Obdk: Is that why more convention centers are springing up than stadiums? Sport is only profitable because of TV rights and advertising not gate fees. 2 Likes |

Massive on going work at the Nengo River Bridge on Nteje - Umunya Road. This road serves as a bypass to the (dilapidated) Umunya - Awkwuzu express road. The completion of this project will indeed bring succor to the entire South East populace. The commissioner for works Hon Engr Marcel Ifejiofor heading the supervisory work of the ministry. 4 Likes

Obi1kenobi: Any wise person already knows that its unwise to build stadia in environments where a lot of infrastructure deficit as roads, power generation, rail etc are desperately needed. Look at the picture above and realize we are still building bridges and roads to connect places. The concrete used for that bridge will not be enough for just one pillar in a 30,000 capacity stadium. Why waste the money for bridges and roads on stadium?? Some very rich states can waste any amount they like to build stadium, but states struggling to find enough IGR to cover developmental aspirations and industrialization must shun such wasteful behavior. We can develop standard pitches as picture below in some selected secondary schools in each senatorial zone to serve as sports development centers for students competitions.New talents are discovered from their secondary school fields and then eventually develop. States that built new stadia have not discovered more athletes than those who did not. That assertion is false and very deceptive. 11 Likes

Obdk: A 40,000 stadium with 4 events every month even if filled to capacity at average gate fee of 500 naira will yield 960 million a year. For a stadium costing 30 billion it will take over 30 years to cover it's cost and you haven't even talked about operations and maintenance. A 5000 multi space capacity conference center on the other hand will cost roughly around 1-3 billion naira but it will host at least 50-100 events a year yielding well over 300 million a year. It would pay itself back within a 10 year period. Moreover a conference center brings in a more sophisticated group of people including international guests. How many business gurus or technical experts will go to Uyo to watch the Super Eagles play? Anambra needs to be hosting national and international events if it has any hopes of transforming itself beyond a primitive trading economy. When you have national bankers, lawyers, doctors, oil and gas entrepreneurs, engineers, writers attending conferences in Anambra the state shows it is open for business and it's creating opportunities for organizations and multinationals to setup offices, branches and factories in the state. You don't get that level of economic activity from a stadium. 4 Likes 1 Share |

mktinsight: so what stops the stadium from hosting 50 -100 events in a year you create events to utilise the stadium. thats common sense. Nigeria super eagles will play against athletico Madrid at uyo stadium dis may. tell me what conference centre can pull such crowd. i remember wen pastor chris was using lagos stadium for his ministry. your submission doesnt make sense at all. u can still build a conference center while hosting stadium also. the games village Ifeanyi ubah is building ll also host a conference center... |

Very correct. If government can build this conference centres in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi, then Anambra is few steps ahead in becoming a fully business hub in the south east. mktinsight: 1 Like |
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Nobody: 1:18pm On May 12, 2018 |
Obdk: Your math is wack. 4 events a month is 48 events a year. That's almost 50 events that you used as your baseline. I doubt that Uyo or Lagos Stadium hosts that many events. Then a typical football game viewer spends 20 times less than.a conference attendant. Meaning that a 1,000 person event at Eko Convention Center reaps exactly the same revenue as 30,000 people watching football at Uyo Stadium. Meanwhile the stadium costs 10-20 times that of the Convention Center. 2 Likes |

mktinsight: it doesn't matter. having at least one standard stadium in Anambra state is not a bad idea. take note. Anambra is one of the richest and list indebted state in Nigeria. so I believe they can handle it. The state is not as poor as you think |

Stnomso: Yes, having one international FIFA standard stadium is desirable but not a priority. It can be flagged off, but phased to be built over a 10 year period to make sure it does not usurp funds needed for high priority basic infrastructure needed to help the state develop. 4 Likes |

Stnomso: If you have 30 billion to spend is it not better deployed on even just connecting cities with water supply? Is it not better to equip primary health care centers or schools or libraries? Football should be left to the ifeanyi ubahs and other rich men to build as is done even in UK and USA. ANSG have no business dabbling in empty money sucking vanity projects. 1 Like 1 Share |

stanluiz: We need updates and photos on many things actually. Like the refinery; the airport; the conference centre; all those real estate developments for which MOUs were signed; the hotel Ifeanyi Uba is building next to his stadium; the completed Agulu Lake Hotel (let's see how far with the landscaping, rooms and lobby); etc. We don't have that many pics of developments in Nnewi by way of companies, hotels and real estate/mansions. Also, can someone tell us how the coffers of Anambra state is benefitting from the oil and gas exploitation they say is ongoing at the moment? 4 Likes |

Xander85: You are one of the most cerebral Igbo people i have seen. You precisely know what counts, and you refuse to be distracted by chaff and emotional projects such as the so called scam called Niger bridge construction You are sharply focused on things that are game changers. I am just in love with your highly focused way of thinking. I wish more Igbo people are that strategic in thoughts and action and focus on things that truly count in the big picture. We won't be so easily deceived and taken for granted with emotional projects that truly don't add any value. 5 Likes |
