It is remarkable fall from grace to grass for Onazi; because 4 years ago in Brazil, he was our best midfielder.

Now, he is on the verge of being dropped on Monday morning.

See I'm very flexible in my thinking. The main thrust of my argument has always been play Iwobi from the middle. I only conceded to Iwobi playing as a sub to Mikel cos it was pointed out that Mikel is already doing excellently well as regards whatever we want iwobi to do.

Iwobi kept on drifting into the middle cos that's where his natural instincts lie. he later abandoned the wings(your so called inverted abi false winger) and stationed himself in the middle to the extent that the commentator said Iwobi has been effective (yes he used that word) playing centrally. At a point he was deep in the heart of the midfield in front of the defenders. I told you that Iwobi needs space in his head to flourish. No be to dey hug the lines.

Argue it from morning till night it has become clear to everyone that watched the match that Iwobi flourishes as a midfielder not any yeye inverted abi false winger. SE is not Arsenal. Rohr has been using the Wenger template for Iwobi. It can never work in the SE.

Forget about respecting me. I didn't come here to garner respect. Let's discuss football.

deny from now till tomorrow with big grammar, you wanted iwobi on the bench, you had serious argument with icon4s and he keep saying iwobi will start....oga i told you with the system 4-2-3-1 all the 3 players behind the lone striker can do the number 10 duty, this is not the firat time iwobi is doing that.

Mujtahida you said iwobi is useless from the wing but can play only in the middle and should be retain on the bench incase mikel is tayad, oga no dey embarrass your self

After the coach saw the lapses, he decided to change the formation and moved Mikel close to the back then placed Iwobi who wasn't doing any defensive work on the wing ahead of Mikel.

Meaning, he doesn't need to create chances rather bring stability to the team. Since, he is now aware, he needed to do more of defending and allow Iwobi roam.

He can't remove Mikel who is the most experienced hence the need to remove either Joel or Onazi.

Surprisingly, he removed both and brought in another CMF maybe to see the Etebo because I don't think if any of those players stay the game will bad.

The problem was the right side of our team.

And since Shehu lacks pace, he needed someone with speed that could at the same time support the attack midfield and defence. Who else but Ebuehi could do that?

Ebuehi and Brian joining the midfield and defending with quick recovery stabilized our game.

The English realised and brought in fresh players to disrupt our wings with pace since that is their own strength but by the time dey do that we already strengthened our wings.

The only problem now is the forward didn't gel.
Gbam!! Ighalo today surprising lacked mobility. His movement was disappointing.
Mikel playing deep helped big time. It goes back to what i, Icon79, Oasis007, etc have been saying - PLAY MIKEL A BIT DEEPER. Ogu playing as a CB helped too as he's better than all our CBs on the ball.

Correct me if I am wrong but i saw him upfront with ighalo in the first half, hence he was played wrongly. Thats a classic repeat of Nigeria vs cameroon

that's how his been playing since...4-2-3-1 formation:- the player behind the striker always act like a second striker

So una eye dun dey open abi, I have always maintained that Azubuike Okechukwu is a better player than those pretenders but tbaba1234 and Icon4s were against me for saying that. Im just Happy u guys are now seeing what Michael and I saw ages ago.

Azubuike made our midfield thick at the Olympics and he has been the best midfielder amongst our midfield contingents that ply their trade in the Turkish league.

Agu and Onazi are bench warmers in this same league, yet they are always picked ahead of Azu Okey by Rohr. For reasons best known to him, he also prefers those two to Esiti and Agbo. Just smh bkus Rohr is gradually losing my confidence KPOM

Onazi is not a bench warmer in turkey

crappy and a bunch of hogwash you wrote up there.

Rohr bringing in ebuehi in the second half when chasing a game should tell you he rates him highly. The battle is between shehu and ebuehi and from all data collected, inference is that ebuehi is going to be our first choice right back or right wing back. Shehu has always been suspect in games of higher magnitude.

Over all, a good performance from our boys.

The second half performance shows we can play if we want to.

The switch in both personnel and set up in the midfield changed the complexity of the game.

The midfield was so porous and uncoordinated in the first half.

What changed?

Change of personel: introduction of Etebo and Ogu for Joel and Onazi.
Change of set up: The team switched to 2 blocking 4: Ogu focusing more on the left side, providing cover for Idowu while Etebo teamed up with Ebuehi at the right. With Etebo also playing the box to box role.

Another coup was the continuous switch in position between Mikel and Iwobi. I saw Iwobi go central for Mikel to go to the RW. I saw Iwobi go to the flanks for Mikel to play from the Central AM position. At other time Iwobi played in the CM position just behind Mikel. Iwobi has highlighted his importance in our 2018 WC campaign. His versatility and creativity is such an asset to the team and this must be maximised. He is definitely a starter!

