Impressed with Ezenwa. Liked his commanding presence in the box. Dealt well with aerial threats. Timed most of his runs. In the case of the penalty, he was right coming out but should not have committed. Making himself big in the box and waiting for cover.

Highlight of the day was the save of a powerful shot and then putting himself on the line. He was good. More confident in him any day than Akpeyi.

Much better than Akpeyi, just had a rush to the head. Otherwise, good performance

Mikel Agu has a lot of work to do to justify his inclusion in the team
Echiejile got moses overworking instead of tormenting the Cams.

Actually, he is holding. We needed him between the midfield and the defence. After that, you need a ball handler. For instance, Pirlo and Gatusso (AC Milan) or Mascherano and Xabi Alonso (Liverpool).

Out of all the midfielders there, we did not have someone who could read the game and nullify threats. I do not think the blame should fall on Agu but the midfielders as a hole.

When I said we needed Azubuike in the midfield, i know what I was talking about. He is the only player in my view that can hold a midfield together almost as well as mikel does. Forget backwater league, if its in you, its in you! And notice this too. Each time the dude gets suspended or something, Nigeria team always struggled. Check u23 nations cup semifinal and the semi final at the Olympics. Seriously, a serious manhunt needs to be done for Mikel's replacement

Very true, the midfield trio of Mikel, Azubuike and Usman Mohammed was good at the olympics.

In all..... this is why I was a bit cautious and non-commital on predicting a scoreline.... I did say these Camerounians will give us a good game.... but truth is we were in control and our game plan should have seen us win this game 1-0 easily even though it could have been 3-0 too....

When Mikel left and Agu came in, and time was around 63/64 mins... I was worried because the likes of Siani and his midfield guys started running things in midfield... none of Agu, Onazi, Ndidi can hold the ball.... God!!! Mikel needs a replacement. We cannot always see our Darling team fall apart because of Mikel's absence.... it is disgusting.

On the bench.. John Ogu was a better choice to utilize than Mikel Agu who is just a destroyer with limited passing range...

But sincerely , Mikel needs a true Apprentice... Kelechi Nwakali is there... Even Abduljaleel Ajagun should be given a look in....

The time is now oooo....

But Good game Super Eagles... and Excellent bravery from Ezenwa to atone for his mistake with that penalty. He made the wrong call by coming out.

In the first half he made the right decision in same scenario by not coming out. I expected him to repeat that but his inexperience showed... but it is well. His one stop made him a hero in the end.

We got four points out of six from African Champions, Cameroun.... I remember the thread's goal was 3 points in Uyo and "to hell with Yaoundé" .... Looolll.... But we have four points and our WCQs unbeaten run is also intact... so people... let's focus on our next game against Zambia.

If Zambia wins tomorrow, they will climb to seven points.... that leaves us still 3 points ahead of them and with them as our next opponents. It seems it is in Uyo we may finally punch our ticket to Russia. So Congrats in Advance Super Eagles... But We need Mikel's apprentice abeg... it is top priority.

I hope I never watch Nigeria play this negative. We are bigger and better than that. I believe the late Night out on Friday affected the concentration of the team. Rohr took out the Mikel too early and he gets to learn like other Nigerian coaches. Mikel is the thread that holds that team together.

We need to work on having a replacement for Mikel. Someone with intelligence both on and off the ball. Someone who can see gaps in the field and help plug them.

I feel K. Nwakali should be training with the team. Even if he is not making the final squad. We need him studying Mikel closely.

Grateful to Ezenwa for putting his body on the line to save that goal. That was courageous and earned my respect. Glad he did not injure.
Mikel was getting tired. He always gets subbed around 65 minutes. Maybe he should've left him on for 5 more minutes.

Which negative play? You think we are Spain or Germany?

You play against Cameroon in Yaounde and expect to dominate them for 90mins? More so when they are at the verge of crashing out of the WC qualifiers?
You think you can attack in a game like this for 90mins?

BTW go look at the starts and tell me who had more shots on goal and on target.

