Talking point: When four four two magazine compiled a list of 100 greatest footballers not even a single African( not even the great George Opong Weah who in 1995 won the World best, the Ballon d'or and Apoty) not to talk of Nigerian was mentioned. However this list of football LEGENDS by the German based IFFHS contains at least five Africans, Rabah Madjer, George Weah, Lucas Radabe, Roger Milla and our own Kanu Nwankwo

WHO IS NIGERIA'S GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME? IFFHS Provides Answer (Full List 48 Legend Players)
Published: November 03, 2017
Football statisticians, International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), has published on its official webpage the 48 football legend players.
Of the 48 legends of the game picked by the German-based organization, only one Nigerian, former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu, made the prestigious list.
Other famous names selected are Diego Maradona (Argentina), Pele (Brazil), Ronaldo (Brazil), Roger Milla (Cameroon), Zinedine Zidane (France), Gerd Muller (Germany), Roberto Baggio (Italy), George Weah (Liberia) and Ruud Gullit (Netherlands).
Kanu became the only Nigerian to win the African Player of the Year award twice when he scooped the accolade for 1999 after winning it in 1997.
The striker helped Nigeria win the 1993 Fifa U17 World Cup and 1996 Olympic gold medal in football.
He won the Champions League with Ajax Amsterdam in 1995, UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1998, three Eredivisie titles, two Premier League titles and the FA Cup three times.

You should know that these strict laws and tags only hold when they are trying to keep certain players that don't have the prerequisite flashy resume from the National team, these laws are relaxed when their favorite players get caught in the Web.

As at the 2016-2017 season, millway were in league one but komekn who is known to have strict policies as regards national team invites as it relates to the league a player plays was gracious enough to reduce his standard for a certain fred onyedinma.

Kanu blasts cash wins games in NNL, alleges govt clubs bully private clubs

By admin -
November 5, 2017

Nwankwo Kanu has raised serious concerns over the officiating in the second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL), alleging that clubs owned by government have the cash to get more favourable refereeing than a team like Papilo FC, who he bankrolls .

He told SCORENigeria that privately owned clubs like his are being muscled out by the financially heavyweight government clubs, saying that development is not good for the league and football generally in Nigeria.

“It has been a very difficult journey in terms of results as regards officiating,” former Nigeria captain Kanu said.

“What I see in this league is that if you have enough money, then you can win games.

“And if it so, there is no need for us trying to invest and bringing up a team.

“This is because if you bring up a good team, here I’m talking about going to the grassroot to help the young ones to come up and perform.

“And if these young ones are not being encouraged by officiating, then it means we are going back to square one.

“Because for me, it is always good to play on an open environment where officiating will not favour or negatively affect any club.

“And this is not good for football and the league. That is the greatest problem that we do have”.

Kanu also informed SCORENigeria that his former club Arsenal are not involved in the running of his pet team, Papilo FC.

The former Gunner and ex Super Eagles captain said contrary speculations, he has no assistance from the North London club.

“Papilo FC are not into any deal with Arsenal,” he told SCORENigeria

“We don’t wear Arsenal jersey. When you talk of Arsenal, you talk of Kanu because I played for Arsenal and I’m also an Arsenal Legend.

“I’ve also been following Arsenal.

“But in terms of we having anything to do with Arsenal in terms of sponsorship or kitting endorsement, no, there is nothing like that.

“If we do, I won’t be here complaining. Perhaps, that could be on the way in future, you never can tell, but for now, they are not involved even in our academy or the football club.

“I’m the one running the club and the academy”.

Kanu should go to archive and read what killed great club like Leventis United,Iwuanyawu Nationale, BCC lion,Ranchers bees,Aflyufassam Rocks,Femo scorpion better for him to channel his money into academy and grassroots development.

Despite big cash with MKO Abiola,Emmanuel Iwuanyawu and good management from John Mastroudus, the trio were frustrated by government clubs.

Yes they might be... But you know he will like to test those on ground..

As for dressing room issues... That's my personally opinion.. You know sometimes players won't play for a coach especially coach that dropped a senior goalkeeper for a reserved one... And how influencial is the current goalkeeper in the team?...

That's bring about my submission about the dressing issues...

Ndidi nearly made the worst Premier league 11 of the season by football365.
He's the most dribbled past midfielder in the Premiership.
CENTRAL MIDFIELDER: Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace)
Criteria: Dribbled past, tackles
It won’t be surprising to anyone to see a couple of Crystal Palace players in this XI. In fact, if this wasn’t based on statistics then a case could be made for a few more to join Cabaye and Jeffrey Schlupp on this list. Only Wilfred Ndidi (2.7) has been dribbled past more times per game than Cabaye (2.2) this campaign. However, it is his shocking tackle statistics that edge the France international into the team – and we aren’t talking about his awful challenge on DeAndre Yedlin over the weekend. Ndidi has been let off by the fact he has completed 4.3 tackles per match in comparison to Cabaye’s woeful figure of 1.7. The stats are all the more surprising as Cabaye is seen as a player who will ‘get stuck in’.

