Why Do We Still Do This? by MissRaine69(f): 12:34pm On Jun 28, 2018 |
As a society that claims to be progressive and has produced a substantial amount of educated people , why do we still mutilate our women in the name of being virtuous? Female genital mutilation (FGM) is still rife in Nigeria, it is one of the few traditions that not only ruins lives but also accounts to the high maternal mortality rate in this country . There is only one tribe that is exempt from this tradition. I am keen to hear your thoughts and views as this is something I come across on a regular basis. Any men who have come across this and your views would be appreciated. |

Re: Why Do We Still Do This? by 2buffagain(m): 6:21pm On Jun 28, 2018 |
MissRaine69: Well, no luv, they can still be mothers because femsec is really about mutilating the clit so the woman has very little sexual pleasure. The womb itself is still very functional. If femsec is a "cultural" thing, They never would have made it about mutilating the womb as all things cultural for women usually boils down to childbirth at the end of all primitive thinking. 1 Like |

2buffagain:These women are now infertile as a result of an infection caused by FGM so children are out of the question. Lack of sexual pleasure is not the only complication. 1 Like |

if this fgm people want to make good success, drop sexual pleasure out of the campaign, since a lot of women haven't experienced it, they will not find it sensible, rather educate them on the other disadvantages since a lot of people only talk about orgasm when fgm is mentioned. fucck no be everything na |
Re: Why Do We Still Do This? by MissRaine69(f): 9:52pm On Jun 28, 2018 |
The general thought process behind FGM is not about orgasms. It is according to those that advocate it) about preserving a women’s virtue to to stop her carnal urges getting out of hand. Besides it depends on what type of circumcision has been performed. 2 Likes |

Re: Why Do We Still Do This? by Nitefury: 10:59pm On Jun 28, 2018 |
MissRaine69: The presence or absence of the lady's zip is not a requirement for conception Rainny. Several health risk? Does she face an increased risk of preterm labour? Is she likely to experience difficulties during childbirth? And probability of the baby dying as a result of the practice? YES. But not being able to conceive? FALSE. At least I know a couple of FGM "victims" married with kids |
Re: Why Do We Still Do This? by MissRaine69(f): 11:54pm On Jun 29, 2018 |
Nitefury: See this is my point exactly your sole view is just the removal of a clitoris are you aware of the complications associated with this procedure? Obviously not! Not all Clitoridectomys are successful, an infection that spreads, is not treated properly has devasting consequences and maybe this is why this still happens as you are set on a very one dimensional point of view. I have seen ( more than you I am 100% sure of this ) what complications look like, for instance clitorial keloid? Knowing a few people does not make you knowlegeable on the matter, it just makes you a person who knows a few people who have not had any complications that you are aware off. 2 Likes |

Ignorance. Parents want what's "best" for their children. In our society largely still, what's considered "best" for a girl child is finding a good husband and getting settled in family life. In order to do this, a girl's reputation usually needs to be impeccable because no man wants to be shamed by a woman who isn't "virtuous". Most men have an inexplicable fear of ridicule; no man wants to be laughed at. Least of all, over the fact that the woman whose head he has paid bride price on has slept with every guy in the room for free. This is one of the reasons why virginity is so dear. And as long as that's the case, parents and care-givers will consent to methods that give their daughters a better chance at keeping their "virtues". Women might have many virtues (for themselves they have the capability to live a happy life, and for the society they can add value through their vocation) but, unfortunately, they are still valued by the value they bring to men. Snipping a woman will kill her interest in sex. Hopefully. Therefore, she's less inclined to pursue sexual gratification for her own sake. But in marriage, because women are taught to be "dutiful" wives, they would still have sex even if it doesn't give them any pleasure, in order to please their husbands. That way, they get to keep their marriage intact. FGM is vile and it has to be stopped, but if we only attack FGM without addressing the values that necessitated this practice, we would only be putting a band-aid on the sore while the gangrene continues to fester. A woman should be valued for her personality and character, not for her purity as if she were a sacrificial lamb to be presented unblemished before a god. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

NightHound: There is no clear rational to given justify why it started. I agree with you that emphasis is placed on only a very small element and the whole picture is neglected for example some will be virgins but would have been engaging in anal sex on a regular basis all is not what it seems |

People that still do it should either be those that are undereducated about the danger the practise pose or ignoramuses that are hell bent on upholding the unassuming culture. Data has it that the trend is on a decline but, what monitoring mechanism is in place to do an up-to-date follow-up on the trend? To propel dispelling the menace, how fervent and rigorous is awareness? True the practise has been banned, who are the enforcement agencies? How seriously are they taking the job? These to me, are the looming questions and I don't think the Nigerian govt and relevant stakeholders have any standing answer to these question marks yet. |

MissRaine69: before gorging African technology you need to dig into the past in order to understand the future, my little research on FGM stipulate positive headways as the reason behind the FGM if its not carried out, any girl that had has intact will live more of LovePeddler like blazer naturally, yes it will be difficult for to attain orgasm but her G is M, decency is the outcome and main reason behind FGM, Imagine you seeing a cute guy in the open market, you will instantly get turned on and regardless of who is watching you will not be a factor to seduce him right there and let me pound a crap out of yaw..this will happen if your G is Not M Second factor is that you will hardly get satisfied sexualy wao! Imagine now that girl who have their G M still rarely get satisfied, it will be horror sex movie if your G is not M..
