Iwobi To Argentina Stars : We Will Beat You Again At World Cup Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi is confident that the Super Eagles have a team that can beat Argentina at the 2018 World Cup. In November 2017 in Krasnodar, the Hale End Academy product was the star man in Nigeria's 4-2 win over the South Americans, who were without the best player on the planet Lionel Messi. Iwobi has argued that the Super Eagles were also missing several key players, including Victor Moses (Chelsea), Eddy Onazi (Trabzonspor), Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai), Elderson Echiejile (Monaco) and Moses Simon (Gent), when both teams met in Southern Russia. ''Argentina were missing their star man (Lionel) Messi, but we were also missing some of our players. We are confident we can repeat that at the World Cup,'' Iwobi told the BBC on Tuesday. ''We were unbeaten in the World Cup qualifiers and we are confident and have young talent, who want to prove themselves any time they are on the pitch.'' Iwobi scored one of the most important goals of his young career in a World Cup qualifier against Zambia on October 7, his 73rd minute winner ensured Nigeria booked her place in this summer's football festival in Russia. **Igho Kingsley Source: http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=26586 Russia 2018 WC Countdown: 120 days 7hrs to go 1 Like |

WC opponents Watch..... Spotlight On Super Eagles World Cup Opponents: Iceland’s Freekick Specialist Sigurdsson Completesportsnigeria.com brings you the lowdown on one of Iceland’s key men Gylfi Sigurdsson as we continue to focus the spotlight on Super Eagles Russia 2018 World Cup opponents… GYLFI SIGURDSSON Gylfi Sigurdsson is widely regarded as one of the best dead ball specialists in the English Premier League. Sigurdsson made his senior international debut for Iceland in 2010 and has since earned 55 caps, scoring 18 goals. He represented Iceland at their first major tournament, UEFA Euro 2016, where his country reached the quarter-finals. He is undoubtedly the biggest sports star in Iceland at the moment. Sigurdsson has been named Iceland Sportsperson of the Year on two occasions. He was first awarded the title in 2013, before making it a double in 2016 after helping his nation reach the quarter-finals in the European Championships for the very first time. He remains a contender for the next one considering his performance for his country during the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers. BEST POSITION: Sigurdsson’s best position is mainly off the main striker with two holding midfielders behind him which gives him the freedom to operate freely and drive forward. But he has featured largely from the flanks for Everton since his £45m move from Swansea at the start of the season. STRENGTHS: Set pieces are a big weapon for most teams in football today but with Sigurdsson in your team, you are guaranteed good delivery of the ball into the goal area. Sigurdsson is a dead ball specialist who also has an eye for goal. He also possesses the qualities of an archetypal No. 10, paired with an unusual physicality for the position. As a No.10, Sigurdsson makes great use of the space and he is also good at finishing from long distance. He can also assist with a pass. He scored eight goals and provided 13 assists last season as Swansea survived the drop. WEAKNESSES: Defending is an asset it comes to Sigurdsson’s game and he rarely carves scoring chances from open play for his team to score goals. STYLE: His impressive statistics from last season show he is a superb set-piece taker but his creative output is somewhat distorted by that fact. Sigurdsson possesses an exemplary threat from free-kicks or crosses within 25 to 30 yards of goal. NATIONAL TEAM STATS: Sigurdsson has 55 caps, 23rd on the all-time appearance list, since his debut for Iceland in 2010, and has also scored 18 goals providing ten assists for the national team. TESTIMONIALS: “Together with Henrik Larsson, I would say that Gylfi is the best team player I’ve worked with,” Lagerback said of the man Everton paid £45 million for. “He always plays for the team and must be one of the best two-way midfield players out there.” — Lars Lagerback, Former Iceland team manager. “Gylfi is just what you need when you need to change a game. You need a bit of genius. You need a bit of work from a player in the squad who can change a game and that’s what you get in him.” Sam Allardyce “He’s a top player. He adds to the quality in any squad and that’s what you want in the player of his calibre. All-in-all he’s come in and contributes to the team and that’s what you want from a player like him.”