What Ndidi has going for him is his high tackle success rate. Even at Genk, he had one of the highest tackle success rate in the Europa league. He's generally developing an odd reputation as a tackling machine.

DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA
COACH – WHY EAGLES
NEWBIE UZOHO WAS
DEMOTED TO B TEAM

Coach of Spanish La-Liga side Deportivo La
Coruna has explained the reason why newly
invited Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Odinaka
Uzoho was demoted to the B team of the La-
Liga outfit.
Uzoho kept goal in back to back La-Liga game
under sacked coach Pepe Mel but since the
appointment of Cristobal Parralo in caretaker
capacity Uzoho has failed to make the
matchday squad.
Parralo has settled for the experienced duo of
Przemyslaw Tyton and Costel Pantilimon, while
the Nigerian has been demoted back to the B
team who are campaigning in the third division
in Spain.

” The team is in a difficult situation right now,
and the coach feels it’s not the RIGHT TIME TO
THROW IN AN 18 YEAR old AT THE DEEP END”,
Spanish journalist Jonas told
Owngoalnigeria.com.

” He was asked about the demotion of Uzoho, I
think in one of his pre match conference shortly
after Uzoho was called up to the senior national
team of Nigeria and his explanation was same
like I said EARLIER.

” AT 18 HE HAS DONE WELL TO PROGRESS TO THE FIRST TEAM AFTER JUST SIX MONTHS MONTHS AT THE CLUB , NICE FOOTWORK AND GOOD REFLEXES BUT LANGUAGE IS A BIG BARRIER FOR HIM , because his Spanish isn’t UP THERE YET, and as you know COMMUNICATION IS KEY BETWEEN GOALKEEPER and DEFENDERS".

Getting dribbled often comes with the territory of putting tackles up and down.

He puts in a lot of work and was only behind Kante last season, i believe. If he keeps it up, he will move to a major club soon.

He relies on his tall legs to bail him out of tackles. If he was a foot shorter, he would have been sent off more than a couple of times.

As for getting a look in from big clubs, he could well get a look in but he will be deployed at CB not DM. Top clubs like DMs with good ball distribution and this has been Ndidi's weakest arsenal. His passing has a lot to be desired.
I think he could develop into a fine CB ala Vincent Kompany (who played as a DM during his days at Hamburg).

Mickael2, like most football analysts, I think you're underestimating the level of Nigerian players due to the football clubs they play or do not play for. A few years ago I published an article in a Naija daily regarding a peculiar Nigerian perspectives in football.

Take this for instance, when the Nigerian U-23 team lined up at the China Olympics soccer event final, the profile of the players could not have been more different from their Argentine counterparts:

At CD Argentina had Ezekiel Garay of Real Madrid, Nigeria had Dele Adeleye from the bench of dutch basement club Sparta Rotterdam. Just over a year ago, he was at Shooting Stars, oscillating between Division 1 and 2.

At LB, with the responsibility of marking the dreaded Leo Messi; yes Lionel Messi of Barcelona, was Chibuzor Okonkwo from Bayelsa United, a right footed player converted to LB.

In CM, where Argentina had Riquelme, Gago and Mascherano, arguably the best DM in the world at that time, Nigeria presented Ebenezer Ajilore of Mydjtilland and from the bench at Sparta, Sanni Kaita. A few years ago, Ajilore plied his trade at Ebiede Babes, a Lagos youth club.

But as the game unfolded, the confidence of the Nigerian players and the cautious approach their opponents showed, belied the reputation and CV of Argentina's players.

This effectively proved two things, if you can believe it:

(i) that the club status of the Nigerian players does not accurately reflect their real quality; and that

(ii) a new measure is urgently required to determine the quality of our players; one that is not entirely dependent on the judgement of European club managers whose philosophy of the game and needs, vis a vis their clubs, may not necessarily be in alignment with the development of the average Nigerian player, or the SE.

Don't worry, let's just hope that both KC and Rodrigo would start when we meet the Argies next week .... that would give us a good idea on the level of both players.

What is objectivity? Statistics is the easiest way to be objective.

Leicester has not done too well but based on stats. Ndidi is the top tackler in the league. That is what DMs do.
The job of a DM goes beyond tackling. Couqelin is just a replica of Ndidi. Same style, poor passing and high energy level. He used to lead the Epl in tackles but he can't even get a game these days.

About long legs, you play with your attributes. That's football.

I can tell you that a team like Arsenal will do well with a DM that can tackle. Xhaka can pass (on his day) but his tackling is atrocious. Kante does not have the greatest distribution either.

Ndidi passing is average. It is not terrible. If he learns to keep it simple, he will play for a bigger team, soon.
