Ighalo had played in Spain for a while so it was easier. Same with Isaac Success.

The Venezuelan boy also played in Spain with Isaac Success yet he has to go to Italy on loan again. There are other factors that end up playing a hand. Efe Ambrose got denied and he had been playing in Scotland.

Ighalo had a European passport...which made him eligible.
it's like we still don't understand the usefulness of fifa ranking...
while it will require....a Nigerian to get up to 70% for national team appearances, a Brazilian or any national of the top 5 Fifa football rank nations only need 20 -30% appearance to get English FA permit to play in the epl

Onuoha? Lolzzzz the dude that said he didnt feel Nigerian when approached by Peterside Idah. Now he got dumped by 3lions and suddenly he is nw a candidate? Plus he is 30 years old. What was he thinking when Nigeria needed him? Abegi!

All these clamouring for nigerian born players should stop. I thot they would learn from the likes of Fashanu. But no! They wanna find out what has changed in English football. Any player that will not be proud to wear Super Eagles jersey should skadoosh! We need enthusiastic and fire brand players not overhyped cosmetic joggers who cant stand the heat. Make them go pkay for 3 lions. We go see how far

Your comment display a complete lack contextual understanding, identity appreciation and insensitive in the extreme, I could say ignorant but i will not.

You would have to define what it means to Feel Nigerian from your perspective for other to appreciate.

Last year I was in Nigeria twice to link a 30 year old Ibo lady of mixed race heritage to a Father she had never seen since she was 2 years old. There are quite a lot of Nigerian heritage children who have Fathers who are missing. Then you have the full bloodied Nigerians who have been tutored by their parents, that all things Nigerian are bad and dangerous. I will not go into all the negative stories true and untrue in social media and the press. Considering all these impacting factors on the concept of being Nigerian, how Nigerian do you want them to feel

His concept of not feeling Nigerian may be that, i have unquestionable integrity, I believe in fair play, I will not use financial inducement to gain advantage (egunje), I will show the utmost professionalism, I will not call on any godfathers and if i have to do these things , i may not feel very Nigerian.

I probably know since 1994 every English Nigerian who has played for Nigeria personally, and the issues i have mentioned albeit tongue in cheek, have always come up.

Most Nigerian origin players that i know would choose Nigeria first , however, the approach by majority of officials leaves much to be desired as well as the haphazard organisation we seemingly can not get away from.

Therefore, because you want to play for Nigeria we expect these boys should throw to the dogs every good and best practice they have become accustomed to and rightfully expect in any professional football setting. And if that is your idea of cant stand heat, then we have a problem.

The issue of the three lions does not arise.

Deviating somewhat, which of our central defenders is currently better than Nedum

Seeing as a lot of our top players well at least most of our defenders are opting for the Turkish, league, why clearly they are chasing the money. However, the reality is they are far from being courted by the top teams in Europe as well, why

There has been a lot of talk about the quality of league players are playing in as one of the yardsticks for measuring quality. One of the reasons brought forward for the exclusion of Sone Aluko ( not my view) with so many of our players playing at less rated leagues in Europe. Can the question be asked is the English Championship less quality than the Austrian, Belgium and Turkish first division leagues

Blues Sign Onazi from Trabzonspor

Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Super Ealges central midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, according to the press in Turkey.

The total deal is speculated to be in the region of 4.5million Euros, as Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp looks to strengthen his midfield.

The Turkish Press, revealed that the move has been finalized.

Ogenyi Onazi, who just made a switch to Super Lig side Trabzonspor last summer from Lazio of Italy, instantly became a hit in Turkey.

However, speculations became rife that Onazi had severed ties with Trabzonspor when it was said that his agent revealed his client’s contract with Trabzonspor had been terminated due to unpaid wages. Tension persisted between Onazi and Trabzonspor, despite his agent revoking the decision of his client to end the contract.

