 goal apiece before our qualification was guaranteed whereas Cameroon already booked d ticket.

In other words not all good team make it to d world cup,a slip in a match can be an obstacle for qualification.Remember how France lost to Bulgaria prior to US 94,just 5 mins to d end of d match.

One of those said passes had khune out sprinting Kelechi to the ball, he was caught offside in one, and the other 2, the ball couldn't get to him.

Those 2 "misplaced" passes have become the highlight of Kelechi's 70 minutes appearance?

You have gained cyber fame for defending the indefensible, but at least on this one, do your self a favour and admit Kelechi had a poor game. The South African coach said so, Rohr have admitted as much and Kelechi himself have raised his hands and admitted he was below par.

It still baffles me how Alloy Agu remains our goalkeeper trainer. He himself and Ike Shorumnu were not very good keepers you can easily recall their exploits when they played for super eagles. To me they were average and at times fringe keepers. Why is Peter Rufai never our goalkeeper trainer?
Their exploits in eagles colour doesn't matter but are they sincere with their jobs coz an old goalkeeper trainer who had his career with eagles in 70s known as Amusa Adisa discovered Enyeama and told Onigbinde point blank that Enyeama must be in goal against England at d expense of Shorunmu.

This decision paved way for Enyeama and he has been enjoying it till this moment, first Coach Adisa was able to discover d talent in Enyeama and he gave him necessary confidence to excel and d young man grabbed d opportunity.

Well,Awaziem should not have had bad day in his debut for Eagles,Omeruo good days outweighs his bad days in eagles,u already said it that u love Omeruo of old and not Omeruo of late.

One of d serious question asked Rohr by technical committee was why did he used Awaziem and he gave his answer which i reasoned with him that after watching two two draw with South Africa he decided to drop Omeruo, meaning that if not for South Africa,Omeruo should have started but Rohr have option in Ndidi as CB coz the guy is also comfortable as CB.instead of Awaziem.

I don't Rohr w give Awaziem another call up for now, talk less of starting him against Cameroon, pls go and watch d match again and analyze Awaziem sincerely on that match, then we talk.

Let me even add something else. You correctly pointed out that theGoodJoe hasn't played organise football and I think you may be right.

When I was small we had a system we used to call 'forward press', I think it's in computer games. In that system if the opponents defence is tight then the striker falls back into almost a midfield position so that instead of him to be looking for runs in behind the defence which will never come, he will come into midfield and join forces with the attacking midfielder so the defenders will not know who to look out for since there will be two players attacking their backline once we move forward but Iheanacho just remained stagnant like a tree trying to make runs in behind a water-tight defence, that never works.

A target man would have been the perfect fit for that game. The SA adopted a highline, the target man does not need to start running in behind the defence. Let's use a scenario, a defender clears the ball(the AMF has started running slowly gathering pace), the defence line of the opponents is almost close to the center circle so the target man wins the ball and holds it up(by now the Amf has gathered pace and is running in behind the two defenders already occupied by the target man and he is still in an onside position), all the target man needs to do is flick the ball behind the defenders and the Amf will have enough space to race on to the ball because he has already accelerated before the defenders even start to accelerate. I mean a person who plays football will know that a target man works wonders against high-pressing defence lines na, that's why Drogba used to murder Barca with Chelsea

From three balls in one of your posts it has reduced to two balls ba??

Sir Goldfish80.... You are really amazing when you try to cook up some fallacies just to drive home a point about Nacho being very useless as a no.9.

Anyone who watched that first half with a keen unbiased mind would easily count up to four balls that were over hit all the time after Nacho had opened up and subtly evaded his marker.

I am the one person on this thread who have always described Nacho in full in terms of his playing positions and his best playing position.

We both agree that Nacho is far more and most effective and super influential in games as a no.10 (Dynamically roaming AMF) or a no.8 (SS)... But As a no.9 it is absolutely fallacious to term Nacho "Useless".

He is good as a no.9 and has shown that already BUT is far better and far more effective as a no.10 or no.8... Chikena. That is the true analysis.

Your choice of words when it comes to Nacho have always been noted from time immemorial on this thread. So I am not surprised.

Kenneth Omeruo Counting On Chelsea Dazzler Moses, Mikel To Destroy Cameroon

Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo wants to compete in his second World Cup next year, and is hoping that the Super Eagles will beat African champions Cameroon in August and September.

Despite being favourites, the Super Eagles lost at home to South Africa in an AFCON qualifier last weekend, but Omeruo is confident that the national team will see off the Indomitable Lions, with several stars like Victor Moses and Obi Mikel expected to return.

''They are very important matches for us and we have the quality to win both games,'' Omeruo said to SCORENigeria

''The two games are very important to us. It is the World Cup and I don’t think anybody will take it lightly.

''Our midfield will be okay as Mikel (Obi) will be back, some other players like Victor Moses will also be back by God’s grace so we will be ready for Cameroon.''

Nigeria have qualified for five of the last six editions of the showpiece event in Fifa's football calendar, missing out in 2006 because the Angolans had a better head-to-head record.

After two rounds in the race to qualify for Russia 2018, the Super Eagles lead their group with six points, four more than their next opponents.

I said he's useless as a lone forward not a no 9 and I have been giving get points based on that. Being a lone forward and a no 9 are not the same thing.
And yes he's wasted as a lone forward.

Coming to the second point. I have given a break down of those 4 balls.
He was caught offside in 1,
Outpaced by the South African goalkeeper in 1,
Making it only 2 balls which were "over hit". I put it in parenthesis because I had earlier given a breakdown why those balls will look over hit for most spectators.

About my choice of words, I don't have a special choice of words for any player. The same way I called out Kelechi was the same way I called out Iwobi. Unfortunately for Alex, he didn't have an attorney to cook up propaganda to defend him with.
Where I come from, we say it from the belly no matter whose ox is gored.
