Our agricultural resources include economic and food crops which are the bases of modern civilization, not to mention fruits and vegetables which flourish in the tropics!

Our mineral resources include coal, lignite, lead, antimony, iron, diatomite, clay, oil, tin! Our forest products include timber of economic value, including iroko and mahogany!

Our fauna and flora are marvels of the world! Our land is blessed by waterways of world renown, including the River Niger, Imo River, Cross River! Our ports are among the best known in the continent of Africa. Yet in spite of these natural advantages, which illustrate without doubt the potential wealth of the Ibo, we are among the least developed in Nigeria, economically, and we are so ostracized socially, that we have become extraneous in the political institutions of Nigeria.

If you are ever in doubt that we have come in full circle to exactly where we were in 1948, look at the final sentence of this part of the speech.

It's almost like Zik was making this speech in 2018, yet it was made 70yrs ago. Just let this sink in, and ponder.

I have not come here today in order to catalogue the disabilities which the Ibo suffer, in spite of our potential wealth, in spite of our teeming man-power, in spite of our vitality as an indigenous African people; suffice it to say that it would enable you to appreciate the manifest destiny of the Ibo if I enumerated some of the acts of discrimination against us as a people. Socially, the British Press has not been sparing in describing us as ‘the most hated in Nigeria’. In this unholy crusade, the Daily Mirror, The Times, The Economist, News Review and the Daily Mail have been in the forefront. In the Nigerian Press, you are living witnesses of what has happened in the last eighteen months, when Lagos, Zaria and Calabar sections of the Nigerian Press were virtually encouraged to provoke us to tendentious propaganda. It is needless for me to tell you that today, both in England and in West Africa, the expression ‘Ibo’ has become a word of opprobrium.

The Nigerian press had continued even unto today to promote Igbophobia and Ndiigbo are even on this very forum, constantly provoked to "tendentious propaganda".

Igbo is being constantly projected as the "most hated tribe" in Nigeria.

It's 2018, yet it looks like its still 1948, remember there was no Nzeogwu coup until 1966. Incredible.

Politically, you have seen with your own eyes how four million people were disenfranchized by the British, for decades, because of our alleged backwardness. We have never been represented on the Executive Council, and not one Ibo town has had the franchise, despite the fact that our native political institutions are essentially democratic—in fact, more democratic than any other nation in Africa, in spite of our extreme individualism.
Economically, we have laboured under onerous taxation measures, without receiving sufficient social amenities to justify them.

We have been taxed without representation, and our contributions in taxes have been used to develop other areas, Out of proportion to the incidence of taxation in those areas. It would seem that we are becoming a victim of economic annihilation through a gradual but studied process. What are my reasons for cataloguing these disabilities and interpreting them as calculated to emasculate us, and so render us impotent to assert our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Igboland is heavily taxed today. Too many Nigerian police and military road blocks all over our roads, taxing us to death , increasing the price of fares and goods, as Drivers have to add the extra costs incurred in "settling" the road blocks to our fares and the traders have to add the fares to our goods. The end result is that we buy goods at higher price.
We don't have a fully functional international airport, our road networks are left undone, our economic annihilation have been insidious and devastating.

Look at the current constitution of the FEC today. Not a single Igbo man is there. Yet we rep at least 1/6 of the country population. Our political disfranchisement has been profound and dumbfounding.

Look at what happened in Aba, right under our noses, there has indeed been a calculated "effort to emasculate us, and so render us impotent to assert our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"?

I shall now state the facts which should be well known to any honest student of Nigerian history. On the social plane, it will be found that outside of Government College at Umauhia, there is no other secondary school run by the British Government in Nigeria in Ibo-land.

There is not one secondary school for girls run by the British Government in our part of the country. In the Northern and Western Provinces, the contrary is the case. If a survey of the hospital facilities in Ibo-land were made, embarrassing results might show some sort of discrimination.