—- Gary Monk former Swansea manager. “I heard a lot of people say Gylfi is a 10, but he played most games last season on the left side at Swansea. They make stories out of nothing. Gylfi can play anywhere.” Former Everton manager Ronald Koeman. QUESTION: Do you feel the Super Eagles midfield led by Mikel Obi can stop Sigurdsson from causing damage? DID YOU KNOW? —Iceland national team is coached by Dr. Heimir Hallgrimsson — who is literally a practicing dentist. Hallgrimsson, is the first Icelandic coach to earn an A license coaching badge. —Iceland is the first country in World Cup history to have less than a million people and successfully qualify to compete on football’s biggest stage. Iceland’s population is a mere 334,252, with approximately one-third of the island’s people living in the capital of Reykjavik. —Iceland’s current goalkeeper, Hannes Halldorsson, was a film director before he turned professional as a goalkeeper. He directed the video “Never Forget” a song by Icelandic singers Greta Salóme and Jónsi for Iceland’s entry to the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. —Over the course of the last three English Premier League seasons, only four players have had more assists than Sigurdsson. Cesc Fabregas (37), Mesut Ozil (33), Christian Eriksen (32) Kevin De Bruyne (27)… and Sigurdsson (26). —Since he made his Premier League debut (2011), Gylfi Sigurdsson has scored more free-kick goals than any other player. The Icelandic international has scored seven goals from direct free-kicks in that period – one more than Robert Snodgrass, Eriksen and Juan Mata (all on six). Ezenwa Boost For Rohr, Eagles Keeper Resumes Training After CHAN Injury By Johnny Edward Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has been handed a major boost ahead of next month’s international friendlies against Poland and Serbia with the return of Ikechukwu Ezenwa to training, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Rohr’s men will take on Poland and Serbia on March 23 and March 27 respectively. Ezenwa suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Nigeria at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco. He revealed that he is working hard to be fit for club and country. “I have started training with my personal fitness trainer and I hope to get back on the pitch before the end of the month,” Ezenwa told CSN. Ezenwa has been the Super Eagles first choice since he replaced Daniel Akpeyi last year. The Enyimba goalkeeper has made six international appearances for the main Super Eagles team, conceding two goals. Nigeria will face Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D at the Russia 2018 World Cup. andrew444:You started it all @the bolded. Why bring in his kids? Habaaa. One fire has not ended and here you are starting another one. Can't we have arguments without resorting to insults of the most crudest type. You insulted his kids who did nothing to you. He replied you that his kids are not as daft as (you). And then Gbam, you land one straight on his father. This is shameful. I have pleaded with you to debate with him without insults. You promised. But no. Kog45 pleaded with you too. Again you promised. But for where. Na im family, his kids and father that you now going onto. Let's stop all this. None of us are kids here. At least an insult should have justification. What's the reason for bringing in his kids? Somebody says something you don't like. Why don't you first at least say to the person: I don't like so, so and so you said. Rather than go straight insulting the person. Humility017 felt peeved by realpoacher comments. He at least expressed his displeasure to poacher rather than go straight to insults. That's what a matured mind does and should do. We are here to discuss football not trade insults. We are not here to police each other and set up tribunals to settle disputes. Abeg 3 Likes |

Hello guys! I've been fantasizing the kind of formation that can appropriately accommodate theses deadly attackers of ours with Mikel playing behind them. Moses, Iheanacho, Iwobi and Ighalo including S.Moses (If possible) Or at least four among them. So what formation could that be? |

Icon4s:Lol Methinks the rules that made players cautious should be brought back. Some tackling done in Collina's era were not this bad. Intact some red cards were not worth it if we compare with the same tackle of nowadays. but that made players forsake evil intents on another player. I pray the World Cup officiating which has the knack for stupid decisions sometimes don't foil our dream. Maradona started the simulation stuff sotey na only VAR fit decide true tackles. |

Sometimes I think someone left the door to this section's armoury wide open that everyone on this thread are now experimenting kill standard by insulting, misbehaving and stiff necked to simple reality. Mathematically speaking can't we just use the simple RHS=LHS when involving comparisons, contrastings, etc? Phew. |

Na so e dey start small small That's how the Doctor in the movie 'Concussion' (actually from the real life story of the Nigerian doctor Bennett Omalu) fought alone for years to bring the issue of head damages to the attention of the stakeholders in the NFL amidst threat to his life.
