Hello Tuteso, I disagree that Naija degrees are equivalent to Australian diplomas. I read Accounting from a Nigerian University and was assessed as being equivalent to Australian Bachelors (assessed with CAAnz). Praiseisgood read Accounting in a Nigerian University and assessed with CPA and got a positive outcome. So, please go through the skill requirements and obtain the school's syllabus. I don't really understand the issue with the job here. If the person didn't burn bridges, getting references and documents shouldn't be a problem (I presume) or he can make do with a statutory declaration. Thank you. If your courses (reason for requesting for school's syllabus) are in sync with the require [quote author=Tuteso post=61119776]My Oga and Gurus, 1 Like |

Thanks for the feedback. The person in question finished with a 3rd class in Accounting from the University of Ilorin. Most 4 year degrees from Unilorin are assessed as Associate degree ( like mine with ACS) and coupled with the 3rd class might be reason for matching it as Diploma. I am not sure the school's syllabus was submitted but based on experience, he will only get Associate degree ( not sure if same as Diploma.. lol) due to Unilorin being a Tier 2 according to AQF standard. toslad: |

I studied at Olabisi Onabanjo University and it was a four year course. If the person is assessing as an Accountant, he should go through CPA and CA sites to check the courses and ensure they are in tandem with the courses he did in school. Vetassess also assesses 4 year course as being equivalent to AQF so I understand his point/concern. Also, I do not think the class of degree matters during the assessment (I stand to be corrected). He should review the courses as earlier advised and go ahead with his assessment. Tuteso: |

bellong: Medical Administrator. Msc is to support the Bsc. It was gotten before work experience thus my reason. Also read somewhere that for M. D it's always good to have additional qualification. What do u think? |

I appreciate your support in this issue. I've communicated to him to get course outline, match each description on transcript to cpa courses. Hopefully with all the points covered, he will get a positive feedback. Also, I might b needing ur help to review before he submits for final assessment. Thank you once again and I will be getting in touch soon. toslad: |

Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by bellong: 10:45pm On Oct 05, 2017 |
junebaby: If it was before work experience, no issues. However, if the qualification is medicine, the MSc is unimportant as medical degree equates AQF Bachelor. @Toslad, OOU is actually grouped as Tier 1 University.. |

Unfortunately, the 476 visa is targeted to recent Engineering graduates from recognised universities under any of the 3 accord agreements who are younger than 31yo. Cheers Sherman1759: |

Hmmm, that's my point, Unilorin and this Tier 2 thing is a problem. I will be glad if @Praiseisgood confirms his school too. Or if anyone got assessment of a 4 year course degree, from a Tier 2 university, as a equal to Aussie bachelor's. bellong: @kingbukaz, yes, with ACS. |
Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by Hephziebah(f): 5:56am On Oct 06, 2017 |
You are correct on this cos I remember I came across the document when I was going to assess and only found OAU and UNILAG accounting degrees as being equivalent then(cant remember seeing UI, think they dont do accounting there). The thing is most accountants who apply for assessment are usually chartered so in my opinion, its the professional qualification that makes up for the BSc which eventually makes us assessed as equivalent of their own accounting degree. I remember I delayed my assessment for almost a year cos I wanted to get full membership of ACCA cos I was also scared of getting a negative assessment with only my BSc and ACCA associate qualification(maybe this was a bit overboard but I didn't want to take chances). Overall, I will say if the person is chartered, he can go ahead and assess. bhanjjie: |

bhanjjie: Hephziebah:Both assertions abi na assumption is not accurate. I know someone from madonna university who got AQF bachelor for his engineering degree, as bellong & toslad mentioned....OOU degree is also equivalent AQF Bachelor, none of the schools i mentioned is on your exception list. |

Hope my head no go scatter for this Tier1 and Tier2 thing. Can we just get the document? @Alphadoor, can it be all 5 year courses in a Tier 2 university are equivalent to AQF Bachelor and the 4 year courses are not while in Tier 1, either 5 year or 4 year courses are AQF Bachelor. I just tire... the ACCA or ICAN angle too hmmm. Alphadoor: 1 Like |

Yes, there is and you're on the right thread. So, read through and post your questions for experts in your field to give you the best guide. I've limited knowledge in the process; my knowledge is mostly limited to Engineering - Chemical and any other general information relating to Australia migration. @mamjaz would be able to help you as she's also a nurse looking to move to Oz. It's nice to know that you've done your research. It's possible to get your PR before the 18 months elapse by simply starting off your PR application using the guides on this thread even before you leave Nigeria. You'd be making a big mistake if your sole means of PR is the hope that an employer would sponsor you. I and few others on the thread first moved to Australia on 476, and now we are already permanent residents while few are closing in on that. For those I knew that started the PR process asap, it took 1yr maximum, with mine being the longest so far owing to my challenge in making band 8 in English. So, fear of getting your PR before the 18 months should be the least of your worries as that completely depends on you meeting the required skilled points; there are no external factors. Please note that the 476 visa is for only Engineering graduates of recognised universities in the accord agreements; Nigerian universities don't fall under this category. So, if you've just completed your degree in a Nigerian university, you won't be eligible unless you know a way around that. However, if your university is an eligible university, then you can apply using the steps outlined on an earlier page of this thread following the link below. https://www.nairaland.com/3053069/general-guide-australian-permanent-resident/21#46882995 If you do not qualify for 476, and are eager to move to Australia, then you should apply straightaway for the PR 189 or 190. You qualify for those. All you need is a minimum of 60 skilled points from your education (possible 15), age (possible 30 if you're 25 - 31yo) and English (possible 20 for band 8 ). Please do NOT ask me how to apply for PR as that's what this thread is fully committed to do. Just read the first 3 pages and you'd find all you need. Amahjosh: 1 Like |
