aribisala0: OK fine until everything perfectly equal you won't believe it. We shouldn't bother comparing any other energy sources to each other because fossil fuels dwarf them. I'll let this one go. kunlesmiles: Safe with caveats in place mind you. If you don't want it your not alone I don't see the Russians managing for us forever. |

am really saddened by the comments am reading from the supposed 'enlightened minds ( considering the poor literacy level in d country what saddens me is not even the debacle on the safety of nuclear power plants because both arguments for and against have realistic and scientific facts that even world leading nuclear scientists are still deliberating on what saddens me is the inability to read and understand simple English articles and make intelligent arguments based on objective facts from the articles and not unintelligent sentimental arguments ( imagining someone equating wot the news is saying to Nigeria acquiring nuclear weapon) it was clearly stated in the article that the agreement is for the Russian company to build and operate the power plants. even if it was not stated there nuclear power plants operation is not like every day projects that any body or nation can decide they want to embark upon approval must be sort from the international atomic agency who will make sure all the safety requirements are adhered to before approval is giving even at that the agency will never approve the construction and maintenance of a nuclear plant to an inexperienced country without the supervision from an experiences nuclear power country ( or company) so the arguments of lack of maintenance is null and void and to that guy that said buhari brought down a satellite to do maintenance but refused to send it back to space cos of complain of lack of funds seriously needs to ask for a refund of all the school fees he/ she has paid cos the money is a total waste 1 Like 1 Share |

omoelerin1:There is a difference between having a nuclear power for electricity and being a nuclear armed state. Nigeria having a nuclear plant for electricity does not translate to building nuclear bombs those are two totally different pathways. 2 Likes |

RaptorX:Nuclear plant for electricity. Good as it is, unfortunately, it could be easily converted and used as weapon. That is one of its disadvantages. When US and UN accused saddam Hussein of Iraq, in 1996, of building nuclear power, he claimed it would be used for electricity generation. US failed to trust him, aware of the danger and threats it poses to the international security, Iraq was invaded. It was after the death of Hussein, that it became clear it was meant for electricity. I listened to former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in 2013, addressing the delegates from the United Nations Centre for Nuclear Energy, that 'when Nigeria have its nuclear energy it would be used solely for generating electricity.' India, Korea, pakistan e.t.c that are now in possession of atomic bombs, how do you think it was started? Do you think Russia or China would just decided to offer them assistance to build nuclear weapons in deviance of international treaty on arms control and disarmament? |

A nuclear reactor in Nigeria for the past 40 or so years Never knew too.... there's never been a reason to research on that issue though or do you think anyone would just start researching without reason Now you've piqued my interest, lemme go find out, thanks anyway. |

igbodefender: Mumu. A nuclear reactor is not a "nuclear research centre". Neither is it a "nuclear power plant". If you can't be bothered to even research that before posting, why should the Nigerian govt take any of you seriously? Empty vessels making noise. Anti-research dummies. |

igbodefender: Do you think NigerSat 1 is the first satellite in the world to ever go missing? You allergic-to-research people are just clowns. So dumb. Other countries have had similar experiences with technology but it has not filled them with self doubt and inferiority complex. Instead, it drives them to improve further. But you lot? You are hopeless. The first sign of distress in any issue you raise your hands in surrender and declare yourselves incapable and inferior. Pathetic set of people. The govt should simply ignore you hopeless people and go ahead with its agenda for development. Bunch of illiterates. 1 Like |

Originalsly: Oh shut your know-nothing trap. YOU are the embarrassment. China has huge solar farms which contribute 0.1% to her power needs, while she has nuclear, hydro and coal based power plants supplying the bulk of electricity there. Don't use ur brain before criticising what you know nothing about. Solar is extraordinarily expensive with little results by way of generating power, compared to nuclear energy. And countries are still building nuclear power plants till tomorrow, so stop typing garbage through your asss. |
