BUA Group To Establish Cement Factory In Ebonyi

BUA Group on Wednesday said it was commencing core drilling in Ebonyi preparatory to establishing a cement plant in the state.
The Group Managing Director of the company, Kabiru Rabiu, announced this in Abakaliki, the state capital, when he led the management team of the firm on a visit to Governor Dave Umahi.
Mr. Rabiu expressed surprised that the state has no functional cement factory despite having enormous limestone deposit.
Limestone is the major raw material used in the production of cement.
Mr Rabiu further noted that coal, a necessary energy needed for cement production is also in abundance in the state.
He noted that the state was also strategically located for cement production.
“We are planning to set up a cement plant here in Ebonyi state,” the nusinessman said. “The state is actually the host of the first cement plant in Nigeria, the NIGERCEM but it is quite surprising that today there is no single operational cement plant not only in Ebonyi state but in the entire eastern part of Nigeria.
“We are here because the state is blessed. It has a huge deposit of limestone which is very high in quality. The state also has coal which is a necessary energy needed for cement production.
“The state is strategically located; it is close to Enugu, close to Cross River State, close to the Middle Belt. I mean the local government where these deposits are located is very close to Benue, which is in the Middle Belt.
“Your Excellency, when we were coming into the state, we saw a road being built with concrete (concrete road) by your administration which goes along way to show your commitment to infrastructure and we also found out about the development of the ring road which is also about 150kms and we learnt that it is going to be built by concrete.
“So, naturally, the state is a market itself not only being positioned in a strategic location but also a large consumption of cement is going to be undertaken by the zone.
“We are really excited about the state, about the location, about the quality and the volume of the limestone you have for cement production here in Ebonyi State.”
Responding, Governor Umahi assured the group of total support by providing enabling environment for the company to operate.
He said the state was proposing a law to protect investors in the state.

Let me see those ignorant fellows who will come and tell me that BUA cement is fake just because it is owned by a northerner. A cement plant is well overdue in Ebonyi state and when we thought it was going to be Ibeto that will run the cement Industry in the east, BUA has come to take over. God bless BUA group of company for me.

I love that BUA cement group.

They are NOTHING like Dangote who makes FAKE cement and dump it in the SE market.

Just take a census of the number of buildings that have collapsed in the SE and see the cement they were using for the construction -DANGOTE!
In advanced countries, he would have been made to pay damages and compensation on loss of lives for his fake cement. But this is Nigeria where criminal get Federal Government protection and they continue their criminal production of substandard cement.

Which town in Ebonyi state, or they have not decided on the location?

Then, when?

This is a good development but the news is incomplete. It kind of looks like something rushed. BUA, I am sure has a business development unit which might have conducted a survey in partnership with Ebonyi state government and by the time the MD is coming, it should be for final negotiations and signing of documents. We don't need news reports, we need the cement factory starting production.

Like a predator surreptitiously entraps it's prey tactically, so should the stakeholders of enyimba industrial city and abia state government tenaciously mount an aggressive follow up like bonny clings unto clide to see to the materialization of this investment. They gotta see this as an indispensable opportunity.

Sino - African multilateral economic diplomacy-FOCAC presents more crystallization, as FGN meets with the ruyi group horsemen. They're about to set up industrial Parks worth $ 200 m in Kano katsina, lagos and abia

Geometric energy already had mou with the group, so more assiduousity is needed to realise the deals.

Abia stop slumbering, wake up, it's time to get busy, do the do, and walk the damn talk without foot dragging, time is money, we can't afford to be a minute late!

Well noted sir but the aspersions being casted on Dangote have absolutely nothing to do with his ethnicity but everything to do with the suspect quality of his products. This is also coupled with his aversion to invest in Igboland. That he has one of his largest warehouses and distribution chain in Igboland but never deemed it fit to open even a laboratory there gave him away for whom he is inspite of the long years of undue but sectional executive fiat he got almost to the point of insanity. There is more limestone deposits in Ebonyi state than Obajana but he chosed the latter and has never even taken a casual investment look at the former.
And what was that your "BUA has come to take over" jab of yours? Ibeto is a bigger player than BUA and has already taken over the chunk of the existing productive plant (NIGERCEM Nkalagu) so no biggie. Above all,to correct a subtle impression of yours,Igboland has never either through government policies or cultural inclination being resistant to foreign or "foreign local" investment . The competition is stiff and chocking coupled with long years of demonic narratives meant to demarket her investment potentialities. Recently, the world has come to know where true industrialization and manufacturing happen. Welcome to Alaigbo Alhaji Kabiru Rabiu!

Well said. Some people think igbos complain about dangote just because he is Hausa. This is pure nonsense. Igbos hate when someone gets to a position unfairly. BUA group is more than welcome as long as they don’t use the power of the federal government to give themselves advantages that are not afforded to igbo businesses.

Nice post, the competition will be so high to the extent that the price will go down and that will be an advantage to the average income earner who wants to build a house in the village.cheesy

As usual, BUA will import a lot of almajiris to take up jobs at the plant no doubt. A new almajiri ghetto will spring up around the community near the plant site. New mosques to serve them will be built in the area, many fulani cattles will move in to graze in the farms near the site and ebonyi farmers who resist them will have their heads chopped off! Calamity disguising itself as BUA cement plant is knocking on the door of ebonyi.

Abdulsamad Rabiu appears to be a fair minded person...that's all we ever ask for! Much better than those who only think of establishing giant warehouse in the region to sell products manufactured somewhere else.

Ebony is now poised to host two giant cement manufacturing plants...and this is just for starters! With the planned airport, this state is one to watch in the next five years!

Ndigbo are fully aware that Dangote does not want to build any factory in the east and once BUA cement plant is completed, I just pity Dangote cement in the east because many people will boycott Dangote cement to buy BUA cement that is made in Igbo land.

Actually if anyone said anything bad about this great investment in Igboland it will be that guy and Chino using their numerous monikers. I don't trust either of those Igbo haters. They have too many monikers to count. But their style of writing and same punctuation error always give them away.

Umahi is doing fine infra-structurally. But he should be very wary and take a firm position on herdsmen rampage incursion into the state. He should never maintain a soft spot, never. Ebonyians are mostly farmers, and heavily dependent on rice farming, which is difficult to cultivate. We don't want a repeat of Benue in Ebonyi. In a nutshell, security, particularly in rural areas, should be among his top priority.
Truth is that they're lots of mis-information about Ebonyi State. The issue of herdsmen is actually a major challenge not just in Ebonyi but the entire Igbo land, but truth remains that they are some communities that are no go areas for herdsmen in Ebonyi State; they dare not step their toes on Amasiri land, else something terrifying follows immediately. In fact Amasiri allowed the establishment of police post few years back in their town to tell you how serious there are.
