Mujtahida: Tactically, Rohr may not be up there amongst the best but his ability to instill team spirit, cohesion, discipline and hardwork is top notch. This is typical of German coaches and German teams. Rohr is just almost like Westerhof including tactically. 6 Likes |

Mujtahida: Since, all the goalkeepers will not be needed, it's expected to start grooming our next generation of goalkeepers and I think it better Alampasu goes to gain experience than Ezenwa who is already old. In short, apart from Ezenwa's confidence, he is not good enough. 1 Like |

Rohr Line Up Russian-Nigerian Defender Idowu As Replacement For Injured Echiejile Super Eagles left full back Elderson Echiejile has been ruled out of Nigeria’s final World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie against Algeria in Algiers after picking up a hamstring injury in their 1-0 win over Zambia last weekend. Echiejile went off injured late in the game, and was replaced by Chelsea full back Ola Aina, and recent test suggest he will spend at least four weeks on the sidelines as he work his way back to full fitness. The length of time he will be out has lead to coach Gernot Rohr of the Super Eagles casting a glance at Russian-Nigerian defender Brian Idowu. Idowu plays for Russian side Amkar Perm, and even though he qualifies to represent Russia, he was interested in switching allegiance to Nigeria before their first game against Algeria. Issues concerning owning a Nigerian passport stopped him from honouring the call to represent Nigeria who are already through to the World Cup courtesy of their 1-0 win over Zambia last weekend. Icon4s: Ok I have to strongly disagree here. There was a game we were playing, I think it was against Algeria in 2005? Westerhof was in the NTA studios, immediately the team sheet was released he analysed the games and told us how it would pan out and the number of goals Nigeria would score in the first half and bam it happened. In the second half too he said he expects Martins speed to be a bonus plus other things he said and there we go it happened that way. Westerhof after 4 years built a team that was easily outplaying Bulgaria and most of the teams on the African continent, trust me after 4years our team would still be dragging with Zambia. German coaches as a matter of fact do not dwell on team spirit/maintaining the same team etc etc (cc Joachim Low, Jurgen Klinsman and Klopp), these people depend on their tactical nous and their ability to get players to play to their formation, that is why teams like Germany and USA under Klinsman can field an entirely different 11 and still maintain the same identity, the only day we failed to name 3 of our starters we were playing kick and follow football. I applaud Rohr for his all round man-management skills but comparing him tactically to Westerhof is just not true |

TheGoodJoe: he had an average game, not poor game. True he failed to put away some chances but atleast he got those chances. Against Algeria Mikel was there, but Nacho was not even getting in the right passing lanes all game long, against SA granted Mikel wasn't there but still Nacho was making impossible runs. The fact that Ighalo actually got into this positions shows an upgrade, a serious upgrade on Nacho. About Ighalo not pressuring, that was the low point of his game |

THROWBACK It's like forgiveness has infected me with this foreign born virus. Safarigirl here's your boy(though it's old news but it gives us insight into what might be. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HOW ROHR CONVINCED ME TO DUMP BELGIUM FOR SUPER EAGLES-Dessers Ifreke Inyang 3 months ago Cyril Dessers has revealed details of his conversation with Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, which convinced him to opt for Nigeria instead of Beligum. Dessers says Rohr told him in clear teams to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria, if he wants to challenged the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa and Olanrewaju Kayode, for a spot in the national team. The 22-year-old accepted the German tactician’s challenged and has already voiced his preference for the Eagles. “Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa are the two undisputed men in my position, not forgetting Olarewaju Kayode who plays for Austria Wien. After them there’s a spot. I did had contact with the coach some few weeks back and he advise me to take a step higher. Hence my move to Utrecht to prove myself worthy of selection for Nigeria,” he told Sports/Football Magazine. “I will be happy to play for either Nigeria or Belgium, but playing for Belgium is a little bit complicated, as all the strikers in front of me above 30 years and might all leave in the next three years, I would have been patient for an opportunity, but that is not the case. “The World Cup 2018 is around the corner. If I score 20 goals for Utrecht and one of the strikers missed out through injury, I might have a chance. I hope my dream of wearing the Nigeria shirt draws near in few months time.” Source:https://www.google.com.ng/amp/dailypost.ng/2017/07/04/rohr-convinced-dump-belgium-super-eagles-dessers/amp/ |

