2018 World Cup : Fifa To Pay Chelsea N13.4 Million Compensation For Obi Mikel

Fifa will pay compensation to clubs for releasing their players to represent their national teams at the 2018 World Cup.

Starting from June 1, 2018, when the players included in the squad list must report to the training camp, Fifa will pay $8,530 per player per day (equivalent of N3,087,860.00) until they are knocked out of the competition whether or not they participated in the group games.

For the group stage alone, which ends with the Super Eagles facing Argentina on June 26, football's governing body will pay $221,780 for each player named in the Nigerian roster, and the sum would increase if Nigeria advance to the last sixteen.

It can be revealed that Premier League champions Chelsea will be compensated by Fifa to the tune of $36,963.34 (or N13.4 million) for their former player John Obi Mikel in the group stage.

The total amount per player is distributed to the all the clubs with which the player was registered in the last two years prior to the start of the 2018 World Cup.

One-third of the total amount is paid to the club the player represented from June 1- July31, 2018.
The total payment to the Nigerian national team players for the group stage is $5,100,940.00

Dutch Coach Blast – Benfica Bound Nigerian Defender Ebuehi Is Better Than The Right Back Of PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord

Respected Dutch footballer turned television pundit Hans Kraay Jnr has taken a swipe at Dutch league giants PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord for not noticing the talent of ADO Den Haag Nigeria international defender Tyronne Ebuehi .
Ebuehi will according to various reports join Portuguese giants Benfica in the summer after agreeing a five year deal, which will commence after the expiration of his contract with ADO Den Haag in the summer.

According to Kraay, the 22 year old who recently pledged his international future to Nigeria ahead of the Netherlands, and even made his debut for Nigeria in their 4-2 win over Argentina last year is better than the full backs of the top three teams in the Netherlands.

Kraay is furious that none of them took notice of his abilities before Benfica snapped him up. He also reckon that the market value of the full back will no doubt double if as expected he features for Nigeria at the World Cup.

” Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV feel asleep over the right back of ADO Den Haag Tyronne Ebuehi. If you really pay attention to that guy, then he is a class better than Jeremiah St. Juste of Feyenoord “, he said in an interview on voetbalzone.nl picked up by Owngoalnigeria.com.

” A better player player than Joel Veltman of Ajax and he could be a great replacement for Santiago Arias Naranjo of PSV Eindhoven. The scouts of Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV took the plane to the left. They should have gone right, because around the corner plays a fantastic right back”.

This is so unexpected. I mean, look at him smiling and all in that photo you shared. Could this be a heart issue? This is so shocking

With the way Collin Udoh described Ojo’s performance against EQ Guinea, Rohr might consider him for a place, at least, amongst the initial 30-man WC list.

The more quality midfield options, the better for the full Super Eagles. Of course, if he is named in the final 23-man list, he won’t be a starter.

If a local player performs well in the under 20 WC, it will do far more for the club than CHAN.

Some of our players have reached the age where they are not going abroad again.

You are forgetting stadium patronage and memorabilia purchase. Fans can now know who they are going to watch at these local matches and that will give them a connection. The players are the most important asset of any league and with the right marketing they can generate funds through merchandise. If Kano Pillars came out with 1000 Rabiu Ali T-shirts they would probably sell out the same day.

Forgive my ignorance here, but why will Chelsea be paid for Mikel's service at the WC? is he still part of them ni??

A big "IF" that is.... I think we should not get too far ahead of ourselves here. Dayo Ojo is a fine player but he won't make the 23-man list. I even doubt his place in a provisional 30.

In our midfield, the sure bankers for Russia are Mikel, Ndidi, Onazi and Ogu.

Fighting for a place are Etebo, Agu, Nwakali C., Joel Obi and outside contenders like Ajagun, Raheem Lawal, Azubuike Okechukwu, etc....

Dayo Ojo could be in the 30 though by a wild chance but like I already said, I doubt it.

Let them get pass Angola to ensure Rohr really takes notice because the Main Super Eagles is really high quality compared to the home based team. No discredit to the home based lads... I just speak of the quality here.

And I think it was Ed Dove and not Colin based on the article I posted. Or do you refer to some other news article?

Ideye Bids Farewell To Mikel, Tianjin Teammates, Set For Malaga Move
By David Meshioye

Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye bid fellow Nigerian Mikel Obi and other Tianjin Teda teammates farewell on Thursday as he got set for a six-month loan deal with LaLiga club Malaga.

Sports.sina.com.cn reported that Ideye was not listed as Teda lost 2-1 to Kickers Offenbach in the club’s winter training match in Marbella, Spain, as the club continued their build-up towards the new Chinese Super League season.

The Chinese outlet had revealed that Malaga was in serious negotiations with Tianjin Teda regarding a loan deal for the Nigerian before this January transfer window closes.
Malaga and Tianjin Teda finally agreed a loan deal for Ideye on loan to end speculations surrounding the player’s future at the Chinese side.

He endured a torrid time at Teda since joining the Chinese Super League club from Olympiacos.

