Tweet from Enyimba's Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda about time wasting in the NPFL

To all my colleague goalkeepers (goalplayers) in the NPFL, let’s please be honest to ourselves, and try to keep the game alive, and make it more attractive by putting a stop to unnecessary time wasting in the league. Remember the game is fair play!

Counter attack is negative football. I feel cheated when I hear or read this team being described as a counter attacking team. Counter attack means you are attacked first and you wait to hit back. If I'm a coach I will never play this kind of game. If you pass me, you pass me but I go attack oo, I will attack. Once you have a good midfield and defence why wait to be attacked before you attack?

Maybe u don't understand counter attack very well.
For sure your opponent will always launch attacks on you but not every of their attack will succeed. You are just taking advantage of their failed attack to punish them.
This doesn't mean you always wait to be attacked first.
In as much as they describe the current SE as a "counter attacking team" how many goals have they scored from counters out of 12 goals during WCQ? This means they don't depend on counters but wud exploit such opportunity as it comes.

Monkey dey work Baboon dey chop.

Poor Agu. I feel for the boy the most. It was a very bad decision to drop him.

Since, Rohr wasn't confident enough to play Awaziem in the last 2 friendlies and even showed it by ignoring him for Ogu who he has converted to a CB, he should have been dropped for Agu.

The boy effort was just in vain. He's the monkey here. Yet Rohr wan use him as an object of mockery by turning him to training material and ball boy in camp.

Awaziem didn't contribute nada in the friendlies and qualifiers yet he's on the plane to Russia. Na wa ooooooo.

2018 World Cup: Ola Aina, Mikel refuse to be standby players in Super Eagles’ squad

The duo of Mikel Agu and Ola Aina have left the Super Eagles’ camp for their respective bases after they were dropped from Gernot Rohr’s final 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Rohr had given both players permission to stay and train with the team as standy players, but they turned down the option.

Mikel Agu has flown back to Turkey, where he spent last season on loan to Bursaspor from FC Porto.

Aina, who knew about his fate even before the team departed England, decided to stay behind in London, instead of following the Eagles to their training camp in Austria.

Rohr has, however, assured the duo about their future with the national team.

that's not professional from the players, what if injuries knock off anyone from the 23 man list, won't they hop into the squad? they guys need to grow up abeg. This is always my issues with Nigerian players and what did they even play before now anyway.

marking is not the soul job of a DM, especially when the team is on pressure

There is a reason why the term defensive comes before the midfielder. This is due to his primary role being a defensive one. When once a defensive midfielder is not being defensive majority of the time the team is under attack, then the team has a problem.

NFF technical committee tackles Rohr over World Cup list

We were not consulted, says Lawal
A member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee, former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal, says coach Genrot Rohr did not consult them before announcing the squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Coach Gernot Rohr on Sunday made public a 23-man squad that will prosecute the Mundial, which begin on June 14.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Lawal said none of the committee members was aware of the final list before it was disclosed to the public.

“I got to know about the list on the social media like every other Nigerian. And I was surprised that the technical committee was not told about the list before it was made public.

“It seems we don’t know what we are doing. Rohr is the one that can answer Nigerians why members like Fanny Amun, Victor Ikpeba, Mutiu Adepoju were not consulted.

“At this moment, whether we say yes to Rohr’s list or not, there is nothing we can do again since the final squad has be named,” he said.

The former defensive midfielder while reacting to the complaints on the inclusion of Ogenyi Onazi, said Rohr should be the one to answer the question.

“I am particularly sad that a player like Uche Agbo, who played week in, week out for his club, Standard Liege of Belgium was not given a chance to prove his worth.

“This guy is a utility player, who as a defensive midfielder, can also operate as a defender in the middle and at both wings. Yet such talent was dropped without a look in. I still believe there are qualities in the team that can make us proud in Russia,” he stated.

when Garba Lawal becomes coach, I will see if he will consult the technical committee before releasing his list, talk is cheap, rohr is paid to do his job and should be allowed to take the credit for success and blame for failure. If 170 million nigerians are allowed to make thier own list of players, we would have 170 million different list of players. chikena

Look at this picture and see Onazi's positioning. Do you think it is healthy for the team? Interceptions is a big part of the defensive midfield role. Call a spade a spade than defending incompetence. Onazi is the one with a band on his hand.