Trabzonspor finished 12th in the Super Lig during the 2015/2016 season which meant there was no European football for the upcoming campaign. They also changed their manager four times and Onazi turned out to be one of the best signings of coach Ersun Yanal.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner settled well after moving from Lazio, and became a vital cog in the middle of the park, making 32 league appearances.
Onazi’s tackling and intercepting skills helped the six-time Turkish champions finish sixth, six places higher than the year before.

Should he take the move to St. Andrew’s with both hands, it would mean the Nigerian international will play in England’s second tier this current 2017/2018 season.

There are several factors.

1. The player has played a certain percentage of games for the national team. This percentage depends on the Fifa ranking of the national team. The higher your country's ranking, the less national team time, you need.

2. He must have played at least 30% of the games at a club in a top league. Granada is no longer in the top league.

3. The club has played continental football in the last year and the player played at least 30% of the minutes.

There are several others, they put it together to make a decision.

Deviating somewhat, which of our central defenders is currently better than Nedum

Nedum Onuoha's family went out of their way to stop him from playing for Nigeria not once but twice, first under Berti Vogts and then Lars LAgerback.
More facts have emerged on why Manchester City's Nigerian-born defender, Nedum Onuoha, refused overtures to join the Super Eagles for the World Cup in South Africa.

NFF's deputy general-secretary, technical, Dr. Ikpeme Emmanuel revealed in a chat with brilafm.net that the former youth international's mother, Dr Antonia Onuoha, was consulted but says she stopped the 23-year-old player from accepting Nigeria's offer.
http://allafrica.com/stories/201004220536.html

With due respect to Nedum and what he stands for,he is not needed anymore. He should man up and stand by his decision like a man. Quite frankly I find it insulting to read that if we scan through the length and breath of Nigeria, we cannot a defensive player who can offer alot more than Onuoha.
What is so fantastic about Onuoha by the way?

Do you agree with Collins Udoh on this write up?

Can Kelechi Iheanacho stand alone as Leicester's main man?

Front and centre is where Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho suddenly finds himself after completing his long-anticipated move to Leicester City last week.

It was a short debut for the 20-year-old, ended by a knock within 20 minutes against Borussia Monchengladbach, but it was enough for Iheanacho to prove to both the Leicester fans and manager that they will have reason to preen about their latest acquisition.

Played through by Riyad Mahrez, Iheanacho had every opportunity to have a go at goal, but chose to unselfishly square the ball to an unmarked Jamie Vardy in the box.

The England striker swept home, Leicester took the lead, and held on for the win. That assist was the highlight of Iheanacho's 17-minute cameo. It also showed the good and not-so-good parts of the young striker's game.

Raised as an offensive midfielder in his cadet days with Nigeria, and from where he won MVP honous at the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria, Iheanacho has since transitioned to a very advanced forward role.

Kelechi Iheanacho Mike Egerton/PA Images via Getty Images
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola stuck him upfront as a direct replacement for Sergio Aguero, and Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has continued in that vein since taking over, letting Iheanacho take point in his three-man frontline.

His six goals and seven assists at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013 must have had a role in that decision, not to mention his six goals in 10 international games.

That assist to Vardy speaks volumes about the striker. Everything about the goal, from the pass to open the space, his diagonal drifting running, and the square ball to Vardy, showed his potential.

A more single-mindedly ruthless finisher, especially one on his first day at work, would've gone for goal to open his account early.

Not the Nigerian.

Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City & Thorgan Hazard of Borussia Monchengladbach Michael Regan/Getty Images
He had the awareness to see Vardy all alone in he box, and the selflessness to find him with a simple, weighted touch. That selflessness, it could be said, is both a quality and a curse.

A striker should, ideally, have only one thing on his mind when he gets into positions like that, even if he misses. All the greatest strikers in the world would have gone for goal, but the midfielder in Iheanacho chose to pass.

It's also a major asset; having played in midfield for so long and so well, Iheanacho still has the spatial awareness to keep track of his teammates' movements in and around the box.

That said, Iheanacho must understand that he is now a striker, and goals rather than assists will be the key metric by which he is judged. At Manchester City, he was shielded both by his age and the giant goalscoring image of Kun Aguero.

