I sincerely wish the current admin will complete the abandone conference centre and all the gigantic projects abandoned at Rangers avenue since Chimaroke left power. Enugu is like a spiritual place in the hearts of many great Igbo sons and daughters. Have you ever wondered why Owelle Nnamdi Azikiwe was spiritually connected to Enugu? How and why Ikemba decided to live there till the end? Yes,, Chief Alex Ekwueme lived and aged gracefully in Enugu. Or why Arthur '1000' is 042 in and outside?

Do you know why Igbo business billionaires like Innoson, Alo Aluminum CEO, Juhel CEO and Anbeez CEO chose Enugu as their homes? What made all big Igbo politicians of all ages own homes in Enugu? Just as ancient Egyptians were in tune with the pyramids, so are many Igbos spiritually connected to Enugu. Enugu is more than a state! Some of you may understand this now or perhaps later in your life. Ekwusigom!

AyakaDunukofia:

Yes, core Omambala people respect and adore all Igbos. We are one and indivisible Ndigbo. The so called Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi were simply created out of administrative convenience. It has absolutely nothing to do with intra ethnic differences.

A native of Uli in Anambra has much more in common with an Orlu in Imo state. Just as an Amansea or Udi native in Enugu state has much more in common with an Awka or Dunukofia person from Anambra than with somone from Uga or Ogbunka in the same Anambra. We are simply one Ndigbo. Even as Enugu city remains our eternal capital. ( Obodo Nzuko Ndigbo). People that matters in Igboland recognizes this fact.

Continue deceiving yourself. All of Anambra is one and the same and we are united because we have the same heritage, dialect, value systems etc. Anambra and Enugu have nothing in common. Wawa people are beneath us Anambra indigenes in any positive way you can think of.

Enugu is the capital of South east

Lies.

If Gboko was the capital of old eastern region even Zik would have sited UNN there.

If Ogoja was the capital of the then eastern region Ojukwu would have had a house there too.

If Nkalagu was the capital of the eastern region Ekwueme as a former VP would have seen it as his constituency prior to the creation of Anambra and Enugu states.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Enugu but it has everything to do with the fact that Anambra and Enugu were sharing one state then and their capital was in Enugu. It was natural that more people would tend to live in the capital at least for anyone who could afford it then.

The same thing happened when Abuja was created. People who could afford it started leaving Lagos and moving to the new capital in Abuja. If tomorrow capital is created in Calabar or Ugep people will naturally want to move to the place.

If Asaba or Onitsha were to be capital of the region then it wouldn't have been different.

You can as well notice the population pattern after the creation of states. More people tend to live in Anambra state than Enugu state going by the population census.

Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu and Ebonyi...that is the order of population ranking in the SE.

You know what? Try meet one of those 75+ years Igbomen who have lived in Enugu over 50 years and ask him why he decided to live in Enugu that long. Spiritual here has many connotations, it's not about church buildings.

Yes, we are not there yet. But we need to start focusing more on the 'real sector' than the retail business.

Most FMCG products consumed in Nigeria are produced in Lagos/Ogun. Our people can change the narrative

You can take it to the bank, it has nothing to do with Enugu. Like i illustrated if Uyo was the capital of the then eastern region most of those old politicians and old time businessmen would have at least a house there.

Ok now that states have been created with their capitals what is the resident population ranking of the SE states?

Ugwuanyi is a little too dull for my liking. He's not bullish and aggressive enough regarding development of Enugu city and making it a world-class destination for business and tourism. Maybe as some claim, he's facing other towns and zones in the state and so doesn't have enough to spend on the capital, but besides those new roads i saw built in Nsukka, i haven't seen anywhere else the money could have gone.

We need to see at least one world-class project built in Enugu city that would define his tenure as Governor. It could be funded either solely by the gov't, jointly in a PPP arrangement, or solely by private finance. Areas of investment could be: upgrading the AIIA local/int'l terminals, expanding the runway while adding a taxiway; rebuilding Presidential Hotel, finishing the int'l conference centre, building a park (Enugu still doesn't have a park in the mould of the millenium park, Abuja), or investing in healthcare (the diagnostic centre is yet to be finished but it's a good place to start). The HELIU estate being built looks promising, but one is yet to get an idea of what will be delivered, or is it gonna be yet another regular unserviced housing estate like we already have all over the SE?

Nwanne, I feel bad each time I pass that international conference centre lying in ruins.

And I think Chris Chemist (junction at Old Park/Holy Ghost) needs a flyover to ease off the traffic gridlock there, especially during festive seasons

Emene is neglected part of Enugu. It's not fair.

Despite being an industrial hub, Emene doesn't receive attention from successive state governments, making it look abandoned and horrible

It's supposed to be our own 'Agbara industrial estate', but unlike Agbara that Obasanjo linked up with a dedicated gas supply, Emene doesn't have any constant power supply. Besides being close to Lagos, this is another reason Agbara attracts many FDIs and multinational corporations.

Ordinarily, the state Governors Enugu has had since 1999, together with other Igbo elite and organisations should have mounted pressure on the central gov't to give Emene the same treatment given to Agbara, but since they're near useless, lack vision and don't have a Igbo-centric outlook, nothing happened! As we speak the federal gov't is doing the same thing trying to link up Kano with gas, yet it hasn't occurred to our useless elite (esp' the ones in APC) to put pressure on Abuja to include Emene, Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba in the plan; to be done same time as the one in far away Kano...not later!

Egbema ipp,
Geometric ipp,
No tangible linkage to East-West gas pipeline,
2nd niger bridge,
The list goes on......

Imagine the structural implications of having these critical infrastructures coming on stream, the attendant multiplier effect, trickling down from top to bottom, the spreading tententacles on the socio-economic fronts of the South East, South South, middle belt,

The elites are so disinterested in levelbased of synergy in regional development, To say the least, but at this juncture, there aint no modicum of cohesion whatsoever for regional economic integration,

They just all about self-centeredness, nonchalance, carelessly holding no bar,

All economic summits have amounted to zilch, and nothingness,
A lone voice can't do nada, it's a clarion call, these crop of leaders aren't towing the right part to regional economic cohesion as much as expected machaaa

Entered a public bus from Awka to Onitsha early this week. One man was talking nonsense about how federal roads in enugu state was better than those in Anambra state and was trying to make fun of anambra coz of that. But his nsukka accent gave him away. Immediately people noticed, they pounced on him with words and tore him to shreds! He was given the most brutal insults you can imagine and warned never to mention anambra in his life again! The man was a pitiable sight to behold afterwards. His once radiant face suddenly turned red and messy like ogiri. I was so proud of my anambra blood that day.