For those that underate the importance of midfield play, this game has shown how important a compact and co-ordinated midfield can yield results.

I am not disappointed.

We played England at Wimbley. I am sure we can beat them in Uyo. Hahaha

The way Rohr set up the midfield for the second half should be how we should set up against Croatia.

The boy needs space to flourish. Being a starter is not the key thing. Whether he starts or not does not matter as much as deploying him where he can be effective.

What type of report would our opponents take home from this match? That they should come at us from the blast of the whistle..hehe...if ever Ogu and Ndidi starts...that report will be torn to shreds

So does it mean we cannot switch formation in the course of first half? So we have to wait until we are four goals down then we change? I do not like this idea of Rohr ooo....as the game changes, change formation too...players can be substituted in the first half...o gini ne eme?

Savvy?
Me I think Rohr has to approach this WC with some flexibility. Each opponent might require a different tactical set up and different players. Different players does not mean he should change the team so much. Just throw in one, two, three players to start certain games and that might do the magic. But if we stick to this idea that you never change a winning team, toh, it's a double edged sword. The winning team of yesterday might continue to win or it might lose. All na risk.

I have been busy today but I just had to make out time to drop a brief review of today's game.

We should not play without a strong shield for our defence. Onazi failed woefully in shielding the defence and this made us porous to the pacy attacks of the English players.

Ogu is a master in shielding the defence and he should be the preferred choice over Onazi.

Iwobi is coming of age and we have a midfield dynamite in the making.

I think we should be passed preparatory phase and sharpening the final details of our game. It looks like we are still sorting out our best players in each position.

Ighalo might be a good striker but he does not offer enough movement up front to disrupt build-up plays of our opponents or create passing room for our midfielders.

Ebuehi showed why he deserves to be the starter of the right back slot. His offensive play reduced the time our opponents could attack from the wings.

I am not fully convinced with Uzoho's keeping but he seems prepared for the tasks ahead.

All in all, good workout for the team and tools for the coaching crew to tackle.

Iwobi is undebatebly our most outstanding outfield player today. His ball reading ability has improved. I saw him pull some long and lobbed defence splitting balls. One of which led to a goal.

Iwobi should be given a free role in the team. He needs to be free to roam about to dictate play..

let me educate you better, when the right back or the left back don't press forward and allow much pressure on himself from the opponent right back, the idle winger tend to move above him to the Central defender, that was what happened in the first half.

if you are very observant that stopped in the second galf

Which kind of explanation is that one na? How can he push forward when we were always on the back foot and without the ball?

People are just shouting Onazi no good.. Joel no good like say na only dem go play ball.

The problem was Shehu could not deal with the pacy English forwards and Iwobi didn’t help to defend.

This is because Mikel lost the ball on many occasions and whenever he does that, he added more pressure to the midfield because the wingers which were also part of the midfield had already rushed forward to receive passes when he lost the ball.

This exposed the wing backs and brought confusing to the midfield because when the English won the ball they spread the balls immediately to the wings which stretched our two man midfield.

Remember, Iwobi and Victor are still trying to recover their positions and Mikel is slow to recover too when they began the transition.

These two players played the DMF role and all they need to do was protect back line and find Mikel or the wingers as soon as they get the ball but unfortunately Mikel loosed the ball several times.

Mikel was the biggest culprit in the midfield. He unstabled the team.

Anyway, Shehu has been exposed as a weakling.

Iwobi best position is the AMF but no substitute
.
Ebuehi and Brian are better as wing backs.

Ogu can play in a 3 mans defence but somehow we were still exposed from his wing.

Etebo na NEPA. Off and on. Today was his on day

Ahmed has pace but nobody to support him.

We don't have many forward options.

Anyway, with what I see, we go win Iceland. Croatia can be won too but we must play 3-5-2 formation.

The bolded made me laugh.

KPOM. And by the way, could some of you guys go to twitter and help me retweet this tweet.

Here's the suggestion I am giving to the Super Eagles technical crew:

Replying to @NGSuperEagles @thenff and 4 others
And by the way, has Rohr ever considered pulling Obi Mikel down to DM (in a double pivot with Ndidi) and use Alex in the creative midfield role? Just thoughts, but that might be our joker in Russia.

And here's the second one:

@TalmudicSage

Somebody needs to convince Mikel. We can use him as the deep lying playmaker (the Pirlo role. We need his experience and calm under pressure against the likes of Raktic and Modric. We can't let the Croats run the midfield or else they would hurt us.

Both tweets have received a few likes and retweets but I need more. Something tells me that the technical crew could pay attention if the suggestion receives enough retweets.
