Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Super Ealges central midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, according to the press in Turkey.

The total deal is speculated to be in the region of 4.5million Euros, as Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp looks to strengthen his midfield.

The Turkish Press, revealed that the move has been finalized.

Ogenyi Onazi, who just made a switch to Super Lig side Trabzonspor last summer from Lazio of Italy, instantly became a hit in Turkey.

However, speculations became rife that Onazi had severed ties with Trabzonspor when it was said that his agent revealed his client’s contract with Trabzonspor had been terminated due to unpaid wages. Tension persisted between Onazi and Trabzonspor, despite his agent revoking the decision of his client to end the contract.

Trabzonspor finished 12th in the Super Lig during the 2015/2016 season which meant there was no European football for the upcoming campaign. They also changed their manager four times and Onazi turned out to be one of the best signings of coach Ersun Yanal.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner settled well after moving from Lazio, and became a vital cog in the middle of the park, making 32 league appearances.

You would have to define what it means to Feel Nigerian from your perspective for other to appreciate.


Last year I was in Nigeria twice to link a 30 year old Ibo lady of mixed race heritage to a Father she had never seen since she was 2 years old. There are quite a lot of Nigerian heritage children who have Fathers who are missing. Then you have the full bloodied Nigerians who have been tutored by their parents, that all things Nigerian are bad and dangerous. I will not go into all the negative stories true and untrue in social media and the press. Considering all these impacting factors on the concept of being Nigerian, how Nigerian do you want them to feel

His concept of not feeling Nigerian may be that, i have unquestionable integrity, I believe in fair play, I will not use financial inducement to gain advantage (egunje), I will show the utmost professionalism, I will not call on any godfathers and if i have to do these things , i may not feel very Nigerian.

I probably know since 1994 every English Nigerian who has played for Nigeria personally, and the issues i have mentioned albeit tongue in cheek, have always come up.

Most Nigerian origin players that i know would choose Nigeria first , however, the approach by majority of officials leaves much to be desired as well as the haphazard organisation we seemingly can not get away from.

Therefore, because you want to play for Nigeria we expect these boys should throw to the dogs every good and best practice they have become accustomed to and rightfully expect in any professional football setting. And if that is your idea of cant stand heat, then we have a problem.

Front and centre is where Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho suddenly finds himself after completing his long-anticipated move to Leicester City last week.

It was a short debut for the 20-year-old, ended by a knock within 20 minutes against Borussia Monchengladbach, but it was enough for Iheanacho to prove to both the Leicester fans and manager that they will have reason to preen about their latest acquisition.

Played through by Riyad Mahrez, Iheanacho had every opportunity to have a go at goal, but chose to unselfishly square the ball to an unmarked Jamie Vardy in the box.

The England striker swept home, Leicester took the lead, and held on for the win. That assist was the highlight of Iheanacho's 17-minute cameo. It also showed the good and not-so-good parts of the young striker's game.

Raised as an offensive midfielder in his cadet days with Nigeria, and from where he won MVP honous at the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria, Iheanacho has since transitioned to a very advanced forward role.

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola stuck him upfront as a direct replacement for Sergio Aguero, and Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has continued in that vein since taking over, letting Iheanacho take point in his three-man frontline.

His six goals and seven assists at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013 must have had a role in that decision, not to mention his six goals in 10 international games.

That assist to Vardy speaks volumes about the striker. Everything about the goal, from the pass to open the space, his diagonal drifting running, and the square ball to Vardy, showed his potential.

A more single-mindedly ruthless finisher, especially one on his first day at work, would've gone for goal to open his account early.

He had the awareness to see Vardy all alone in he box, and the selflessness to find him with a simple, weighted touch. That selflessness, it could be said, is both a quality and a curse.

A striker should, ideally, have only one thing on his mind when he gets into positions like that, even if he misses. All the greatest strikers in the world would have gone for goal, but the midfielder in Iheanacho chose to pass.


It's also a major asset; having played in midfield for so long and so well, Iheanacho still has the spatial awareness to keep track of his teammates' movements in and around the box.

That said, Iheanacho must understand that he is now a striker, and goals rather than assists will be the key metric by which he is judged. At Manchester City, he was shielded both by his age and the giant goalscoring image of Kun Aguero.

A £25 million outlay for his services means that that shield is now discarded to the ground. Iheanacho has nowhere to hide, but has both an opportunity and a responsibility to stand on his own two feet...and no, he cannot hide behind Jamie Vardy, either.

Unquestionably, he has the talent to thrive.

Precedent shows he has the numbers in his favour. It is now time for him to step out of the shadows and be his own man. On the basis of his first showing, there seems to be reason for optimism.

So we should call him up Abi as Nigeria has now become a back up for players who failed to be called up by England. So sad, how do we now encourage our home based when we pick people who have no interest or desire to play for his home country. He is even down the perking order and has disappeared from the top flight. Even if our government has failed does not mean we should now drag the name of the country through mud.

I am not holding any grudges, but there's something call commitment. If someone is not 100% committed to your program, I am not sure that that player can give you 100% on the green grass. Such a player might be playing like a mercenary. And I should know because I used to play as a mercenary back in high school, and I can tell you that I rarely ever puts in as much effort for them as I do when I am playing for my home school.

Two time Super Eagles invitee, and MLS star Fenando Adi, sat down with Kwese ESPN and revealed that he will need to be guaranteed a spot in the matchday squad if he were to honor another call up to the Nigerian senior national team.

When asked how it felt like to represent Nigeria, the Portland Timber forward admitted it was a always a good thing to be invited to represent the country. However, he expressed his disappointment of not making the match day squad twice.

“If they invite me, I’m just gonna ask the coach, ‘Am I gonna be in the 19 man (list)?”

“The bad thing is to fly all the way from America, 32 hours to go there and back and not even be on the bench or on the 18/19 (list). It’s not a good moment or not a good thing, so for me that was very disappointing. I knew I could contribute but you just have to respect the coaches and do what they want to do, go with the flow. But also it looks bad that I flew all the way for 32 hours without being in the 19-man list. It was a sweet and sour moment.”, he spoke frankly.

When asked if he will honor a future call up, he made it clear. In his words, “If they invite me, I’m just gonna ask the coach, ‘Am I gonna be in the 19 man (list)?”

On what he brings to the table for the Super Eagles, the player said he would do what he is known for. “I would try to help the team with my physical play, with my ball control, keeping the ball up for the players. And scoring goals for the team, helping the team create and as well score goals”, he added.

The Timbers all-time highest goal scorer will hope to help his club cement a spot in the play-offs as the MLS season hits top gear this weekend. Portland Timbers are currently 5th in the Western Conference division. Adi has scored 10 goals and made 2 assists so far this season. He is placed 12th in the top goal scorers log.

Please this Onuoha matter should be nipped in the bud. Let's concentrate on people who feel Nigerian enough to play for us. Nigeria is too big a country to go cap in hands to invite a washed out defender slugging it out in the lower reaches of the championship.
Onuoha is not any better than Egwuekwe, Oboabona, Ambrose. Even Mikel Obi, Elderson, Ndidi and Ogu can do a good job at CB if we become so desperate.
Nedum Onuoha should stick to his word and wait for his dream 3 lions call up.