Outside of Port Harcourt, fire protection is not provided in any Ibo town. And yet we have been under the protection of Great Britain for many decades!
On the economic plane, I cannot sufficiently impress you because you are too familiar with the victimization which is our fate. Look at our roads; how many of them are tarred, compared, for example, with the roads in other parts of the country? Those of you who have travelled to this assembly by road are witnesses of the corrugated and utterly unworthy state of the roads which traverse Ibo-land, in spite of the fact that four million Ibo people pay taxes in order, among others, to have good roads. With roads must be considered the system of communications, water and electricity supplies. How many of our towns, for example, have complete postal, telegraph, telephone and wireless services, compared to towns in other areas of Nigeria? How many have pipe-borne water supplies? How many have electricity undertakings? Does not the Ibo tax-payer fulfill his civic duty? Why, then, must he be a victim of studied official victimization

Same story of neglect.

The only worthwhile stand we can make as a nation is to assert our right to self-determination, as a unit of a prospective Federal Commonwealth of Nigeria and the Cameroons, where our rights will be respected and safeguarded. Roughly speaking, there are twenty main dialectal regions in the Ibo nation, which can be conveniently departmentalized as Provinces of an Ibo State, to wit: Mbamili in the northwest, Aniocha in the west, Anidinma and Ukwuani in the southeast, Nsukka and Udi in the north, Awgu, Awka and Onitsha in the centre, Ogbaru in the south, Abakaliki and Afikpo in the northwest, Okigwi, Orlu, Owerri and Mbaise in the east, Ngwa, Bende, Abiriba Ohafia and Etche in the southwest. These Provinces can have their territorial boundaries delimited, they can select their capitals, and then can conveniently develop their resources both for their common benefit and for those of the other nationalities who make up this great country called Nigeria and the Cameroons.

Here, Zik exhibited impeccable knowledge of the true boundaries and clans of the Igbo nation.
How many of the current political jobbers/political office holders, masquerading as political leaders in Igboland know the true extent of Ala Igbo outside the SE? Even with the Advantage of Internet? Yet Zik knew them All in 1948. This should tell you the level of dearth in quality leadership we suffered after the war, when the victors subverted our true leaders and in their place, raised entities of despicable character and intellect, and foisted them on us gradually as political office holders.

Zik was right in recognizing the fact that Ndiigbo needed self determination in 1948, but without knowledge of hindsight, he errenously felt this self determination would be achieved and protected within the Nigerian context, instead of within an independent republic of Alaigbo. Hence Zik set us on a cyclic path that returned us back to where he met us in 1948 ,70yrs later. He chose the part of Nigeria Independence and unity.

What lesson is there for us to learn? Repeat Zik mistakes under a different nomenclature called "restructuring" or correct his mistakes by working on the everlasting solution of self determination?
The path towards progress for Ndiigbo is clear, if we only let our history and current realities guide us.

The keynote in this address is self-determination for the Ibo. Let us establish an Ibo State, based on linguistic and ethnic factors, enabling us to take our place side by side with the other linguistic and ethnic groups which make up Nigeria and the Cameroons. With the Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri, Yoruba, Ibibio (Iboku), Angus (Bi-Rom), Tiv, Ijaw, Edo, Urhobo, ltsekiri, Nupe, Igalla, Ogaja, Gwari, Duala, Bali and other nationalities asserting their right to self-determination each as separate as the fingers, but united with others as a part of the same hand, we can reclaim Nigeria and the Cameroons from this degradation which it has pleased the forces of European imperialism to impose upon us. Therefore, our meeting today is of momentous importance in the history of the Ibo, in that opportunity has been presented to us to heed the call of a despoiled race, to answer the summons to redeem a ravished continent, to rally forces to the defence of a humiliated country, and to arouse national consciousness in a demoralized but dynamic nation.

And this was the beginning of the end. It was when Zik zeroed his mind on a retrogressive cyclic path that led us to exactly where he met us, today.

