No, he didn't, and he has never played in the false 9 role. Did you even watch that match (vs Celtic) or did you google search for matches Messi did not play in and stumbled on that? What is on statistics does not necessarily mean it actually played out in the same way during the match.

And, "a centre forward" is quite different from "False 9", which is exactly what that shows. Only Messi and Fabregas have featured in the false 9 position for Barça.

Neymar played like a false 9 in the role, don't try to chit-chat nonsense here. He's never been a typical no 9 anyway, so how did you expect him to play as one?

Even Ronaldo isn't your typical no 9 whenever he gets to play in the striker role. He plays like a SS/false 9 in the striker role, the drawbacks are his agility to evade pressure and vision (through the middle) which aint that great and the more reason he loves drifting in from the wing. He's still the best at what he does though.

However, Neymar has got all these (agility and vision), and when put together with his top notch movement and anticipation, I can only see him disgracing Messi if he gets to play the same false 9 role, because his movement and anticipation are already better and he's younger, Messi has the better brain though.

well, his movement isn't bad, but not at the level of cr7 or R9 or ney (I quite agree)but his movement I far from bad plus I think every other criteria needed for the false 9 role, he has an upper hand compared to the aforementioned. (Link up play, vision, passing, agility et al)