Nigeria was the better side overall in this particular game.

Talking about possible replacement for Mikel. K. Nwakali has not done enough IMO to merit a call-up.

Alex Iwobi IMO looks more like a player that is more ready to suit that purpose. Etebo too is available.

Talking about Mikel Agu, the way some of you hype players here sef. He was even worse in today's game than the last.

This is a very tough game to analyse to be honest.
I felt the team played a very tactical game, following a well laid out plan from the bench. They played like a team who was set up not to loose. The first 20 minutes was to avoid conceeding and try to keep the Camerounians at bay, the next phase of the game was to excert pressure on their defence. Solid game management I must say based on the circumstance we found our selves needing just a Point from the encounter.

We got a goal and waited for the Camerounians to react so we can get the ball behind their defence with our pacey strikers when they committed players forward. To execute this sort of game plan required zero margin for errors but unfortunately, we conceeded a penalty.

On the part of the Camerounians, they frustrated our engine room (Mikel) by allowing him no room to dictate the tempo of the game. They tried to cut off passing lanes from the defence to the midfield as much as possible which resulted in the Super Eagles launching balls up front.

I will rate Victor Moses, Balogun, Alhaji Shehu and Odion as our best performers. All the same, I would have bitten off the fingers of anyone who offered me 4points out available 6 against Cameroon when the seeding was made. Not a bad result at all.

Best Zambia and qualify with a game to spare. This was our wish when the seeding was made. We are well on course.

I hope the players learn from this. When there is an important game ahead, ditch the grooving. There are times for that. Not when you have an important game ahead. It was clear they lacked the stamina from the game. All in all, I would have gladly taken for points before the two games. Okay with the result.

How do u know this is what was going on? Lack of stamina could come from playing 2 matches in 4 days against Cameroon.

The boys were obviously exhausted and the Cameroonians knew this, that was why they reserved some of their best players for the second half, and as soon as they came in they caused our wing backs problems, even the wingers on our side did nothing to help out because they were tired. grin

The Friday night enjoyment really told on them perhaps. grin

Thank God we had a draw. The game is still on.

Too leaky,Echiejile was just shifting back whenever Bassogog tries to take him on expecting Balogun to come and bail him out when Balogun has his hands full with those giant cameroon center backs,if not for Bassogog's poor decision making we might have conceeded more goals in that second half.

For Christ sake, we are Nigeria and we are a great footballing Nation. We have quality talents that we could set up and give the Camerounians a run for their money. We were very negative. We could play better than that. Concerning Nwakali, the call-up is not based on merit alone but training with the team.

I think in 2014, Juan Manuel Iturbe had not merited a call-up for Argentina but was training with the team and even followed the team to camp in Brazil for the World Cup.

We must not always wait for the sun to shine on player before calling them up.

Cameroon that played us with bravery, are they Spain?

We Got What We Wanted From The Games Against Cameroon – Rohr Okays Draw In Yaounde

The Super Eagles 1-1 draw against Cameroon is a result that coach of the Nigerian team says fulfilled his target of four points from the back to back games against Cameroon in the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers.

Speaking at the post match conference, Rohr said Cameroon played better than they did in the first leg, which made it difficult for Nigeria especially as they introduced three new players into the team that played on Friday in Uyo.

” It was a different Cameroon team from the one in Uyo on Friday. It’s natural to put up a fight when you lose away and you have a chance to play at home next. They had three fresh players, while we started the game with same players”, Rohr said

” Before the game against Cameroon our target was four points from the two games, we are happy with the one point picked up here in Yaounde. My goal is to lead the team to the World Cup, we are on a good run because we still have more points to play for”.

I doubt we can use 2 matches as an excuse against the same team.

Sir Icon4s, you are absolutely right about the facts you reeled out not attacking Cameroun for the whole 90mins and yes Mikel Agu didn't show much promise. But I think he was played out of position though, his speciality is sitting infront of the defence, Makalele type kind of player not a creative force.

