kellycute: the convo has gone deeper than that. First of all what is an SS? An SS depends on the system you are playing, we have a Second Striker and then a Support Striker, Iheanacho is a Support Striker and not a Second Striker and a support striker is not a striker, he is just supporting the striker hence the name. Then playing a 4-2-3-1 does not mean you cannot have two people up top. It depends on the style of play of that AMF/SS in the hole. If he is a player like Isco who likes operating through the wings then one of the smfs will have to drift in to make the attack two pronged. But if the AMF/SS is someone who likes scoring and occupying a striker's position then it automatically turns into a two-pronged attack, I mean against Zambia Iheanacho was virtually a striker with Ideye so saying Diabate was playing up top with Iheanacho is not false. Then going further, Iheanacho has performed better in a two pronged attack. Even after yesterday's game, one of my friends said the guy is better when given a free role, a striker cannot be given a free role when he is leading the attack. See, scoring does not equate to having a good game, Iheanacho's better games have been as a SS, sometimes as a striker, no, most times as a striker he does not perform, yes he may score but he does not generally perform. 2 Likes |

tbaba1234: A potential left back..........Yes with more exposures. His dashing moves forward to help the attack was commendable but he leaves spaces at the back which Angola couldn't capitalise on. His defending was okay (6.5/10) For the A team.............No he's just average and he might cause problem for the team when he supports the attack except he'd just be a sit back LB then he might do well. |

tbaba1234:epp me tell Mickael2 o, what is the point of a striker that does not score? Kelechi had a rating of 8.9 in that game, he was the second highest rated player and maybe he would have been higher if oga Puel did not take him off. If a striker likes, he can join build up play, he can defend and have the highest tackles, but if he fails to score, he no try 5 Likes |

But scoring and playing well aren't exactly the same, if not Morata would be in madrid right now. Benzema is no goalscorer but he plays a lot better than Morata hence he gets the nod time and again. Like I said, a striker's bad game can be masked by one or two goals but that does not change what it is, a bad game. tbaba1234: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 8:29am On Jan 29, 2018 |
safarigirl: just browse Benzema and there you will see the need of a striker who does not score. He sacrifices his goalscoring ability to be able to bring other players(CR7 most especially) into the game, he has 3UCL medals because of that and he played crucial roles in all of them, most times without scoring. This is not a knock on Iheanacho, if he continues scoring in that CF role then nobody will complain, but the problem here is that the day he will not score, the entire press will come at him for repeated bad performances. NB: I said most times, not all the time. 2 Likes |

