"Meet With Nnamdi Kanu" - Obasanjo Tells Buhari by Bashliveon(m): 8:30pm On Sep 15, 2017
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to dialogue with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to curb the secessionist agitations instead of the deployment of soldiers to the South-East.

Obasanjo said this during an interview with Newsweek Magazine.

Ironically, Kanu, had in the past called Obasanjo an “evil man”.

The former President said, “I don’t see anything wrong in that (Buhari meeting with Kanu). I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it.

“I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, (and ask) ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the South-East but from all parts of Nigeria.”

Obasanjo, who led the final offensive that brought the civil war to an end in 1970, said he had seen too many wars and it was time for Nigeria to move on.

He said he believed that enough dialogue had not been done by both the government and several groups.

The former President, however, said secession was not the answer.

“Those who fought in the war in Biafra will not want to fight any other war. I fought in that war and it was an unfortunate war and I said I have fought one war too many in Nigeria; I don’t want to see another.

“The heavy boot is not the solution. I believe also whatever may be the frustration of any youth in any part of Nigeria; I believe secession is not the solution.”

The former president, who was also military head of state from 1976–1979, said economic development in the country was the only way to solve the various agitations across the country.

Some Igbo leaders have complained that President Buhari, who hails from northern Nigeria, has prioritized the development of other parts of the country to their detriment.

“We need to satisfy the youth in job creation, in wealth creation, in giving them a better, fulfilled life, in giving them hope for the future. There’s no easy way out,” he said.

Did he meet with Zaki Biam people before killing them en mass?

How do you expect a sitting president to bow to somebody who insults him at least a hundred times a day?

Kanu has no respect for nobody, not even his own father, so dialogue is completely out of the equation.

Trust OBJ at your own peril. If he was in power now, he would meet with Kanu and wipe out his whole family

Someone who replaced Senate Presidents (Plural) like toilet paper.

He NEVER forgives, NEVER forgets.... this is the kind of leader we thought PMB would be. Merciless.

OBJ was just far more corrupt than PMB is wink...but Nigeria really needs steely leaders like both men

But how can Kanu, a coward like Ojukwu who ran from meeting just ordinary Governors, meet with the President? grin

Good morning Nairaland,

I was told the Python is dancing in the South East even when there is no music playing.

When pythons dance where humans live, there will be two basic reactions..

First, they'd run away out of fright,
When they see it is adamant, they'd muster courage and drive it away.

Good advice from Obasanjo even though he may not mean this; when I get into Nigeria, I'd send him a greeting card and an omu.

Unfortunately it won't happen because it will be a shame and an insult to the memory of his comrades who were killed if NK stands face to face with a tyrant.

-A tyrant who has never visited the South East since becoming President yet says we are one.
-A tyrant who ordered soldiers to desecrate a traditional rulers palace and abduct him.

Buhari is a terrorist
darkness and light have nothing in common
a charismatic and peaceful civilised leader like kanu cannot meet with a known terrorist like Buhari

Stop killing bokoharam members - Buhari

we Igbos/ipob don't negotiate with terrorists

Buhari is a terrorist
it's freedom or nothing
kiss the truth

buhari the dullard does not reason in this direction he has succeeded in putting Nigeria in flames.

when we told them that guns and bullets cannot quench the agitations zombies refused to listen.

if you ban ipob have you banned the agitations in the hearts of the people? No
new groups will spring up with new names while hatred between tribes continue to grow.

Obasanjo have technically absolve himself from any calamity that will befall the country in the coming days especially as we approach oct1st ,buhari and his cohorts will surely be held responsible for mass murder.

Ok o. Ipob members say they've been marginalized but then I say 'what have the state govenors from these states done to at least show their people that they've done much without the federal government? What have their senators, house of representatives members done to better these IPOB states'. War doesn't show who's right, just who's left. That been said, I strongly condemn the actions of the Nigerian Army over the week because Na from clap Dem dey enter dance

It's unfortunate that Kanu used his own mouth to ruin his struggle. As for Buhari, you need to listen and do something about the agitation coming from the east. The Nigerian does not have the capacity to contain arm struggle. Most of their killing have been of unarmed civilians.
