The story Nora gave is too implausible.....An identical world with 2% population will be in chaos and probably wont survive it.

Its safe to assume that some countries would have had everyone disappear and others everyone bar a few people.

How many planes would have crashed? On average they are 6,000 planes in the air at a time. How much of the 2% died this way?

How many nuclear plants would have gone into meltdown? The possibility that everybody disappeared from certain nuclear plants is very high. Secondly transportation to those sites by other teams would have been nigh impossible.

Most communications will go down within a few weeks. Disease and famine will kill a huge part of the 2% within a few years.

Where did the unborn fetuses go?

My kind of humor: crass, unapologetic, and fluid. This show should be on HBO to get more recognition.

Nope. A world with only 2% of the population will be an Utopia. At first, life will be hard, and way of life technology-wise will recede to circa 18/19 century cuz the few people left will be spread pretty thin and will not be able to handle all the fundamental facilities and systems serving a country, city, or other area, including the services and facilities necessary for its economy to function.

But if there is one thing humans are very good at, it is adapting. When there is no more pollutions, and less mouth to feed, the standard of life and human mortality would dramatically improved tremendously. Wars will cease overnight. Terrorism will be myth. Countries will have to forge closer diplomatic ties and trade ideas, foods and technologies since it's necessary for their mutual survival. 2% of the world population is highly sustainable.

mkmyers45:

Its safe to assume that some countries would have had everyone disappear and others everyone bar a few people.
United Nation will still function, and in time, few people left in the almost ghost countries will be absorbed by the ones with more sustainable populace. Problem solved.

mkmyers45:

How many planes would have crashed? On average they are 6,000 planes in the air at a time. How much of the 2% died this way?
2% of the earth population is a very tiny fraction of the population, so even if 6,000 planes were in the air when it happened, only a tiny fraction of the 2% would have found themselves stranded on an empty plane. Wouldn't be more than a few hundreds in total.

mkmyers45:

How many nuclear plants would have gone into meltdown? The possibility that everybody disappeared from certain nuclear plants is very high. Secondly transportation to those sites by other teams would have been nigh impossible.

An average nuclear plant can run for weeks unattended. And even if that fails, there are emergency procedures put in place for practically any john to shut it down in case of emergencies. A simple press of a designated button in the control room can effectively shut a nuclear plant down nowadays.

There are bound to be few nuclear plants that will explode of course, but the thing with nuclear plants are they are mostly constructed in isolated places where no one save for the workers live. And if there are only 2% of people left on earth, there is high probable chance that no one will even be affected by the meltdown at all.

mkmyers45:

Most communications will go down within a few weeks. Disease and famine will kill a huge part of the 2% within a few years.
Nope. People will learn to survive, and after a few years, the standard of live will be much more better than before.

mkmyers45:

Many will die, obviously.

You are being generous on how long it will take to bounce back from such a deficiency.....Some key professions will be lost for at least a generations. Since the disappearances are random, it is very possible that say all cardiologist are gone and a 2% population with naturally occurring cardiovascular rates will thin out pretty soon. This skills can obviously be re-learnt but the initial bottleneck will wipe out at least 50-90% of the 2%.

Again you are being generous, what stops China from trying to ursurp the UN and grab key resources from itself? Re-organization of law and order in this scenario will take too much time. Remember the first scene with the ambulance and emergency services flying up and down the streets. Who is going to do that now?

Factor in those on the road, those on sea, those in hospitals, those in hospices, the elderly, infants etc etc and you have a big chunk of the very vulnerable exposed to death within hours or days at the most. Expect a lot of dead kids especially given how remote the world is a la the 5 dead kids in Australia. The world is pretty remote and that alone will doom many

Granted this is true but again dont estimate the compound effect of atleast 10 plants meltdown. Power grid failure will be massive and occur almost everywhere.

The most improbable part of her story obviously is about the guy who built a copy machine to return her back. How did that work? Why didnt the guy build the machine since and re-unite families and make a ton of money doing so. Does not make sense

You're being way too harsh. 50-90% dying? c'mon now. There are bound to be casualties, it's a given, but nowhere near the percentage you postulated. I have a counter argument: What if a high number of competent cardiologist were among the 2%? What if most of the 2% are as healthy as a lam? In this scenerio, few casualties will be accrued, and the survivors will forge on and learn to adapt.

Every point has a counter-point. If China can usurp the UN (where she's already a permanent member) she could just as easily use her massive population advantage to send out humanitarian aids to countries heavily hit by the disappearance. China can be the big sister that could play a pivotal role in helping earth recover.

As for the ambulances and emergency services, people were surviving without them before in the 18 century, I'm pretty sure they can do without them for a short while as they relearn some of the needed skills to run this services.

You're being very grim. I don't really think it will be that dire, it's not like earth will be completely empty. Earth is overpopulated as it is, who knows, 2% may be the ideal population after all. Even if 50,000 people die from the aftermath, the number is still negligible to the millions of people that would survive.

mkmyers45:

A nuclear plant on meltdown can still generate electricity for years. When the Chernobyl nuclear plant started leaking and eventually went into full meltdown, it still generated electricity for years (14 years to be precise).

Also, there are alternative source of power generation that are more eco friendly and easy to run that would help the 2% tremendously: Solar, wind, dam, and coal.

The Expanse

Season 3

I love this show. It's my second favorite show based on series of books behind GoT. I would give the books on average as a series, a solid A-. I would give the show a B+. Books 1 and 2 are good. 3 and 4 are a slog (The mutiny/anti-mutiny/anti-anti-mutiny got old real fast and felt like they were there just to eat up words). Books 5 and 6 are fantastic and the best of the series, despite their lack of PM weirdness. Book 7 was just ok. Too many stupid decisions made by characters to advance the plot pissed me off, and to add to that, there were entire chapters with lots of words and nothing happening.

Having said all that, I think the show has masterfully pulled in characters/events from future books to allow the viewer time to get to know the characters better and tell a more cohesive story as they move from book to book.
am waiting for the next book by George R Martin...he can be a slow writer

It's crazy, but it isn't that hard to follow. It tells a story - granted, a complex weaving of webs, but a story nevertheless. I didn't have to put my thinking cap on like I did with Westworld season 2. More of a thrill ride though.

lol, when one is talking about a nice series abeg make Westworld shift jare, Westworld was only rated well because of the storyline that was built between few cast, peeps following Westworld still follows because we are already hooked.

I love the presentation aspect of Legion, that part a voice tells a story. The one that cut my attention the most is the one that enlightened about how Technology like a cell phone has made people start an illusion that's not even there which turns a good person to a bully, then depression.

Legion really deserve all the accolades. Farouk is my best character, that guy is a damn genius. He played everyone and got his body back.
