If it was only my experience to go on, I would be wrong. Your experience too could be wrong/subjective as well.

There are two other objective measures we can use

1. Right here on nairaland, how do christians respond to atheism? Is it with open arms or with hostility?
Another wrong approach, christians on nairaland is simply but a fraction of the lot and does not in any way mirror the expected reaction likelihood from Christians within your circle offline.

2. We can use another religious country- The USA. As developed as it is, we can see how many cases of discrimination against atheist arise.

Furthermore on the issue of "atheist experience" in the USA, you cannot be an atheist and be a president in the USA. There are polls showing that atheists are one of the least trusted people in the country.

So, oga, I have precedent to back my assertions. What do you have to back up your experience?

We can as well put into consideration other factors which include; the way one exhibits one's atheism? as Budaatum suggested and everyone knows just how verbally aggressive such movements are in the United States per say.

So at the end of the day, you are still incorrect in your submission, it is not as linear as you'd have us believe.

- Not every christian reacts with hostility to atheism
- Not every atheist is a condescending prick with attitude issues towards religious folks

There are several variables that contribute to reactions either way it leans.

And at the end point of it, your experience does not define mine neither can it be used as a benchmark to measure mine.

Stop imposing your own problems on others. I am an atheist and i am quite open about it when asked, i discuss and argue when necessary and everyone in my circle, family, friend, girl friend, peers are all christians and i do not have one flying ounce of problem with them neither do they based on the polarity of our beliefs.

I really don't understand what u are unto... He has clearly given u probable reasons why his experience may different from the norm in ur world.
- his attitude towards religious people
- his personality
- the fact that he does not leverage on anyone

Recall he has not expressly advice that Martinez should go about proclaiming his non believe. He has also advised caution and necessity.

I think u owe him an apology for calling him a lair. Was that even necessary?

I am in Nigeria Lagos.

I intimidate my Co workers... We only argue but no issue.
Like Johnny even strangers are curious to know why I don't believe... They ask me their normal silly questions and all that and it ends there... Then no born anyone to intimidate me because of my believe.

I was coming back from a week trip to South Africa last month and met a lady in the plan(it was a 5 hour flight) she actually went for a religious convention.

We got talk and she started to preach.. I told her point blank that everything is fake... Do u know she didn't let me go? She was curious to know me more. She called her driver and asked where I was going... Luckily we were both going to island from the airport. She was nice to me... Drops me off took my number and just inky last week she invited me to a church program which I declined.

If any Christian tried to intimidate me because of my believe he will actually regret it

I see the problem. Lagos.

I work around Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun (although it might change soon).

Lagos is very developed compared to these other states. You can't try to be bold with your atheism in somewhere like Osun or Oyo.

I have personal beef with the guy. cool

Still, nothing about what he said really matters. If someone truly hates you, will your attitude and personality change much?

Take an example of daddy freeze that is independent and does not take nonsense. Can you see how many pastors have come for his head?

Bringing your personal beefs into an argument - that is the other end of objectivity. Now i see the issue.

funny enough, i have none with you.

People don't hate others by default.

Is there a causality?

Is there an antagonizing or aggressive verbal approach in his arguments?

We all know that is a Yes

You got to do better than this

Hmmm.........

Lets see....Enugu. Well, my time working there, nobody actually disturbed me. I lived in both GRA's in Enugu town (both new and old GRA). It was a quiet area and I was a quiet foreigner there. I could see the Ferris wheel in the shoprite from where i stayed in old GRA.

The short of it is that I can say much about Enugu. Did not do much in Enugu

There really isn't anything to settle. I have no problem with Superhumanist. arguments are healthy grin (if it is someone like butterfly who i do not really have any problem with i just happen to think is a moro_n, i wouldn't even reply)

- One person insists his personal experience is exactly a benchmark to measure others
- the other disagrees suggesting that there are more factors than contributes to people's reactions, it is not just as linear as the former suggests.

It is open to everyone else to read, understand and judge.

ok then.

I am hoping you are learning a thing or two about quantifying a vast majority or an entirety with your little sphere as a benchmark.

Sorry, I did not see this reply before.

Clearly, I was generalising. Of course, not every christian is a religious nutjob. However, I am addressing the aggregate. In totality, are christians more likely to be hostile or friendly when you tell them that you are an atheist?

The answer is "hostile", if you live in a religious country. Simple and short. If we use America to judge, the answer is too clear.

I still wonder why you dont want to consider nairaland christians as a good sample for Nigerian christians. I cant see how it would be different in real life. At least, people are more honest online with anonymity. It is even better than real life.........

I have lived in almost all parts of Nigerian... Akwaibom, IMO, Kaduna, Zaria, Abuja, Lagos, kogi, yobe, port, Anambra and didn't have issues with anyone what makes u think osun will be different... I am still going to be the same Frank that makes a fool of theists

I had no problem with your approximation until you extended your quantification towards the christians in my own circle dubbing my personal experience with Christians around me as either a lie or delusion.

- Its a hasty generalization
- False generalization

The only thing i wanted you to understand here is that personal experiences are not benchmarks to approximate a general overview.

I recall that i did not make an argument on Christian not being hostile towards people due to their atheism, i only explained my own experience which you dismissed as either a lie or a delusion since it does not coincide with yours or your aggregation of the average christian reaction towards atheism.

I only hope your flaws on this argument are apparent now

You see, I call myself a humanist and not an atheist because, humanists tend to agree on at least 70% with each other on politics and religion.

Atheists on the other hand, have nothing in common (except disbelief in God).

I have been with both atheists and humanists abroad. Can you imagine that atheists lost a debate on a religious topic because they couldnt get their act together?

Johnydon22 said something that annoyed me on another thread. He was reluctant to blame religion for violence or wars....or sha something.

If you know my story, I have almost beaten an innocent child to death because I thought he was a witch. So I am very vocal about the danger of religion

The OP is very serious about the fear and sorrow that atheism births, yet you habitually misunderstand everything that has been said.
Stick to your strongest character which is mockery and insults of innocent people that has done you no harm.

No one can escape spiritual law. The symptoms of mental illness is already evident for all to see.

What do you call a person that repeatedly and willfully coward innocent people ?

hmmm.

As for me, I cannot try that. Maybe it is my experience. I have seen too many mad people- so much that I cannot risk testing them.

One example- I was driving home with a work colleague, and we drove past a fallen truck that killed people. I told my friend that it is a sad way to die. The fucking nigga replied "there is no need to be sad. It is god's will. They died at the right time"! That was the last time the nigga entered my car.