Asides the fact that the Lions are no pushovers, we could actually have won the game to be honest but in order to fully realize our potentials as a team so weaknesses have to be plugged. Since the time of Keshi, remember a friendly against US where Mikel lashed out at Onazi and Keshi replaced Mikel, our midfield totally collapsed. A recurring theme has been that once Mikel goes off, it becomes police ball for us, we need to be able to address this. IMO, Nwakali isn't too young to be invited, obviously he's not a teenager let's be honest and all he needs is an opportunity, where is Sokari sef, now is the to start thinking of those who can take over from Mikel, Ekong couldn't secure a place in Gent yet he keeps playing well for us, other guys need to be given a run-in to see who can act as good cover for Mikel obi (the real mikel). Let Rohr try John Ogu as a replacement for Mikel Obi. Also it's about time Ebuehi and aina are given a chance to replace echejile, they can't perform worse than uwa is already doing. And sometimes, some players have to be given an opportunity to showcase what they have, before the Afcon 2013, who knew Oboboana, Omeruo wasn't established, same with Onazi.

Moses Simon Goal Maintains Super Eagles Unbeaten Run In World Cup 2018 Qualifiers

The Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained their unbeaten run in the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers despite drawing 1-1 against Cameroon in Yaounde.

Moses Simon opened scoring for Nigeria, and the Super Eagles hanged on to the scoreline until Cameroon were awarded a controversial penalty in the second half.

Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa raced to meet a ball into the box, but clattered into Cameroonian forward Vincent Aboubakar, who stepped up to convert the resultant spot kick awarded by the referee.

Nigeria hanged on to pivk a vital point from a difficult ground to further pull away from the chaisng pack as they now have ten points, and effectively kick Cameroon out of the race to be at the World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles could qualify as early as tomorrow if Zambia lose to Algeria in Algiers as that will give them an unassailable lead, with Zambia who are presently second on four points the next opponent for the high flying Nigerian team.

Correct coach, that is the hallmark of a coach who know what he wants. Reminds me of mourinho last season who focussed on winning Europa rather than fighting for a fourth place in the epl to qualify for uefa champ league. The coach targeted four points against Cameroon and he got it. He knows he cant loose the next two games as he is done with the strongest team in the group so far. Na we dey worry, the coach and the players already know qualification is sealed

Nice match.. Very solid defence, Ekong Balogun partnership working magic...

Sheu very underrated but hold his own and show class today ... Coming out with some crosses...

Echijele... Baba experience... The coach knew he's the weakest link... Manage him till we qualify...

Moses.. Look good on ball but careful and discipline...

Simeon... Aside the goal... I don't see much
Mikel don't have too much to do today.. Cos it's was all attack from the Cameroonians
Mikel is a rare germ... Maybe one day he will last the entire duration... I don't see him fizzle out of the team soon... He's a midfielder.... They last long... Barring any injuries palava

Onazi... Put up a good fight with great tackle also help echijiele at LB and Ndidi shielding the back four...

Ighalo really impressed

I was nervous before the first leg... But with 4points against Africa champion... That's very impressive...

They played according the plan... And I guess Rohr is being careful about he's decision...no more experiment for him until he get the job done...

Kudos to NFF !kudos to the coaching crew ! Kudos to Nigeria fans

What more can I say??
The boys did what they could.. We could have won the game if Ezenwa hadn't concede the penalty and if ighalo and Moses hadn't missed their chances. But its all good. We are still very much in pole position to qualify cus I don't see Algeria losing to Zambia tomorrow. Our draw has given them (Algeria) some hope and what more, they have their pride to protect. North Africans don't lose that easily at home..

We shall host the boastful Chipolopolo on independence day and we shall complete the job. In the meantime, Rohr should shop for a replacement for Echijele.. He is very very annoying.

Taliban:

It is a mystery how Mikel in the side holds the team. In 2005 World Youth Championship, we were dominating South Korea, took the lead and Siasia towards the end decided to pull off Mikel. As soon as Mikel went off, the high Flying Eagles midfield collapsed. South Korea scored two goals and we lost the game.

It is really a mystery.