3. There is a reason u.s is a powerful nation. The power in number and diversity can not be wished away. Nigeria has the number, diversity and resourses to be the most powerful nation in africa...a potential igbo nation lacks that.
4. As years go, igbos will come to dominate nigeria with time.

I will only wish that Anioma state can be created as south east's 6th state. And i hope it would also possibly include the non-ikwerre parts of rivers state so that with that one move, we would recapture as much igboland as feasible for south east.

I also wish for the 6 geopolitical zones to be recognised as the new regions like in the 60s, with full devolved powers.

In that way, igboland will be under the umbrella of south east and will be fully self-governing even if within nigeria. In that way, we eat our cake and still have it.

I believe that there is an emerging consensus for self determination as the path for the survival of our people. The key difference in opinions is mainly tactical.

Not withstanding the tactical considerations, two key facts must be faced;

1. We need to get rid of the present crop of political office holders in the SE. The events of last year is proof that the enemies within are even more of a hindrance than any external threats.

In this light therefore, I believe it’s time for IPOB and similar groups to re-examine the decision to boycott political participation in Nigeria. I am beginning to believe that this decision plays into the hands of these carpet baggers cum efulefus. These organizations need to come together, identify capable, authentic Igbo leaders and support those for political offices.

2. We need to realize that the rich world does not give sufficient a shit about Africa to care about justice on this continent. They expect injustice, barbarity and occasional mass murders. The civil war should’ve taught us that. We need to realize therefore that might is right and if we want to achieve our objectives, we can only rely on ourselves. It’s pure delusion to think that UN or anyone is going to grant us anything.

IMO therefore, the steps to take are; Seize back the political leadership of Igboland from the current crop of imposters. Thereafter, we work hard to build an economic powerhouse in our homeland. After achieving these, we can then have the resources to make the appropriate tactical choices for self determination.

Recall that 3 years earlier in 1945 before this address,the first organised Igbo massacre took place in Jos. That was the context that informed the tone of this discourse by Zik. Igbophobia was already a covert state policy and Zik felt the need to galvanise and redirect our people. Again,interventions like this ought to be the focus of Ohaneze Ndigbo. Nnia Nwodo held a lot of promise and has a plethora of sound minds at his disposal he can deploy to steer this ship.It is time to wean ourselves from the psychology of defeat and shame the Civi war inflicted.

Air Peace to Commence Dubai/Sharjah Operations in November

Nigeria’s largest domestic operator, Air Peace has announced that it would commence operations to Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, UAE by November this year.

The airline which has acquired aircraft to operate the destination, said it would be its long-haul service before embarking on other international destinations.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the airline, Allen Onyema in Lagos at the weekend.

According to him, Air Peace has been designated on long-haul flight to London, Houston, Mumbai, Dubai, Sharjah, Guangzhou-China and Johannesburg by the federal government.
Onyema, said the airline was expected to fly directly from Lagos-Paris, Lagos-Frankfurt, Lagos-Amsterdam , Milan, Abuja-Jeddah, Kano-Dubai, Enugu-London.

The Air Peace boss said the airline was ready to compete with international carriers with modern aircraft and efficient service and make Nigeria proud by giving Nigerian travellers what they yearn for, noting that Air Peace is an airline they can call their own with the best of services and pocket friendly airfares.

He promised to be consistent on the route, assuring that Air Peace will not fall by the wayside like other airlines that have entered the route but did not survive though might not be a fault of theirs.

Onyema emphasised that the airline is ready to fill the gap that government was worried about, saying that was the reason the airline acquired enough aircraft.

“We want to fill those gaps being occupied by international carriers coming to Nigeria, we want to represent this country proudly, Nigerians will be proud like Americans are proud of their indigenous airlines, flying the flag of America outside America proudly,” he said.

He explained that a formidable airline out of the Middle East is presently interlining and code sharing with Air Peace and currently integrating their system with the indigenous carrier.

