PointZerom:I don't have father's land. And i dont want one. I hate that. That's the problem. This ancestors crap annoys me. What exactly do you people do with the lands except fight and kill yourselves over land and the land remain barren for decades. I have said before that if i have land that is prone to grazing, I will sell it at big profit to the govt for grazing. I remembered a Jamaica co-worker of mine 11yrs ago said to me that Africa has land but are not useful. What is the use of the land when they serve no purpose?. Sell the land to federal govt as it is done in advanced countries and get huge payout and in return, you relinquish the deed of the land. If govt wants to resell, lease, build institutions or for ranches, memorials, parks, playground, that is easy. It can be privatized as well. This same applies to lands in the North and East. But all these my father land, my grandpa land, this land, that land are just useless and people kill themselves over selfishness. Yoruba movies perfectly portray this, isn't?. This is why most lands in SW are not developed bcus family kills themselves over it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Chuksonyeike:Lol, don't you hear calls in recent time by fed to pump money into agriculture?. I understand that sometimes, we tend to be defensive when a new strategy is proposed. But with time we reason to it and work it out. The bad news is you keeping talking about Fulanis should buy land. If they buy land in SW/SE, you should know that they have absolute authority over the land in your own region,. That's why it is the govt that should buy land. You guys are really local. Fulani's proposal is advanced one. It resembles that of western world 2 Likes |

ranching is certainly the way forward. I think the issue is the way & manner the FG is going about it. the impression seems to be that the ranches are for the Fulani's only & I doubt this... the FG needs to clarify that aspect. furthermore, in most northern states, some businesses are not allowed to operate or are severely restricted... such as sale of alcohol, piggery. so if the northerners put restriction on some southern businesses, restricting the northerners (in terms of FG funded ranching) can be seen as retaliatory in a way. the key things are: 1. further discussions between the affected parties... also clarify if the ranches are government owned or private; 2. a clear statement from the herders that they would cease all hostilities & be ready to pay compensations for farm lands destroyed in the interim before the ranches are established; 3. clear cut guidelines on the modalities through which the FG will assist the herders acquire the land, taxes to be paid, operational modalities etc; 4. the immediate withdrawal from lands presently occupied by the herders through violence; 5. FG should stop acting as a mouth piece for the herders... those who say the FG built irrigation dams, airports etc for businesses have a point, but those facilities belong to the government & not the private businesses making use of the facilities... to stop the killings, reason must prevail on all sides... 1 Like |

Did federal government build dam for anambra state farmers? Why haven't them started with the land provided for them by Kanu state government. You restrict southerners From doing certain business like alcoholic in the north but want them to accept your own business down south. Must there be ranch all over Nigeria, what stops them to start it from states like kanu, kastina. Yobe, kaduna first 5 Likes |

Empiree:And what stops then from converting all the land in NW and NE to grazing reserves? What concerns the south and part of NC with your wandering marauders private cattle business? Is there farming reserves, piggery reserves, Livestock(poultry) ranches exclusive for southerners in the north? It seems you're not getting the memo, irrespective of political affiliation, nobody in the south and the larger part of NC want to live with blood thirsty demon who values the life of cow than human life. Is that too hard to understand? or must we pass the message in Arabic or fulfulde before you understand? Grazing reserves will only be welcome in Yoruba land if and only if the operators will be anybody/anything but bloodthirsty Fulani herdsmen. kwa ji kwo 4 Likes |

Ovamboland:Govt built dams How many dams were built in the south? Majority of the dams were built in the north where they largely practice agriculture. So what is the business of cattle colonies in the South and NC when they are not cattle rearers? When will govt create livestock(poultry)/Piggery colonies across the country for southerners who are largely into livestock(poultry) farming, and also create farm settlements for the middle beltans? The fact remains that the federal government has been funding the greed and subsidizing the needs of the leeches up North since time immemorial. It's in record that every Agricultural program and policies always favours the north (mostly Hausa Fulani) While they receive free fertilizers and every other Agricultural incentives, their counterparts in the south source for it on their own, knowing fully well that this same northerners that receives handsout never pays taxes compared to well organized Agricultural sector in the South (most especially southwest). Go and ask how much poultry farms in the Oyo-Ogun axis pays as taxes annually despite their high cost of production compared to fulani wanderers that his only job is to lead cows into people's farm to graze? They don't spend money on anything except some few vaccines and they sell their cattles has high as 300k still they don't pay tax. still they want free land from the government, you think the rest of Nigerians are fools? If a poultry farmer in the south with capital base less than 1million can cater for himself and still pay taxes, Fulani cattle breeders with capital base close to a Billion should be able to fend for themselves. 6 Likes |

ivandragon: Good I only reply reasonable people with genuine interest in progress, not dunderheads who have no clue and serve as cogs in the wheel of progress. For me and as you have pointed out, the ranches should belong entirely to the FG or state government. I prefer the control and operation to be state affairs. The land title should remain with the state. Residential structure should be built by government and leased out, no village or shanty should be allowed in the reserve. Ensure that any resident can rent space in the reserve. Pass laws to restrict movement of cattle out side the ranches to trucks or vehicles. These are reasonable ways to engage the proposal and foster peace and development, rather than throw away the baby with the bath water. Let's offer suggestions to ameliorate the fears of Land grabbing or emirate declaration. |

Mylove55: maybe mouthpiece is extreme... but when you consider that the FG has been vehement in the condemnation of other 'troublesome' groups it leaves room for concern. pmb has made about 2 or 3 national speeches where he specifically condemned the major groups except the herdsmen... the FG must be seen as been fair to all. |

ivandragon: This is baseless. Alcohol has nothing to do with southern business but it's prohibited. It's not only southerners that sell alcohol. the key things are: Foolish talk. It will never work one sided. The farmers must also be ready to pay compensation for the cows they killed. 3. clear cut guidelines on the modalities through which the FG will assist the herders acquire the land, taxes to be paid, operational modalities etc; Herders won't acquire any land but government will do. It's irrational for individual to own a large peace of land as a grazing reserves. And when such herder dies, his children will claim the place. And the heirs can decide to change the reserve to Houses. Grazing Reserve are owned by government not private individuals.
Tell us the land they occupy? Herders that move from 1 place to another. How can they occupy land? 5. FG should stop acting as a mouth piece for the herders... Tell us who FG is doing that.
Arrant nonsense. Who says Grazing Reserve will be owned by herdmen? Same as Airport that is owned by government so as Grazing Reserve to which even you can go and rear your cattle. Nobody is buying and giving land to any person. The land belongs to FG when purchased |