Chief Icon4s How were we going round in circles? Can't you see that one was doing his very best to keep the lies coming against that young mam called Nacho. Every time Nacho scores and does well, Goldfish cringes and gnashes.... #Fact Or how else do you explain an attempt to debate what formation Leicester played yesterday confirmed by all who watched and by all known reputable sites like Squawka, WhoScored, Goal.com and more? Firstly , Leicester played a 4-2-3-1 and Nacho's goals prove it over and over again based on the positioning of the players for the most parts..... These deliberately blind bats led by Goldfish80 just wanna argue nonsense for argument sake. They got nothing sound at all. It is just a deliberate attempt to twist the truth. Also, Goldfish80 proved himself a Neanderthalic coward by not owing up to what an SS means.... He also could not show me where I agreed with him by saying Nacho is NOT a striker.... Abeg, Is a support Striker not a striker? or abi support striker can CM shey? He is very laughable. Looooollllll lolll Saying someome has a Best position, abeg does is not mean he has alternative positions too? Please who did Positive, Comparative and Superlative in School back then? Seems Old man Goldfish80 needs a recall? It is really shameful to see a grown mam like him dodge the truth and defecate on himself when presented obvious facts..... He doesn't even understand grammes anymore. He proved himself dumb. Sorry to say. And ofcos, Mickael2 and Komekn will agree with him.... very super predictable... they all belong to Tue house of Foolery and negativity directed towards a special Player like Nacho. Most sites will class Support Striker with Second striker also.... they are both similar.... and I won't take anyone's words for it but use the various definitions available on the internet from other people who understand the beautiful game and not truth-bending, facts-twisting lots like Goldfish80 and Mickael2 (not surprised... he cannot tell the truth when it comes to Nacho to save his own skin. If he were asked to choose between giving up his life and admitting Nacho is a striker, he will choose death.. loolll Same was Goldfish80) Here is a report on the support striker role reported during the time Luis Suarez was at Liverpool - More to come soon..... You guys wanna play hide and seek with facts? I know that game so well... Facts will win out eventually and cheap name calling.... Ready to learn some more? Leggo.... this is like a slideshow hence its style of presentation. Definition 1 OF 11 So what's a "support striker?" Footballing roles are becoming increasingly hard to define, categorise and identify. Gone are the days when the word "midfielder" is enough to answer the question "which position do you play?" Just like a midfielder could be a box-to-box runner, a " regista," a classic No. 10 or an anchor, a striker could be a target man, a support striker or a prima punta. Here, we define the role as a player who operates in a forward line, usually of two or three, and drops deeper or wider to link the play. He's not the go-to guy for goals, but more a " seconda punta." He is classed as a striker, but will likely be found in line with an advanced midfield player and is comfortable on the ball. This article is about the top 10 support strikers playing right now, but for a classical example of this role look no further than Alessandro Del Piero. Antonio Cassano 2 OF 11 We kick off the list with one of the very best in the business, Inter's new acquisition Antonio Cassano. The Italian's most recent eye-catching display as a top-class support striker was Euro 2012, where he provided vital links from his midfield through to Mario Balotelli throughout the tournament. His incredible work rate and clever movement made the task a lot easier for his striking partner, as without him Riccardo Montolivo's inadequacies in playing at the point of a midfield diamond would have been exposed to a global audience. Cassano can pull wide, win flick-ons and keep it simple in possession. He's Edinson Cavani's dream partner. Luis Suarez 3 OF 11 Brendan Rodgers is playing Luis Suarez as a central striker out of necessity, not choice. It's common consensus that his favoured position is not as an out-and-out striker, but as some kind of free-flowing hybrid between poacher, winger and attacking midfielder. Uruguay enjoyed considerable success in the 2010 World Cup and the subsequent 2011 Copa America thanks to a partnership between Suarez and Diego Forlan. Forlan grabbed all the goals, but it was his compatriot who did the hard yards, linked the play and created the chances. Suarez's work rate is astounding, while his striker's instinct sees him to the right position at the right time. Lionel Messi 4 OF 11 What position does Lionel Messi even play? He's utilised the false nine spot for almost two seasons now, but has frequently found himself anywhere across the front line throughout his career. Being the world's best current false-nine automatically makes him one of the top support strikers. When he plays in conjunction with Alexis Sanchez—who at times, confusingly, is deployed as a false 10—his link up play is second to none. He rarely loses the ball, shrugs off challenges and can pass while running at full speed. Perhaps best of all, he attracts the attention of two, three even four defenders at times, leaving his striker partner one vs. one with the last centre-back. Ezequiel Lavezzi 5 OF 11 Antonio Cassano might be Edinson Cavani's dream, but Ezequiel Lavezzi was more than a serviceable replacement during their time together at Napoli. The Argentine hotshot, who has just joined Paris Saint-Germain in a shudderingly expensive deal, showed the world how classy his movement can be against Chelsea last season in the UEFA Champions League. Even the Stamford Bridge outfit—who went on to become known for their defensive stubbornness during the tournament—couldn't deal with the playmaker, whose runs in and around the box were borderline impossible to resist. Stevan Jovetic 6 OF 11 Fiorentina were awfully busy during the summer, but their most prized asset once again evaded the reaches of the big boys. Stevan Jovetic has come back from a serious injury and fulfilled his potential amidst fears he wouldn't quite reach the levels expected. Manchester City, among others, have been credited with an interest in him and rightly so—he can pass, dribble and score from just about anywhere. He's a real live wire with the ball at his feet and you never quite know what he's going to do with it, making him extremely difficult to play against. David Villa 7 OF 11 David Villa moved to Barcelona and struggled immensely for several months. Why? He used to be a poacher, and his days at Valencia taught him to be the prima punta in his team—a role in which he would exclusively score goals, and not a lot else. Barcelona asked him to become more than just a finisher, and believed he had the talent to become an elite all-round forward. Moving to the left-wing allowed Lionel Messi to play centrally and have Villa play more of an influential part in the build-up play. It's a marker for how drastically (and successfully) he changed his game when, as it became