Good day all, Pls this issue had been given me sleepless nights so I decide to bring it here to hear your opinions and idvice.

I had been looking for admission for the past 4 years and luckily I finally got admitted into a federal university here were am reciding. The problem is; I had been the one taking care of my self and also assist my family with the salary I was earning from the company were I work. Due to economic reasons I wasn't able to save money after paying bills for myself and some of my family (I'm single, lives alone but my Mum & siblings live not to far from my residence). The only money I'll be falling back on if I quit my Job is the gratuitee and Pention.

So, I'm seeking your mature advice, Should I quit Work & Focus on Schooling? Pls help a brother. Thanks in advance

If you don't have an adequate financial backing,I will advise you get a school where you do part-time studies while you work. That's your best bet especially because your family also benefits from you.

Depends on what career you have in mind for yourself.
I was exactly in your shoe 9 years ago.
Look at me now, what I earn in a month is more than fifteen times what I would be earning if I were still there.
No pain no gain.
Take the plunge and see where you land.

Why not enroll for a part-time programme in the university...at least you won't loose both sides.. You can still be working and use the salary to carter for your education and personal needs... That is what many business guys are doing now ...at the end you still get your degree certificate...That's my candid advise.

Thanks you sir for your input, but the school I applied don't offer part time for 100 level and age is not on my side.

My brother,it is going to be a hard decision especially in Nigeria of today where the future is bleak. Have you thought abt the possibility if combining both? It will be tedious but since you have been in the job for years, you should be able to manovouer your ways. If not,part-time studies will have been much better. I can't advise you to quit that job oo. It ain't easy.

Talk to one your boss,a matured woman more preferable. She will talk to you like a son. God will guide you.

If you take up the full-time offer, how will you fund it?

I was thinking about setting up a business with the 25% of pension I'll be paid if I quit my job..but..I'm still skeptical about the idea & I don't even have a business idea yet

You can either look for a school close to where you stay and run a part time studies or leave your job start the schooling while you look for a business on campus to do.
I will not advice you to stay with that 55k job since you don't have a first degree or the business(company) is not yours. You are prone to downsizing with your first degree.
Assuming the business is yours, I will simply advice you stay and grow the business but since you are employed there your wages can grow only in arithmetic progression considering your present salary, the rate of salary growth won't be able to cope with the rate of growth of your demands when you start having your own family.

open your ear lobes and listen carefully. there are no jobs anywhere.

if you really want to develop your self academically or have a certificate, go for part time studies and continue your work.

Factors to consider:
1) Your current age.
2) Your position in the family
3) If you have other options or relatives to foot your school bills in case you quit and run out of cash.
4) The educational requirements for the job position you currently occupy or intend to occupy.
5) If your school has part-time option.
6) Your aspiration as a grown up
7) Lastly, the fact that Nigeria under Buhari has no job opportunities or jobs that pay graduates #55,000 not to talk of non-graduates.

Education matters in the current society but bro, money matters more. Going to school without making money at the end will make a joke out of you.

If you must school, go for NOUN.

Be wise!

How old are you? Who is going to give you gratuity or pension if you have not reached retirement age? Stop dreaming bro. Don't quit the job. You can go to school and still keep your job. Back then in my undergraduate days in Nigeria (Uniben) I had far older classmates that were working. It was very tough but they made it.

Don't let anyone deceive you to quit your job. I know how difficult it is in Nigeria, please keep your job.

If it's admission you are seeking; please don't quit your work...
It is very hard to get work these days but easy to get admission, forget the fact that you've been seeking admission for the past four years, it doesn't matter...
Do the think the tuition and pension can cover the expenses you aforementioned
Did you not think of the timeframe it will take you to get another job(If they'll be willing to you that much) after you graduate from school

My advice: Please don't live your work...

Do you have scholarship or have a sponsor? If no, please stay on the job and enrol in NOUN or part-time education. Too much people starting University education without clear financial plan.

Don't goan start school and comman be asking for help from Nairaland o!

Your salary is too small for the responsibilities you're carrying. You need to think of additional income sources. Schooling is an investment, but it takes long to pay!