“When we drop you in Dubai or Sharjah, another airline picks you from there; maybe, you are going to Malaysia, they are going to about 36 cities in India, so people will buy Air Peace ticket if you are going to Malaysia, India, some other Gulf States, Indonesia and others. You buy Air Peace ticket, check-in your luggage, you get your luggage in Singapore, we take you there, we have signed an interlining and code-share”.

1. Agreed, the north is not willing to let any part of the country go without a fight. What I do not understand is you suggesting an alliance with the SS and SW if the SE hopes to defeat the rest of the north.

Please, learn from history. During warfare, allegiances are fluid. They change a lot, depending on prevailing situations and interests. If I were to launch into narrating how the SW reneged on a pact with Ojukwu to also declare their own republic, which would be openly supported by Biafra, it would take a whole page here. As for the role played by the SS during that horrible period, still read your history. Its all in print.

You still seem to think that modern warfare is a game of numbers: he with the largest army wins. Well, that was in the past. Superior weaponry and technology wins war now, not the number of your foot soldiers.

Banking on an alliance with SW or elements of the SS is suicide at best, especially with people who betrayed you in the past, and presently still abhorr you for whatever reason.

Air Peace to Commence Dubai/Sharjah Operations in November

Nigeria’s largest domestic operator, Air Peace has announced that it would commence operations to Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, UAE by November this year.

The airline which has acquired aircraft to operate the destination, said it would be its long-haul service before embarking on other international destinations.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the airline, Allen Onyema in Lagos at the weekend.

According to him, Air Peace has been designated on long-haul flight to London, Houston, Mumbai, Dubai, Sharjah, Guangzhou-China and Johannesburg by the federal government.

The Air Peace boss said the airline was ready to compete with international carriers with modern aircraft and efficient service and make Nigeria proud by giving Nigerian travellers what they yearn for, noting that Air Peace is an airline they can call their own with the best of services and pocket friendly airfares.

He promised to be consistent on the route, assuring that Air Peace will not fall by the wayside like other airlines that have entered the route but did not survive though might not be a fault of theirs.

Onyema emphasised that the airline is ready to fill the gap that government was worried about, saying that was the reason the airline acquired enough aircraft.

“We want to fill those gaps being occupied by international carriers coming to Nigeria, we want to represent this country proudly, Nigerians will be proud like Americans are proud of their indigenous airlines, flying the flag of America outside America proudly,” he said.

He explained that a formidable airline out of the Middle East is presently interlining and code sharing with Air Peace and currently integrating their system with the indigenous carrier.

I believe that there is an emerging consensus for self determination as the path for the survival of our people. The key difference in opinions is mainly tactical.

Not withstanding the tactical considerations, two key facts must be faced;

1. We need to get rid of the present crop of political office holders in the SE. The events of last year is proof that the enemies within are even more of a hindrance than any external threats.

In this light therefore, I believe it’s time for IPOB and similar groups to re-examine the decision to boycott political participation in Nigeria. The consensus isn't for self determination, the consensus is a TRULY FEDERAL Structure with the 6 Geopolitical regions as federating units, while we keep the present states structure as administration zones. The Present SE Geopolitical region can call itself by any name including - Biafra. Just as a piece of land is called Anambra State or Bauchi State. But that territory is still a federating unit of the country called Nigeria.


The problem with Nigeria had been over concentration of powers in the Federal Government which is usually abused and creates ethnic suspicion and tension. In addition, each state will now look for ingenious ways to fund itself. The biggest disservice Igbos do to themselves is the mental inferiority complex that somehow Lagos, Kano or Abuja is better than anywhere in their home region. So they keep investing in these strange places to the detriment of their region. No other group in Nigeria consider other places better than their homeland.

The second problem is that the SE Governors have not made investing in the SE easy. I commend Obiano A LOT in this area for having a ONE-STOP location where an investor will get all approvals needed to start their business. The other SE governors should emulate that. It is hypocritical to call on people to invest in the SE while you know it is a mission impossible because all approvals and processes are so disorganized that nobody can reasonably maneuver through them.