He will help the team perform better by shielding the defence. It is as simple as that. When he is not, we are exposed at the back.

You can see his positioning forced Ekong to leave his position to cover the gap in front of the 18 yard box and thus exposing the defence.

The due process in the contract Rohr signed was that he will submit his list to the technical committee for vetting and defend his list in a press conference. Without checks and balances the system will crumble.

I think the decision to work with the technical committee is down to the Coach. If he wants their inputs, fine. If he does not, it is fine. At the end, the technical committee will not bear the load of any criticism that comes with the job.

Wait - are we talking about the same Musa Rohr invited in his early days?? The same Musa Rohr organized private training sessions for?? The same Musa Rohr spoke about and encouraged him to leave his club to get regular playing time??
Musa was invited before Ebuehi if I'm not mistaken. Rohr probably didn't pay attention to him after he moved and still couldn't nail down a starting spot.
If we're being honest, apart from Echiejile and say Mikel when he was still at Chelsea, how many non starters at club level makes/made our first 11??(Uzoho is one but he plays regularly for the reserves I guess)

Musa Mohammad play regularly in Bulgaria, we are not asking him to starr but his an better option than Aina, Musa struggled in Leicester but was still in Super eagles then, same with iheanacho.

World Cup 2018: 5 Nigerian players to watch out forDonning in the attractive Naija jersey, these Nigerian stars could light up the World Cup!

174 |2 hrs ago|Top 5 / Top 10
SHARE

Jong Ching Yee

England v Nigeria -International Friendly
Nigeria started their strongest eleven against England
The Eagles' jersey received a huge amount of sales overseas and the preorders were up to 3 million. Although their jersey is a hit among the masses, Nigeria are nonetheless underdogs. As of 2018, the nation has qualified for six of the last seven FIFA World Cup, reaching the round of 16 thrice.

They are one of the better teams from Africa but when compared to the European nations and some South American teams, Nigeria are still not highly regarded as fierce competitors.During the international friendlies held in March, Nigeria faced two World Cup sides, Poland and Serbia. The African nation beat the former but lost to the latter. It seems like the team's performance stays rather inconsistent as they drew with DR Congo in late May before losing to England a few days ago.The game against the Three Lions was a stern test for Nigeria even though it was simply a friendly match. It surely made the head coach, Gernot Rohr, more certain of his choices and the best 23-man squad. Also read: World Cup 2018: 9 Players Playing in their Fourth World Cup

Looking bright and smart in their Naija jersey, there are a few sparks who have performed well on the international stage. In the upcoming World Cup, they could bring further glory to their nation and lead Nigeria to advance through the stages. Here is a look at the five stars to look out for.

#5 John Obi Mikel

FBL-FRIENDLY-ENG-NGR

Mikel will continue to be his team's captain
The former Chelsea man is one of the most experienced in the Nigeria football team. As the captain of the team, he has 83 caps to his name and scored six goals since his international senior debut in 2005. Over the decade that he has spent in Chelsea, he was known to be a reliable defensive player but rarely stole the show with his performances. Despite his average showing in the English Premier League, he is regarded as a hero in Nigeria.Mikel is able to play different roles across the midfield and can at times be deployed to play as a centre-back too. Now at 31 years of age, Mikel plays at Tianjin Teda. The competition in the Chinese Super League is surely not as stiff and demanding as in England. However, it still allows him to remain active on the pitch and make his way into the World Cup squad. The tall midfielder is proficient with dribbling from midfield. He likes to play through balls and short passes, which allows his team to advance quickly and keep possession. Mikel has been a key player for the Nigeria football team especially during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and 2014 World Cup. The leader will undoubtedly be a source of inspiration for the rest of the players during their games in Russia.

#4 Ahmed Musa

England v Nigeria -International Friendly

Musa has not been scoring as frequently as he would have liked
The Leicester City forward spent his season on loan at CSKA Moscow. His scoring records have not caught the eye though. Musa had a goal every 223 minutes which is hardly inspiring. That being said, he remains one of the top scorers for Nigeria.