Mickael2: See, the principle is same all across. You don't tamper with the set up of the team at random. If the team is not getting results you can chose to overhaul but when the team is getting results you try as much as possible to maintain shape so as not to lose balance. This is a simple principle in coaching. I have worked with Westerhof (I learnt coaching from him) and I know what I mean by he not being much different from Rohr in terms of tactical approach to games and team selection. If the NFF wants to get any of those coaches you listed then they should be ready to shoulder the huge financial responsibility. I have said it that Rohr, tactically is not amongst the bests but the other things he brings to the team have carried the team thus far. Then also remember that Club football is different from national team football. And remember also that it took Westerhof 5 years to build that team that featured at the 1994 World Cup and I completely disagree with you that the current crop cannot dominate African opposition. We are working towards that and we will get there but remember also that football has generally progressed in Africa. You can hardly dominate for too long. |

Mickael2:True talk, tactically d two cannot be compared.I remember Bonfrere Jo was doing it tactically for Westerhoff but i don't know much of Rohr back room staff may be they are equal to d tasks. Michael2 did u notice that there was little drama when Onazi got injured against Zambia,d original plan was for Aina to come in and Shehu Abdullahi move to d midfield but Rohr changed his mind and Agu came in but it nearly cost us in d 1st half-hour Rohr need to improve on his conservative approach to games coz he is too predictable. |

Mickael2: Against Algeria, the coach pointed Iheanacho as the key to the win. Nacho was not getting chances because he was attracting players to himself and creating room for others including Victor Moses to shine. Nacho was key. Unlike some myopic analysis, Nacho had a good game. Earned praise from the opponents manager and a reputable journalist (who took his time to break down how Nacho impacted the game). Just that some bias people will not even want to learn that their opinions of Nacho's performance against Algeria was wrong when they thought Nacho had a poor game. That point is invalid. If Nacho had Ighalo's game, you in particular will criticise it. Your critique of Nacho's Algerian game despite playing well highlights this. 1 Like |

jihday: Iheanacho was caged but with his precise and incisive movements, he created room for the team to shine. Earning praise from the Algerian's manager. That is not anonymous. Yet, just like you are doing now, you are criticising Nacho for playing well and trying to shield Ighalo for an even far worse performance. That is bias. 2 Likes |

jihday: Why not say there are no coaches who tinker with their selections of personnel and formations, let me show you others do. Even Rohr who has mixed his style has switched personnel positions, changed his formations and even squad selections in the few games he has handled. |

Icon4s:Truly not much difference but they cannot be compared coz i remember Bonfrere Jo was doing a lot for Clemens tactically and it was obvious but i don't know of Rohr may he has someone doing it for him too Yes club football is totally different from national team football and cannot be compared tactically.Rohr already has his team and they are doing well,so to tamper with d team w not be easy especially on d verge of making it to d WC. I see Rohr as a very conservative coach that need assistance in area of tactics coz i w not deceive u d team has been playing as a compact team which i understand. I believe before WC things w take shape and we w see a better and balance team |

Icon4s: In the game against Zambia when Rohr opted I think to pull out Iheanacho and replace with Kayode, that was when I noticed how limited his tactical and technical crew was. That was a wrong call. I agree with Mickael2 that Rohr is limited tactically and his conservative approach (although we showed more bravery against Zambia) to the Camerounian game in Yaounde showed this too. My advice to Rohr is to get Amunike into his back room staff. I wonder why the NFF dropped Amunike. Just like how they dropped Shorunmu. The back room staff needs strengthening. Having more tactical depth to the side will give Rohr more options and even a more flexible approach to games. |
