Ask ur forefathers very well, they will tell you they gave birth to 10, 12 or even more children but only few survived!

If not for science and research, do u know the number of childhood killer diseases dt are avoidable!

Africans will prefer to thrive on superstition and faith rather than embrace science and facts!

If U've been opportuned to work in the hospital environment u will run for ur dear life from AS if u're AS

Forget love, dt shit disappears the moment a family has SS child or children

Almost monthly hospital admissions, Blood transfusions, everyday medications, don't do this, don't do that!

This SS shit has broken many homes.

This is the 21st century, stop displaying stark ignorance like this.

Well if you are AS it's ur choice, u can go ahead and procreate with AS, just don't come crying later with funny stories

You are right however, if it is a risk they are willing to take, life can favour them and they AAs instead or atleast, one AA first with one AS to follow. Once they are to secure these two, they can end it there and enjoy their lives. There is nothing wrong in trying. Just that they are aware that it might be the other way and brace up but if they believe strongly, it can work out in their favour.

I've witness many crisis even more severe more than the genotype crisis and why?

Sterope:
Have you ever witnessed a crisis? Have you ever met a SS person?

Seems you are with me in this. I think Education and too much exposure is doing more harm than good which is making a lot of ladies lose good men that comes their ways. In this girl case, what happens to those illiterate that impregnate themselves anyhow without doing any test. How many cases of SS have they recorded with the way people sleep around without checking their genotype status. Our forefathers didn't do all these funny test before they give birth to our healthy parents. I just have the believe that if AS vs AS couple have the mind or thought of given birth to SS, it will surely come to them. One needs to be positive in life.
Our forefathers were ignorant of this and they paid for it, in those days parent loose there children few years after birth, it was majorly SS factor but Yoruba's call it "abiku" thinking it was spiritual. When I served in Oyo town I met some illiterate couple that there child was having issues with the stomach, the wife was accusing the husband that he wants to use his daughter for ritual. At the end of the day we discovered the child was SS.

My point is I will never force someone out of a relationship because of there genotype but I can counsel them on the negative effect, it's there choice to determine if they wanna bear the burden because of love that might probably fade away. Our life's is in our hands

This syndrome of genotype of a thing have chased more harm than good, but the best thing that matters first is ur believe and faith in your God and urself, my genotype is Ac and my wife is As, ol and behold we both on the first instant argued on this and then decided we should break up due to our genotype, but we both sat down again and flashed back to te era of our great grandparents, ah beg there are nothing like all this bullshit sicknesses oooo, nah so we come meet one medical personal for medical advice , we go ahead in our weddi process and now to God b the glory we have 3 kids and all are as strong as mike Tyson oooo, ur faith and believe matters, not all of us can make such dangerous decisions any way,

I am assuming you mean genotypes for carriers of mutations in the beta-globin chain like sickle cell trait (AS genotype) and hemoglobin C trait (AC genotype)?

Of course anyone can marry anyone (depending only on the laws of your jurisdiction), but if you have a child together, there is a 25% chance they will have sickle cell trait (AS), a 25% chance they will have hemoglobin C trait (AC), and a 25% chance they will have hemoglobin SC disease (SC) which can cause the same complications as sickle cell disease (SS) although generally less severe

what is actually your point now??. Please carry diz ur yeye Pentecostal testimony go corner and worship ur pastors...We are literates here and don't believe in drums and scarfs proclamations..

We talking about avoiding breeding SS kids and causing undue avoidable pains to innocent kids we didn't request for unfounded testimonies...

You're the ignorant here because you don't have any proof to back it up or to counter me. Come with your theory and not others theory and stop sounding like what the Whites are calling us.

Sterope:
You are extremely irritating. You disbelieve but you cannot back it up. You have never seen a crisis. You don't know any SS but you continue to be ignorant.

Who do you think were the Abiku children or Ogbanje?

Also, single parents do have sicklers. There's the case of a popular Igbo actress who lost her 15year old son to SS in the recent past. Google it

If i may add......
Pls double check or even triple check your genotype status at different centres for confirmation.
There are situations or circumstances where the result you get would be incorrect.

My brother, because I'm typing with a phone, I might not be able to draw the statistics for you

But know this: with each pregnancy for couples that are AS, there's a
25% chance of SS child
50% chance of AS child
25% chance of AA child

Yes some are lucky, they get AS, or AA

But my brother, most times, these lucky ones are few and far between, maybe less than 10%of the AS-AS couples around

Three days ago in clinic, two children in a family who presented with Vaso occlusive crisis features were diagnosed of SS Genotype after investigations done

It was devastating. That was the first time the parents were hearing anything about Genotype and stuff.

Granted, they were semi literate with primary level of education and were butchers and meat sellers respectively

If you wanna go ahead on luck, pls do. But in my practice, I've seen a lot of things that even breaks my own heart, and time would not permit me to discuss here.

U can do ur own research too. Ciao!

Not believing doesn't make it less true. Maybe you've not seen anyone with the disease before or something, but you have a wide range of resources on the internet, educate yourself.

A LITTLE LECTURE ABOUT GENOTYPE to whom it may concern....

Someone with the genotype AA can marry across (AS, AC, SS). There’s no risk of the couple having a sicklier for a child.
Someone with the genotype AS should marry someone with the AA genotype only! Same goes for someone with AC and SS.

In other words...

AS and AS should not marry.
AS and SS shouldn’t think of marrying.

And definitely SS and SS must not marry since there’s absolutely no chance of escaping having a child with the sickle cell disease.

AA and AA? Carry go.
AA and any other genotype? Cool.

Make wise decisions every minute. The future starts now!
Not entirely correct. Even if you are AA, make sure you do not have beta thelesema, If you do, then only marrying an AA can help you.

Foolish assumption. Those that have taken to this your type of advice some years ago are regretting it now. In our for father's time, many of them experienced the problem of abiku. If u are Yoruba you will understand what abiku means. This really troubled them in those times not knowing it is an issue of genotype. But white people no dey get this genotype problem.
