Stephen Eze will miss Nigeria’s semifinal encounter against Benin in the Wafu Cup of Nations due to illness.

The FC IfeanyiUbah defender sat out the Super Eagles training which took place at the Sekondi Sports Stadium, Takoradi ahead of the crucial clash against the Squirrels.

Goal understands he took ill and will not be available to don the green and white jerseys as Salisu Yusuf’s men battle for a spot in the final of the competition at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday.



This comes as a huge blow for the Nigerian team after the defender's delivered a masterclass performance in their 2-0 win over Ghana on Monday.

He is the strongest and reliable CB we've got for now and we can't afford to loose him to injury. He can even be in the pre-starting line-up but make we qualify first.

I couldn't believe what I saw with his performance in our last two matches. He seem too be the defensive version of John Obi Mikel. He put in that great performance after just returning from injury-I doubt if he even had any game time in his club prior to those encounters.

Balogun will make an excellent defensive midfielder, aside his ball playing ability dude plays accurate balls too. let's see off Zambia first

ZAMBIA 1-2 NIGERIA (2018 W/CUP Qualifier, Group B, 1st Leg)

The game was on matchday-one of the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers between the Chipolopolo of Zambia and the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Ndola on October 9, 2016.

Prior to the game, the Super Eagles had never recorded an away win over Zambia in their past meetings.


But all that changed as the Super Eagles triumphed 2-1 with the duo of Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scoring for Nigeria.

Zambia pulled a goal back througn Collins Mbesuma with 20 minutes left, but Eagles held on to claim the three points.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa saw the Super Eagles drawn in the same group with then African champions Zambia who won the tournament in 2012.

Haven't checked but remember him when he first came to Chelsea same team as Tega and co. And think he came from Belgium.

He was so small didnt think he would make it although he was exceptionally technical a wizard with the ball. His Dad was an exinternational for Zambia.

Very proud of this guy, this is a incredible feat, considering how much quality defenders play in the ligue 1. He would continue to prove those who came for his head against SA wrong. Just also like Keshi, Yekini, Amokachi, Kanu, Oruma, Okocha, Mikel, name them started from the local league.
What we are looking at now is the current standard of the league compared to the the quality of the Super Eagles.

Any player that must be introduced into the team must be better than the player he is displacing from the list. Simple.

You cannot tell me you will pick Adeleye and Eze as back up CBs over Awaziem and Omeruo. If you so chose Adeleye and Eze over Awaziem and Omeruo, well....your choice.
