You guys have no idea the level of devastation in Somalia. Dont compare it to Angola or even Europe. Those ones still had governments and militaries to talk about at their worst. The Somalis are only recently trying to have a standing army. Even the presidential palace is a risky place. A kenyan journalist went inside the palace to interview their president and as the interview was going on there were shootings just outside, even the presidents life is at serious risk. I am talking of serious scale risk wherrby even the palace can be attacked. That country has virtually no governance instituion worth its salt. Of course they're trying to get things in order but bringing all Somalis together in one table without the clanism divisions is a huge problem. I dont like mincing words. Somalia has a very very very long way to go before it can achieve what one would consider a normal state of affairs. If you know Chad, then you know how bad things are there. Now Somalia is even worse, at least in Chad they have a government and army that has some form of reasonable power over the country. In Somalia, the govt is yet to spread its grip, still struggling with Mogadishu and thats mostly because of foreign armies. The saddest part is extremism which seems to never fade away.

I studied various forms of african music as a project work and i came across taraab music of the swahili coastal east africans. To be frank, the genre and culture of the music and people looks very much 'middle eastern' in composition, although one can also see some traits of 'africanism'.

I dont think their future is bleak. I just feel they have a lot of work to do just to gain normalcy, leave alone prosper. Anyone comparing Somalia to Angola is just ill informed or plain short sighted. Angola never came anywhere close to total collapse. Somalia has been a collapsed entity for two good decades. People have basically been living their own lives as families, villages or towns with no governance. The rulers were regional warlords and in the last few years Islamic terrorists were running the country (not all of it mind u, just parts of it). Somaliland is the only part of Somalia that you can associate with normalcy. Btw, I truly respect Somaliland. The sad part is that Somaliland would be hard pressed to rejoin Somalia. They dont want anything to do with Somalia, the failed state. Anyway, Im not saying they cant make it. But they need a good few decades, largely because of terror and clanism. And even when they stand on their own feet, they will have to grapple with Somaliland and some possible break away regions. You can trust Somalis to screw their new found peace again by starting another war with Somaliland or other regions that may want to secede.