After making his international debut in 2010, Musa has made 71 appearances, scoring 13 goals in the process. It will not be the player's first World Cup as he had previously participated in the 2014 edition.Musa was even called up to the 30-man squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but an ankle injury eventually ruled him out of the competition. The last time he scored for his country was back on 1st June 2017. He will have to work an extra mile to find his scoring boots once again during the competition.Judging from his performances for CSKA Moscow, Musa will add the directness and pace to the attack. He is able to drive the ball forward quickly whenever he has possession and creates lots of problems for defenders. The 25-year-old may not be the best player on the team but he is one of the more experienced ones and that could make a difference for the Super Eagles.

#3 Kelechi Iheanacho

England v Nigeria -International Friendly

Iheanacho has the chance to prove himself in the World Cup
Iheanacho was one of the brighter prospects at Manchester City. In his first season at the Etihad Stadium, he emerged as the player with the best goals-per-minute ratio of any player, scoring a goal every 93.9 minutes played. The 21-year-old joined Leicester City last summer and went on to make 21 appearances. However, he scored only three goals in the Premier League campaign for the Foxes and could have done better.

The Nigerian made his debut for the national side in 2015 and has now represented his country 15 times. In the process, the youngster scored 8 goals and is definitely one of the strongest forwards in the squad. The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be his first of many in his playing career and he could develop to become Nigeria's future superstar.According to Squawka, the player has a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 53%. Iheanacho is not strong defensively, but he is a talent when it comes to the attack. Playing for his nation is one of his dreams and in the group stage, he will get to face his idol, Lionel Messi. It will be a great learning opportunity for the rising star of Nigeria.

#2 Victor Moses

England v Nigeria -International Friendly

Moses is one of the toughest wing-backs that opponents will face
Moses is one of Chelsea's regular starters in the Premier League. He usually plays as a wingback on the right and is often lauded for his work ethic. In the recent match against England, he showed a few skills and left Harry Kane on the deck, much to the delight of the Nigerian fans.

The winger is not tall, but he has a strong physical presence in the game. His upper body strength allows him to fend off tackles from others and keep the ball close within his range. Moses enjoys driving the ball down the flanks and crossing the ball into the box has become part and parcel of his playing life. The 27-year-old attacks and defends well, making him an almost complete player. His consistent performances for Chelsea and his nation is truly remarkable. When Moses was younger, he played for England at the youth stage. He made the swap and eventually decided to play for Nigeria, making his debut in 2012. Now he has earnt 33 appearances and scored 11 times. The tough winger should be a starter for his nation in the coming FIFA World Cup and he should be an essential player on the team.

#1 Alex Iwobi

England v Nigeria - International Friendly

Iwobi is probably the star of the whole Nigeria squad
The Arsenal starlet has had his ups and downs this season and many fans were disappointed with his performances throughout the campaign. Despite an unconvincing Premier League campaign with the Gunners, Iwobi remains a bright star for the Nigerian football team.

Most recently, he scored his nation's only goal against England. His nation had regarded the match against Gareth Southgate's side as a warm-up to the World Cup which is less than two weeks away. Iwobi is one of the stronger and more talented players who played in the match. Without a doubt, he is expected to start in all the group stage matches once the competition kicks off.Since making his debut in 2015, he scored five goals in 18 games. It will also be his first time that he plays in the FIFA World Cup 2018. He may not have the experience on the international stage, but the 22-year-old has been backed to be a success for Nigeria in Russia.

Aina is a regular at Hull and had an above average season. Echiejile wasn't even getting starts at a second division Belgian side. How many opportunities did Aina get if we're being real?? Yes I know people will point to Ebuehi and talk about how he came and played well against Argentina but he was a bit shaky in his first game for us too.
Yes Aina hasn't killed it but neither did Echiejile. If we all agree Idowu is first choice LB at the moment, why not take a younger Aina to gain experience? His versatility might have come in handy.

sentiment all over, Echiejile didn't play any match after Aina replaced him in Zambia match untill congo match

Aina was there before Idowu, but he was there untill idowu overtook him, Ebuehi never gotta chance until Argentina, he didn't even start couple with injury challenges.

Rohr was very fair to Aina, Aina was rather not fair to him self.

That LB was his but he messed it up