Tianjin Teda paid Olympiakos €12m euros to land Ideye in 2016 but he has struggled to get into the first team competition since last summer.

Malaga currently have 11 points in the 2017/2018 La iga table and are in last place .

Ekpo: Home Eagles Must Improve Before CHAN Q/Final Vs Angola
By James Agberebi

Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has stated that the home-based Super Eagles must expect a very difficult game against Angola in the quarter-finals at the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Angola was confirmed as Nigeria’s opponents in the quarter-final which comes up on Sunday in Tangier following their 0-0 draw against Congo on Wednesday in Group D.
The home Eagles topped Group C after defeating already eliminated Equatorial Guinea 3-1 in their last group game on Tuesday.
Reacting to the quarter-final pairings, Ekpo who was in the Super Eagles that held Angola to a 2-2 away draw in 1989 during the qualifiers for the 1990 World Cup, urged the Home Eagles improve in their play.

“First and foremost, congratulations to the team for doing us proud and topping their group,” the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal winner told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“Having said that, if they (Home Eagles) really want to go past the Angolans, they must up their game. They must do better than what they did in their last two games because the Angolans are not pushovers, they fight to the last.

“In their last group game (against Congo), they wanted to win the game but it didn’t work out for them.”

The former Iwuanyanwu Nationale star added in a chat with CSN: “I would want our players to start the game according to how the coach has planned it. They should move the ball quickly. I want to see us do more better, get to the semi-final and even lifting the cup.

“If you look at the Moroccans and the Zambians, they play better, even the Libyans too. We all saw how they qualified for the quarter-finals, they fought until they got the goal against Rwanda, unfortunately it is difficult to see that in our team.”

Nigerian CB Looking Forward To The Biggest Game Of His Career Vs Manchester United

Nigerian central defender Omar Sowunmi is looking forward to unarguably the biggest game of his career when his team Yeovil Town face Manchester United in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup on Friday night.

Manchester United have in their ranks new signing from Arsenal Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, but Sowunmi is confident that he can hold his own against these top strikers.
''I’m very excited for the game! It will be a good test for all the boys and probably the biggest club most of the boys have come up against,'' said Omar Sowunmi to allnigeriasoccer.com .

''I have faced none of the players Sanchez, Lukaku and Martial so far in my career, so I am looking forward to it.''

Sowunmi missed Yeovil Town's third round clash vs Bradford City due to suspension but is set to return to the squad for today's tie at Huish Park.

The 22-year-old was named in the starting line-up against Southend United and Port Vale in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup.

LMC has started posting the highlights of week 1 games on their twitter page. Kudos to them..

1.Number 1 ridiculous penalty awarded against Enyimba when they travelled to Lobi:

http://twitter.com/LMCNPFL/status/956609090075156480?s=09

2. After seeing the video, i believe that the last minute penalty against Kano Pillars in week 1 was a valid penalty. Though the straight red to Kano Pillars was suspect.

The CHAN tourney is just like disarming the strong men and arming the weak men and asking them to fight.

Nigeria remains the only West African team left in the tournament. West Africa has the highest export of quality players to other parts of the world. So it is no surprise that they have presented poor teams in this tournament.

Imagine a team like Namibia beating Ivory Coast, Rwanda drawing with Nigeria, Cameroon cannot win a single game in a group that has Congo, Angola and Burkina Faso. Ghanaian, Senegalese, and Malian teams even crashed out in the qualifiers

Now, the problem is this CHAN has been awarded a ranking point of 3 which is exactly same as that of the regular AFCON. This is a serious dis-service as so many weak teams would gain points and become highly ranked. While the real heavy weights themselves especially those from West Africa will really lose ranking points.

The rankings would become pseudo. When you see teams like Namibia, Libya, Angola, Congo and Sudan really limping over some heavy weights you understand what I am talking about.

Many pages back we were talking about how Nigeria can move to top 10 in the World. But with a tournament like CHAN it is not likely that any African team can make it because with this kind of tournament, the heavy weights will continue to struggle. For eg we have lost about 30 ranking points already with that draw with Rwanda.

You don't gain or lose any points for not participating in this CHAN tournament.
Egypt does not take part in CHAN. Could that be a smart decision?

This CHAN tournament. I am still scratching my head.

But didn't we gain points for the wins against Libya and EQG, don't just paint the part of the picture that suits your narrative that's just misrepresenting the facts.

The same way an Iceland can leapfrog an Italy if they do well at the World Cup.

The FIFA ranking with the main Eagles is non issue to them but with CHAN Eagles is an issue.

After playing all our group games our current rankings points is about 30+ below the previous month's. The draw against Rwanda did the damage. We didn't gain much points from beating Libya and E. Guinea because they are poorly ranked teams.

You gain good points when you beat a team ranked above you.

You know the FIFA ranking is used for seeding of teams in both FIFA and CAF organized tournaments.

And I am sure you know the importance of seedings.

I am sure you also know that we have always shown concerns about the rankings when the Super Eagles play. So because the CHAN team is playing we should look away and not think of rankings?