A £25 million outlay for his services means that that shield is now discarded to the ground. Iheanacho has nowhere to hide, but has both an opportunity and a responsibility to stand on his own two feet...and no, he cannot hide behind Jamie Vardy, either.

Unquestionably, he has the talent to thrive.

Precedent shows he has the numbers in his favour. It is now time for him to step out of the shadows and be his own man. On the basis of his first showing, there seems to be reason for optimism.

http://kwese.espn.com/football/leicester-city/story/3176349/can-kelechi-iheanacho-stand-alone-as-leicesters-main-man

Suarez has been in nice positions to score but opted to square the ball to Sturridge. I disagree with Collin here. Vardy was in a better position and the goal for the team is more important than individual glory or praise.

I think Collin is trapped in the old idea of a striker. In the modern game, the team carries more value than individual glory.

What is most important is that Iheanacho showed maturity in that situation and many smart coaches will like that.

Spain is not England. Osede knows he is way down the pecking order. In fact he needs to give up early..Our Naija players that are eligible to play for England know they may get a chance if they wait. England is not that good internationally.

True. But I appreciate the fact that he's willing to pitch his lot with us, without waiting for Spain. He's only 24 years old, remember?
If he's like your average EPL chap, he would keep waiting for Spain until he's a few years to retirement before he does an about turn.

Onuoha is Nigeria-born.. Okay so are you going to castigate him now for refusing at first? IF he decides to play for Nigeria now espcially now that we need quality defenders, what will we gain for turning him down? There are many factors why he may not feel Nigerian. I'm sure only he can explain best what he meant at the time.

Holding a grudge against a player and trying to pay him back is elementary. If it was a father-son scenario, I will pet my son in the back and accept him. You don't lose anything. It shows maturity. And the bond will be stronger than ever. How about in future he goes on to say Nigeria gave him a chance despite rejecting their overtures initially. And that's one thing he would love Nigeria for. Nigeria as a country that has failed so many sportsmen. For once we can do what is right instead of holding on to our ego.

Please this Onuoha matter should be nipped in the bud. Let's concentrate on people who feel Nigerian enough to play for us. Nigeria is too big a country to go cap in hands to invite a washed out defender slugging it out in the lower reaches of the championship.
Onuoha is not any better than Egwuekwe, Oboabona, Ambrose. Even Mikel Obi, Elderson, Ndidi and Ogu can do a good job at CB if we become so desperate.
Nedum Onuoha should stick to his word and wait for his dream 3 lions call up.

Why do you feel inviting a 30yrs old man playing championship football who reject an invitation to play for Nigeria in the world cup is the rig decision. We are not trying to pay him back bt the true is that we don't need him except he's a goalkeeper that can help us out.

I am not holding any grudges, but there's something call commitment. If someone is not 100% committed to your program, I am not sure that that player can give you 100% on the green grass. Such a player might be playing like a mercenary. And I should know because I used to play as a mercenary back in high school, and I can tell you that I rarely ever put in as much effort for them as I do when I am playing for my home school.

So we should call him up Abi as Nigeria has now become a back up for players who failed to be called up by England. So sad, how do we now encourage our home based when we pick people who have no interest or desire to play for his home country. He is even down the perking order and has disappeared from the top flight. Even if our government has failed does not mean we should now drag the name of the country through mud.

Two time Super Eagles invitee, and MLS star Fenando Adi, sat down with Kwese ESPN and revealed that he will need to be guaranteed a spot in the matchday squad if he were to honor another call up to the Nigerian senior national team.

When asked how it felt like to represent Nigeria, the Portland Timber forward admitted it was a always a good thing to be invited to represent the country. However, he expressed his disappointment of not making the match day squad twice.

“If they invite me, I’m just gonna ask the coach, ‘Am I gonna be in the 19 man (list)?”

