Nigerian regulators intervened last week to save Etisalat Nigeria from collapse after talks with its lenders to renegotiate a $1.2 billion loan failed.

Abu Dhabi’s Etisalat has terminated its management agreement with its Nigerian arm and given the business time to phase out the brand in Nigeria, the chief executive of Etisalat International told Reuters on Monday.

Nigerian regulators intervened last week to save Etisalat Nigeria from collapse after talks with its lenders to renegotiate a $1.2 billion loan failed.

All UAE shareholders of Etisalat Nigeria have exited the company and have left the board and management, Hatem Dowidar said in an interview.
Dowidar said discussions were ongoing with Etisalat Nigeria to provide technical support, adding that it can use the brand for another three weeks before phasing it out.

A business is legally separate from its owner or owners, meaning its responsible for its own acts and its own debts.

APC is working! I'm loving this!

One of buhari's plan is to chase out foreign companies out of Nigeria and I support this 100%

We should have more of Nigerian companies than foreign companies in our own country.

I think I will vote for APC next election.

This is good news and a good head way! smiley

Idiot .. roll out your facts.
can you explain what responsible for naira's tumble against the dollars? moreover who tells you naira depreciation is responsible for etisalat's failure to repay the said loan? you re an ignorant.

Sir,you are the illiterate that refuse to reason.
Buhari and his economic team caused it

How?

Ok bring out your calculator.

1.2bn$ borrowed at 150 naira to be payed back in 2years time=180bn naira to be paid back.

Let's say etisalat made an additional profit of 100bn naira that's 280bn naira right!.everybody rejoices.

Loan expires at the late 2016 dollar =504 naira,to pay back =603bn naira plus loan service charge say 630 billion to pay back.

What on earth can save them from not collapsing?

They made good profit for their business.

If they have truelu paid 45% then that have even paid more than they borrrowed in naira.

Next zombie please...
The question you should ask, is why should a Nigerian company doing business in Nigeria borrow from a Nigerian bank in dollars?

Stop talking like a full and use your sense, at least, for once. What has Buahri got to do with this? Why are the other telcos not folding up? Your hatred for the man Buhari will not allow you see beyond your nose and make a reasonable comment like the educated person you claim to be.

Meanwhile, as times by, we will come to hear the real reason why the parent company, Etisalat Abu Dabi, pulled out of this deal. There's more than meet the eye to this saga.

Yes, they have to change the brand name, Etisalat because the parent company from Abu Dabi actually owns that brand, and since they have pulled out of the deal, and the company has actually been taken over by the Nigerian central bank, then the needful needs to be done.

Other telcos are also affected but not on this scale.

Buhari and his economic team caused it

My point is, if they had borrowed from a Nigerian bank In Naira and converted it to dollars and buy whatever in dollars, do you think they would be in this mess, Because the loan would have been in Naira irrespective of the dollar exchange rate?

Someone made a bad business decision.
