Fair point, i retract the previous Jackass

Turns out Nigeria wanted those Isrealy Cobra's and had to settle for Hind's when the sale fell through:

Well done. You just inadvertently wrecked your entire goddamn argument.

Jackass status: Re-instated.
There's a difference between Nigeria wanting something and some powerful individuals wanting to enrich themselves.

That was in a slimy, scandalous deal by the last admin aided by some individuals, thankfully it fell through and we were saved.

You should probably get that head of yours checked buddy.

That doesn't imply the hind is worse than the cobra though. For example during ww2 the British wanted more p40s but had to settle for mustang instead

I don't have my books with me so I can't give a direct quote but here's a link.

http://www.airplanesofthepast.com/p51-mustang.htm

The story is the British needed more aircraft and the planes they were getting from the US they liked the most were p40s. Curtis was already having trouble supplying the US, China, etc so they could not increase production to keep up with British demands so the North American Aviation company was asked to produce p40s for the British. NAA said they would not produce p40s but something better instead and that's how the mustang was created.

You're lucky I found it, would have pestered your life.

Are you sure the page is legit though, some of the gear they are using is not exactly Gucci standard, maybe these guys aren't top tier ?

With this kind of dress code, they look like they're from anywhere. You even see the AK 47... Don't be shocked if you saw a Recce wearing what looks like the French uniform with the Famas. Be the enemy, be your friend, be anything. As for the Gucci kit, it's overrated in the harsh southern Africa bush, you can't get far with it.

Its a waste of time because the argument has been over for a long time.

Y'all wanted them Cobra's... the deal got turned down and you had to settle for hinds.

If you want to alledge that the Cobra deal was only because of corruption, then you have to go ahead and give me some sort of evidence to substantiate that.

Hmm... Interesting.

I knew that the British used allot of P40's and that they werent lend-lease (Brits paid cash) so there were tensions when the Americans started expanding their airforce and overriding the British order... but I never heard the second half of the story.

Thanks man.

Let us look at the helicopter the Nigerian navy is due to receive some. The Airbus AS565.

We've known for nearly a year now that the Navy was due to receive some helicopters. However there was no mainstream source to confirm it, until a few weeks back when i decided, "what the hell", and shared what i thought anyway.

The AS565 MBe naval version of Airbus Helicopters’ Panther family is an all-weather, multi-role medium rotorcraft, designed for operation from ship decks, offshore locations and land-based sites. It is made for a multitude of naval and coast guard missions such as maritime surveillance, search and rescue, casualty evacuation, offshore patrolling and counter-terrorism.

Technologically advanced

Enhancing the AS565 MBe’s mission capabilities are its advanced avionics and systems, including multifunction and tactical displays for the crew, while the FADEC Full Authority Digital Engine Controls and (VEMD) Vehicle and Engines Management Display improve safety and reduce pilot workload.

Modular mechanical assembly design – along with composite Starflex rotor heads, blades and airframe – contribute to significant reductions in maintenance time and costs.

Additionally, the AS565 MBe incorporates a new-generation, 100-percent composite Fenestron® shrouded tail rotor, which provides high maneuverability, low external sound levels, and optimal safety for passengers, ground and air crews.

The AS565 MBe is powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2N turboshaft engines for reliable performance in high-and-hot conditions. It features modern cockpit avionics that include an automatic flight control system (AFCS) and flight management system.

Some 250 Panther/ Dauphin family helicopters are operated by maritime customers in more than 20 countries, including the U.S. Coast Guard’s fleet of nearly 100 HH-65Cs

For its deployment from ships, forward bases and other remote locations, the AS565 MBe is designed for simple and safe maintenance access.

Replacement times are rapid for such assemblies as the engine, main rotor gearbox and blades, as well as main and tail rotor hubs. Also contributing to the serviceability are easy operational maintenance features such as fast lubrication of the main rotor head and tail rotor.

Wonderful, we've known this for a while now long before Paris air show.

Infancy government already confirmed it.

http://www.maritimeherald.com/2017/nigeria-invest-vessels-helicopters-fight-piracy-gulf-guinea/

"Nigeria invest in vessels and helicopters to fight piracy in Gulf of Guinea, ensured the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dakuku Peterside. The Nigerian government has approved investment of 186 million USD in acquisition of 3 helicopters and 12 fast intervention vessels to improve the surveillance and patrol of the Nigerian maritime environment"

And I want to believe those 12/14 vessels are coming from SA

http://www.channelstv.com/2017/03/24/nigerian-navy-boost-capacity-14-assault-boats/
"The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television in South Africa.

He hinted that the acquisition also involved a phase where part of the construction would be completed in Nigeria"

Nearly a year or 8 months at the minimum if i'm not mistaken. That's long before the Paris Air Show.

The 14 vessels that are to be bought from South Africa, of which most would be built in Nigeria is a welcome development.

It wasn't really a cherry news for me as i felt, still feel that we already have more than enough IPVs in service, and that contract could have been solely awarded to a Nigerian company. However all the same, it is still a win-win situation.

Funny, the number doesn't include the units that are due to be delivered by John Holt Nigeria Limited.

We also haven't added the 4 units to be recieved from Ocea, from France.

There's also the 50 meters Seaward Defence Boat 3, which the navy would add.

On these class of vessels we have reached our fill. What more can we add?

It is gratifying all the same that the Navy would receive one of two types of ships from PT PAL. A missile ship or a large replenishment ship.

Although doing 1 LPD and 3 Missile ships won't be a bad idea.

I guess we would have to wait and see. cheesy cheesy

Moving on to some cherry Nigerian Air Force news, the crashed notwithstanding.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM: CAS CALLS FOR SUPPORT FROM CIVIL ORGANIZATIONS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has called for support from relevant civil organizations in the current war against terrorism and other forms of criminalities in Nigeria. He made the call during his operational visit to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 115 Special Operations Group (SOG) in Port Harcourt, where he noted the critical role being played by the Unit towards Nigeria’s security. He added that the visit would enable him to assess the level of progress on the ongoing reactivation of 2 NAF helicopters towards increasing the NAF’s operational efficiency. The CAS expressed his satisfaction with the evolving unique partnership between military and civil organizations, as being witnessed in the Unit. “It is gratifying to note that the technical crews of the NAF and AeroContractors are working together to reactivate the NAF Dauphin Helicopter”, he said.

The CAS thanked the management of AeroContractors, Overland Airways and Innoson Group, all of who are rendering various technical services to the NAF, at no or minimal costs to the NAF. He described the gesture of the 3 companies as being exemplary and worthy of emulation. “At times like this, the nation and the military, in particular, require all available indices of power to ensure total victory. We therefore urge other relevant civil organizations to take a cue from the aforementioned organizations by supporting the NAF in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria”, he added. Air Marshal Abubakar also commissioned a new residential building, designed to accommodate 120 new and incoming recruits. The block was named after Late NAF09/24099 Aircraftwoman Abdulmalik H for her gallantry and sacrifice to the nation, in line with the NAF's desire to preserve the memories of fallen heroes and heroines. Late Abdulmalik died on 25 November 2012 during a suicide bomb attack at the Jaji Cantonment Kaduna by members of the Boko Haram Sect.

The CAS and his entourage witnessed a demonstration by the Unit’s Rapelling Team after which the CAS interacted with the officers as well as the airmen/airwomen in 2 separate meetings. According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the best of ideas are not necessarily limited to the top hierarchy and hence his decision to interact with the personnel. The operational visit continues tomorrow, 8 July 2017.