“The bad thing is to fly all the way from America, 32 hours to go there and back and not even be on the bench or on the 18/19 (list). It’s not a good moment or not a good thing, so for me that was very disappointing. I knew I could contribute but you just have to respect the coaches and do what they want to do, go with the flow. But also it looks bad that I flew all the way for 32 hours without being in the 19-man list. It was a sweet and sour moment.”, he spoke frankly.

When asked if he will honor a future call up, he made it clear. In his words, “If they invite me, I’m just gonna ask the coach, ‘Am I gonna be in the 19 man (list)?”

On what he brings to the table for the Super Eagles, the player said he would do what he is known for. “I would try to help the team with my physical play, with my ball control, keeping the ball up for the players. And scoring goals for the team, helping the team create and as well score goals”, he added.

The Timbers all-time highest goal scorer will hope to help his club cement a spot in the play-offs as the MLS season hits top gear this weekend. Portland Timbers are currently 5th in the Western Conference division. Adi has scored 10 goals and made 2 assists so far this season. He is placed 12th in the top goal scorers log.

Lol. You can't make that conclusion. We only call up players we need. If we have good reinforcement now in our youth system or elsewhere, why care about Onuoha? The truth is Nigeria is a back up plan, not Nigeria has now become a back up plan. We've have enough failures that will keep making world news whether we choose to pretend or cover it up. Nigeria is in the mud. It is just too obvious for us to pretend. It's out there big time.

Modified
The problem is when start thinking home-grown versus foreign-grown. Old versus young etc. Let's throw all those sentiments and pick the best that are ready to represent Nigeria at any given point in time.

Commitment for me is only measured the current period. You can take someone's statement of 5 years ago and conclude they are not committed, and they won't give their all today. David Alaba wanted to represent Nigeria, are you saying today he is not giving his 100% to Austria?

Haha.. name the solid defenders we have.

zicky:
Why do you feel inviting a 30yrs old man playing championship football who reject an invitation to play for Nigeria in the world cup is the rig decision. We are not trying to pay him back bt the true is that we don't need him except he's a goalkeeper that can help us out.

Joebie:
Commitment for me is only measured the current period. You can take someone's statement of 5 years ago and conclude they are not committed, and they won't give their all today. David Alaba wanted to represent Nigeria, are you saying today he is not giving his 100% to Austria?

Alaba did not turn down Nigeria or Austria. Alaba even made effort to play for us. Alaba feels Nigerian. That was why he carried the Nigerian flag when Bayern Munich won the Champions League.

Not Onuoha who does not feel Nigerian.

laughable...

goldfish80:
Please this Onuoha matter should be nipped in the bud. Let's concentrate on people who feel Nigerian enough to play for us. Nigeria is too big a country to go cap in hands to invite a washed out defender slugging it out in the lower reaches of the championship.
Onuoha is not any better than Egwuekwe, Oboabona, Ambrose. Even Mikel Obi, Elderson, Ndidi and Ogu can do a good job at CB if we become so desperate.
Nedum Onuoha should stick to his word and wait for his dream 3 lions call up.

Of course you missed the point.

Even more laughable you're suggesting Onuoha of all people.

Even I, don't feel Nigerian enough. And it's not a sin to feel so. It's not to a sin to express your true feelings. I've been here for about 3 weeks, but I can't wait to return to my abode, even though I call Nigeria my home. What does that mean? I have my own definition of feeling Nigerian. i can say I don't feel Nigerian because I can't even live here for 4 weeks. It's sad!

We want those who feel Nigerian to wear the Super Eagles Jersey. Simple. Let Peterside Idah not catch Onuoha near our camp. He will explain whether he now feels Nigerian. grin

Oh no. base on our current situation, we are still looking for full backs. you say Echiejile is good enough, and Shehu as well, good for you. Onuoha is expected to make a move to the EPL, and someone one says 30 years is too old. Let's call a spade a spade. We need defenders, and Rohr has been looking.

We are just giving Onuoha enough time to wait for the Three Lions and the Queen to call him up. We really want him to play where his heart is because his heart is not here.

We want those who feel Nigerian wearing the green white Jerseys. Those who will give their all because it means so much to them.
