Good morning. Please i have some questions. In assessing as a valuer via Vetasses. I worked with a firm in the designated profession between 2010 to 2013 which falls within the last 5 years as required by vetassess however from 2013 till date, I am working in a totally different profession, will this affect my assessment? Kindly advice me. Thanks a lot. |

@ jaybwoi I am a police surgeon and I spend lots of time in the laboratory. They recognised 10 years five months as at appropriately skilled level.I now need material to study for the exams which books did you use do you have past papers? |

joslight:Since you don't practice in Nigeria, is possible for you to work in the laboratory and gained those years of experience. There are recommended textbooks on AIMS website. |

Hi everyone, I must appreciate the efforts of those who go out of their way to help here most especially Bellong. Congratulations to all those that have received their PR, Australia awaits you!!!! I have been a silent reader here and this forum was also my reference when I was applying for PR. I want to share my experience in terms of job search for the benefit of those landing soon. I cannot remember much of my timeline but I will try to summarize below PTE Academic - April 2016 CPA assessment (Management Accountant) - June 2016 Positive Assessment - July 2016 EOI (70 points) - July 2016 ITA - September 2016 Application lodged - October 2016 Visa Grant - January 2017 Landed - March 2017 I was applying for jobs between March and May and finally got a job in June to the glory of God. While I was applying, I noticed that I never got an interview invite from all the jobs I applied to on Linkedin (for whatever reason), I guess this has to do with the local experience thing. Besides, most jobs on Linkedin are for permanent positions and most employers I think, are skeptical about employing a new migrant for a permanent position. So, my strategy changed to the use of recruitment agencies and in my opinion, this is the best bet for new migrants. I say this because they have immediate information about open positions and they also have lots of contract roles which is what a lot of new migrants start off with. I contacted about 4 agencies and that was how I started getting interview invitations and finally got a job. Another strategy I adopted was to apply for the exact position I held while in Nigeria, since this matched the position being advertised, I guess it was easy for the recruiter to sell my profile to the client. All the glory belongs to God. To all the accountants looking to assess but put off by the current high scores required, please don't be discouraged. Explore all options - include partner points if this will give the needed boost and God will indeed crown your efforts. I got this PR after being denied visas multiple times by other countries, so much so that I could not believe it when I actually got the grant so let's keep trying, God will show up when we least expect IJN. Have a lovely day everyone 30 Likes 2 Shares |

Hephziebah:Thanks for the encouragement. With the 85points in the last draw, it seems this might really be out of reach for accountants |

@bellong, fellow accountants in the house please assist. I assessed as an accountant and submitted my EOI for both visas 189 and 190(NSW) with 70 points. However with the recent high points required for accountants, I am thinking of doing a fresh assessment for finance manager and submitting a new EOI. Please advice if this will cause any issues with DIBP 1 Like |

oreayo2011: No, it will not cause any issue with DIBP. Do you have 20 point in English? Finance manager is sponsored only by NT, SA and TAS and not available on 189. |

oreayo2011: Have you applied for nomination from Northern Territory? |
Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by oreayo2011: 11:45pm On Oct 02, 2017 |
bellong: I haven't mainly because of the POF. But even if i get their nomination, the points in the last draw was 85. So my 70points plus 5 from state nomination will not reach that |
Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by bellong: 12:14am On Oct 03, 2017 |
oreayo2011: State nomination doesn't follow 189 draw. Once you get nomination from a state, you immediately get ITA from DIBP. You can apply to other states sponsoring accountants. 1 Like |

Good morning Bellong, thanks for keeping vigil on us. For those who have applied to vetasses with occupations which are not completely same with what they assessed for, e.g, joslight. Did you guys just state directly that you're what you're assessing for, or it is your JD alone that described what you wanna love to be assessed for, while you maintain your real professional title in the CV that you sent to Vetasses? |

It is annoying when people ask how to go about applying. The title of the thread says "general guide to Australian PR..." Yet you say you don't know how to go about it. You can't leave the beginning of a textbook to jump to the last page without first having basic understanding of what the book is about by reading introduction. For all those who don't know how to go about it, a simple read of the first three pages will resolve your issue. @itissettled3, It shouldn't affect your assessment provided you tidy your application well. 8 Likes |
