Coach of Deportivo La Coruna Carmelo del Pozo says he has explained ‎to Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho the true context of the words he used in describing his demands for a starting spot few days ago.

While reacting to the position of Uzoho at the club after the signing of another goalkeeper in Ortola, the coach said the Nigerian won’t be his first choice due to several reasons which he has explained to the 19 year old.

Uzoho’s post on social media shortly after the manager’s comment suggest he was replying to the coach as he said ” We all Know What This Means Now”, although he later cleared the air on what the post is all about, insisting it’s nothing close to what the coach said.

Coach Carmelo didn’t stop there as he once again spared time during the unveiling of David Simon to criticise Uzoho once again, comments which many felt has racial connotations based on the context.

” I hope they do not forget that they are where they are thanks to Deportivo, because they opted for them, others coming from Africa when they did not have clothes or money”, a statement which immediately sparked a reply from Uzoho on his verified Twitter handle.

” I came to this world without clothes, so it’s not so bad that I also came to Europe without clothes. At home they taught me to choose my battle wisely”, he posted before he later deleted it.

The battle between the duo drew a response from the club president Tino Fernadez who even backed the Nigerian goalkeeper at the World Cup and subsequently apologised to him on the comments made by the coach.

” We apologise, and in fact it is very important for Francis to play. He cannot be third goalkeeper or even second, even if it’s a Primera team”, the president said during his take on the feud between the duo.

During the presentation of another new player in Domingos Duarte, the coach revealed that he spoke with Uzoho and aplogised to them about the comments which many viewed as a racist‎ remark.

” The next day I spoke with Francis and I gave him my explanations and aplogies. Our idea has not changed from the first day and it will not change “, the coach said, apparently referring to his decision on Uzoho as third choice for the first team but first choice for the B team in the third division.

This is a very racist comment.

One time record signing of English Premier League side Watford Isaac Success is close to agreeing a loan move to English Championship side Aston Villa, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.

Success has failed to nail down a regular spot in the Watford team since his big money move from LaLiga side Granada as he has struggled for form and fitness ‎due to issues ranging from injuries to poor personal lifestyle.

He spent the second half of last season on loan to Spanish side Malaga, who were eventually relegated from the top division in Spain and since his return to Watford he has impressed in pre season games.

His return to fitness was praised by the coach of Watford Xavi Gracia but even at that it ‎appears the coach has no spot for him in his immediate plans and he is willing to send him on loan to the Championship outfit.

Aston Villa are warming up to the prospect of losing Jack Grealish to a Premier League team before the close of the transfer window on Thursday in England, hence their decision to line up Success as a replacement as cover for his expected departure.

How does lying help us in any way? The truth can be hidden but not changed. Nigerians are going through hell. The crime rate is going up because of untold hardship. I am in development and I can tell you first hand. Go to public hospitals and see the amount of people that die daily due to the lack of good Medicare.

If to you saying the truth of the plight of Nigerians means saying thrash about the country, then I will keep saying thrash. I will stand for truth and not lies.

If we do not do something about the billions meant for Social welfare, job creation, Medicare provision, constant power supply etc, then things will keep getting worse.

Evil thrives when good do nothing about it, let alone lying to make it look like the crooks are angels.

Finito.

Agreed without reservation

Yes, Uzoho alluded to racism as to why he is not being allowed to be number 1. At least given a chance to be.

How many of the large percentage of Nigerians can attend these private Universities? We are third world if we can even provide good drinking water for our people. Forget electric trains or high tech cities.

No power or good drinking water. What is the percentage of these good parts?

Forget this long talk about private universities. Almost all of them are not even up to any standard. The other day I was with a friend who is lecturing in Landmark and he said that immediately after every exam you will see parents coning around to tell you that they paid millions as tuition fee so their wards cannot fail and what choice do you have? So they create a false sense of academic excellence but even there the learning structure is worse than it is in public schools. I find it appalling that people will want to talk about good schools and add private universities.

then is it hospitals that we will talk about? make we just leave matter for Mathias

Thank you! Sadly, our mentality says “My family and myself are doing well. So all is well”
We need to learn to speak the truth to ourselves. If you want to lie to foreigners, fine. But if we are gonna fix something here, it starts by telling ourselves the truth.

People and the use of unguarded words.

Nigeria a third world country?

Does some of you even know the definition of that word?

A country that gives aid both financially and otherwise to other countries a third world country?

Not organised- Yes
But a third world? Please go back to school.

For educational purposes: the word "third world" is outdated and ambiguous. What we have are (1) Developed countries (2) Developing countries and (3) Underdeveloped countries.

You can decide where you think Nigeria belong based on your current reality.

Very untrue. You cannot generalize when it comes to private universities, take it from me. It’s not business as usual in every school. As it stands it’s private universities that would save Nigeria’s tertiary education. As ironic as that may sound, mark my words. I know a private university that graduates fully baked students ready for the REAL world. Many of these graduates who take up running businesses are doing fine. Solid education no be about read and pour out for exam. Take it from me.

Nigeria is not a third world country but sadly we are heading towards that direction as the features of 3rd world countries have started showing up daily in our everyday lives. The only thing still holding us above the 3rd world line is civil unrest. I really hope it does not get to that stage. I really hope

“What makes a nation third world?
Despite everevolving definitions, the concept of the third world serves to identify countries that suffer from high infant mortality, low economic development, high levels of poverty, low utilization of natural resources, and heavy dependence on industrialized nations. These are the developing and technologically less advanced nations of Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America. Third world nations tend to have economies dependent on the developed countries and are generally characterized as poor with unstable governments and having high rates of population growth, illiteracy, and disease. A key factor is the lack of a middle class — with impoverished millions in a vast lower economic class and a very small elite upper class controlling the country's wealth and resources. Most third world nations also have a very large foreign debt.

no good roads, transport system, electricity and water...even the interest rate is so high to discoucrage any unemployed from sourcing to start up business....loans are only made available to affluent individuals who can part way wit huge sums as bribe.
even the democracy we claim to practise has done us no good rather an avenue for some looters to loot the public coffers dry.

Nigeria is a poor, corrupt and complicated third world country.

I was working with an Organization who wanted to bring some major energy investments to Africa. I tried to suggest Nigeria but they were reluctant because Nigeria is too 'complicated'. They would rather do the projects in smaller African countries or a "progressive" state within Nigeria not national level.

Our GDP is the highest in Africa but it is peanuts per capita. We have one of the lowest electricity generation per capita on the continent. We are plagued with unemployment, disease and crime. What exactly makes us not 3rd world.

In 2011, i wanted to rent a house but when the landlady learnt that i was originally from Nigeria, she immediately became suspicious and was making some crazy requests. Apparently, she was almost duped by yahoo yahoo from Nigeria. This is the kind of image that we create for ourselves all over the world. Criminals, drug dealers, prostitutes etc..

We have so many talented people within and outside Nigeria but the environment does not help them thrive or reach their potential. Mediocrity is celebrated, Corruption is a culture. A person who tries to do the right thing is public enemy number 1. The people are only interested in public office to make money. Political officers flaunt their stolen wealth to us and they still have hoards of supporters. We enable, support and cheer the corruption that holds us back as a country.

So yes, Nigeria is a third world country and unless we get serious minded people in the right places, it will remain the same for a long time.

Nigeria fits all of those definitions.

Large debt, check
Poor health, infant mortality, check
High population growth, check
Dependence on foreign aid, check

Every index, you will find Nigeria in the lower half.