clear he would not feature at Euro 2012, many asked how Spain's entire forward line would cope, not just where the goals would come from. Wayne Rooney 8 OF 11 Wayne Rooney has played a variety of positions at Manchester United as the star comings and goings force him to change his role in the side season on season. Last season, in Sir Alex Ferguson's 4-4-1-1, Rooney played a deeper role and then went on to feature the same way for Roy Hodgson's England. His form for England was poor, but his performances for United were fantastic. He's selfless, he's quality on the ball and he's clever enough to get back into a striker's position when necessary. Sergio Aguero & Carlos Tevez 9 OF 11 Although Sergio Aguero clearly thrives as a striker latching onto through-balls and lingering in the box, his earlier years playing football brought out a slightly different side of him. He's always been capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, and finds it easy to drop off the front line. Carlos Tevez, too, is adept at switching wide or dropping into midfield. With Roberto Mancini's 3-5-2, Tevez is the striker who floats side-to-side and drifts away from the prima punta in Mario Balotelli. In fact, look for him to become Balotelli's Antonio Cassano from Euro 2012, but in a City shirt, as long as Aguero is injured. Together, they form a fearsome Argentine combo who regularly torment defences by switching roles, which is the reason I've coupled them in this article. Mario Mandzukic 10 OF 11 Mario Mandzukic represents a different type of support striker and that's why he's squeezed onto this list. His move to Bayern is no less than he deserved, but no one can be completely sure of how good he can become. What he does do is link play well to the forward line, run until the tank is empty and score goals himself. Croatia's 1-1 draw against Italy in Euro 2012 saw Mandzukic instructed to man-mark Andrea Pirlo without the ball, then break free and supply balls forward when his team is in possession. Yep... still on Support striker/Second Striker.... Got no more time for silly banters with a lying coward.... reply facts with facts then we can talk further... looollll... Goldfish80's exposition as a liar really not going down well with him.. he brings out what has been in him alp along... his animalistic nature... hiding and waiting for the right trigger to unleash it... it just had to be me... I put negative fellas like him in their dirty ugly places not with guns but with the weapon of facts.... Goldfish80, sorry, Pele okay... You lost From wiki... The truth hurts our dear negative lots... Second striker Deep-lying forwards have a long history in the game, but the terminology to describe their playing activity has varied over the years. Originally such players were termed inside forwards, creative or deep-lying centre-forwards. More recently, two more variations of this old type of player have developed: the second, or shadow, or support, or auxiliary striker and, in what is in fact a distinct position unto its own, the number 10, exemplified by Diego Maradona , who is often described as an attacking midfielder or the playmaker . The second striker position is a loosely defined and most often misapplied description of a player positioned somewhere between the out-and-out striker, whether he is a "target-man" or more of a "poacher", and the Number 10 or attacking midfielder, while possibly showing some of the characteristics of both. In fact, a coined term, the "nine-and-a-half", has been an attempt to become a standard in defining the position. Conceivably, a Number 10 can alternate as a second-striker provided that he or she is also a prolific goalscorer; otherwise, a mobile forward with good technical ability ( dribbling skills and ball control) and link-up play, who can both score and create opportunities for a less versatile centre-forward, is more suited. Second or support strikers do not tend to get as involved in the orchestration of attacks as the Number 10, nor do they bring as many other players into play, since they do not share the burden of responsibility, functioning predominantly as assist providers. In Italy, this role is known as a "rifinitore" or "seconda punta", whereas in Brazil, it is known as "segundo atacante" or "ponta-de-lança". How far can CHAN Eagles wobble and fumble? By admin - January 29, 2018, 8:19 am The flaws in this CHAN Eagles are alarming. A lot of questions hanging on the competence of the coaches. I don’t want to dwell on the players’ shortcomings. Much said already. But those who file them out should get some knocks. I was utterly embarrassed seeing Mano carve our defence open at will. I studied this team during the group stage and identified him as their go-to guy, alongside Job. I expected Salisu Yusuf and his assitants to do the needful and keep him quiet. But there was no conscious effort to stop him. There was no perceived effort to detail specific players with that assignment. Even if no particular player was put on him, there should have been a ploy to stiffen him by, perhaps having more personnel in middle of the park to starve the opposition of possession and cut his supplier. I just get this feeling that these boys were just pushed out there. No effort to do things differently. I get the impression of a poorly guided team. What Angola will bring against Eagles I knew the Angolans are profligate in front of goal. If you read my scouting report again, you will observe I pointed out that their conversion rate is low compared to their possession-based game. They didn’t disappoint me. They should have taken that game far beyond the Eagles long before the equaliser came. Va isn’t just potent enough. Then we had an inspired goalkeeper who kept us in the game. This result is flattering. You remember when Thijs Libregts was sent on a rescue mission to the U20 team at Nigeria 99? After the wobbling and fumbling team was bundled out by Mali in the quarter-final, Libtegts had exclaimed; “the disease killed the patient”. This team is ill. We hope the disease doesn’t ultimately kill it. If this patient dies, some of us won’t be surprised. We are merely praying for some form of miraculous healing. Let’s be FRANK…This team hasn’t shown what it takes to weather the storms now that the jungle has really matured. Sudan is waiting just as a potential final against the hosts. It takes more than trial and error to nick the ultimate prize. Those boys need proper GUIDANCE… By Clement Nwankpa Jr http://scorenigeria.com.ng/2018/01/29/how-far-can-chan-eagles-wobble-and-fumble/ |

TheSuperNerd: is it not funny that in the bleacher report article you posted they said clearly that 'He is classed as a striker, but will likely be found in line with an advanced midfield player and is comfortable on the ball'. That means he is far far from being a striker, he is a pseudo midfielder as much as he is a pseudo striker which is what I already explained but since you want to believe that they are all the same then no problem. And what Goldfish80 has been implying all along is that Iheanacho is not a CF, there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between CF and a striker you know right? What are you then arguing? |
