Obi1kenobi: I'm still trying to get my head around the fact a so called Igbo man is advancing this argument for why AIIA Enugu has been relegated to the back burner while the one in Kano is being promoted and assisted with federal might to be one of the 1st tier airports! If the north east can't fight for their interest does that mean i as an Igbo man should now be content with the demotion in status AIIA has received under this Buhari/APC gov't? You people are quite adept at adducing reasons why certain regions get better treatment and more resources than others....making up reasons and excuses as you go along! Why the fuc/k should Igbos be denied a int'l gateway of equal status with the ones in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano just because they have a smaller landmass than the Hausa-Fulani or Yoruba? On the day of independence, there were three major ethnic groups of Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo, and there was the federal capital and regional capitals in Kaduna, Ibadan and Enugu. Each of the three major ethnic groups had cities in their regions which they nurtured and saw as the pride of their regions. The Yoruba had Ibadan, and when the federal capital moved to Abuja they moved in to claim Lagos as theirs; the Hausa-Fulani had Kaduna and Kano; the Igbo had Enugu and Port Harcourt. The machinations by the other two against the Igbo in the lead-up and during the uncivil war eventually removed Port Harcourt from Igbo influence and handed it over to the Ijaw, while encouraging the Igbos left within River state to deny the Igbo heritage.....this now left Igbos with only Enugu. Now any neutral reading this would say in the interest of fairness and equity that Enugu should be given equal status as Lagos, Kano, Kaduna and Port Harcourt since that is all they have left, but not the likes of you! You'd rather Ndigbo go down to Port Harcourt and share with the Ijaws, Ogbas, Ikwerres, etc! Share with people who haven't hidden their disdain, suspicion and hatred for Igbos! If you were in the shoes of Ndigbo, would you accept this? I know for a fact the Yoruba and Fulani wouldn't and would kick up a storm if forced to do so! Fact remains that Nigeria is a jungle where it's every man for himself, and if you argue that Ndigbo should be dumb enough to forgo fighting for a int'l gateway in their region of equal status with the ones in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt, while the other two major ethnic groups are sitting pretty in their own regions with 1st tier int'l gateways, then you are nothing short of wicked! Remember you lot have connived to take away Port Harcourt from us, so you should quit you bad-belle and allow us face what we know to be ours.....ie, AIIA Enugu! The stupid argument of landmass or no landmass is neither here nor there...why should i as an Igbo man go without b'cos the north has useless large landmass? I hope people that argue against the IPOB and Biafran issues can now see why Igbos are angry and feel cheated? On the issue of Senator Oduah...you couldn't be further off the mark even if you tried! Ndigbo love that woman for all she did....and tried to do before being prematurely hounded out of office before she could complete the actualisation of the vision she had for airports in the country! In addition to giving us a new int'l terminal at Enugu, it was under her watch that the first int'l flight since the late 60s landed at Enugu! I remember the runway at AIIA was done too during her tenure as aviation minister, but as we've since learnt, the job wasn't done satisfactorily...and i put this down to the kind of people we have running things in the civil and public service. The runways integrity was compromised either through incompetence or blatant corruption of those responsible for monitoring quality of work done. I'm sure if she had continued as minister, the issue of the runway would have been revisited and done properly. A country cannot rise above the mentality and quality of personnel running its affairs; whether in politics, business or the public/civil service! 12 Likes 3 Shares |

We became so invested in dealing with the hate emanating from Yoruba and Arewa that we forgot to educate ourselves about these people. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

I wish our parents raised us with hate towards them the same way they were raised with hate towards us. Xander85: What you're writing has nothing to do with what I said. I am not saying we should not fight for an international airport. Every zone and every state have a moral right to fight for whatever they wish. I'm just pointing out the reasonable political calculations motivating the decisions made by the central government, other than simply assuming them to be motivated by Igbo hatred. If any dispassionate, neutral national strategist was to pick 4 national airports to upgrade to decent international status on a tight budget, Lagos, Abuja, Kano and PH would be the rational choices. Lagos and Abuja are self-explanatory due to their strategic importance to the nation and passenger traffic. Kano serves a massive catchment of the 13 NW and NE states, states some of which are bigger than the whole SE combined in landmass. PH serves the SE and SS, Nigeria's smallest regions, and 3 of those SE states (Imo, Abia and a small strip of Anambra) share borders with Rivers state. Nothing stops anyone lobbying for upgrading of our airports to viable international status. Nothing even stops us building ours. Just make an attempt to understand decisions before casting sinister, anti-Igbo motives on the government. 1 Like |

Obi1kenobi: Even Hitler thought he had 'reasonable political calculations motivating the decisions' he made! History is there for all to judge whether those 'calculations' were just or not! The arguments you're making are ones i've heard before...problem is, they didn't come from an Igbo man! If a Hausa-Fulani had made these same arguments you make, i'd have read them and moved on. Why i'm engaging you is b'cos you claim to be Igbo, yet are able to justify AIIA being downgraded to a 2nd tier airport behind the ones in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt! I've told you we're in Nigeria...a dog-eat-dog jungle where it's every man for himself and you want to bring 'reason' into the discussion? Where was reason when they were constructing a pipeline all the way to the north just to build a refinery in Kaduna...far away from it's source of raw material? Weren't you taught in secondary school that industries are best located near the source of their raw materials....that is unless of course said industry is located in 'one Nigeria'! Where was reason when they were locating almost the entire economy and economic enablers like seaports, airports and industries in just one tiny state while other states in the same south were left to look on like mugus? Where was reason when a country voted in a coup-plotting, vindictive geriatric in the name of 'change'? I could go on and on! It's only when Ndigbo demand their own that you scream 'hold on a minute....you can't do that as it goes against 'Nigerian reasonableness' so you better perish the thought'! 9 Likes 3 Shares |

iLoveAnambra: Ogba people too are from Benin? Benin seems to have sired a lot of baastard children. Seems everyone in the Niger Delta apart from Ekoid groups claim Bini ancestry. As for the emboldened, I wish it were true, but it isn't. Too many Igbos expend far too much effort on Igboid groups with identity crises. This only succeeds in hardening the resolve of these groups and they adopt a siege mentality against what they believe to be an external threat. It also flatters their egos and makes them feel rather important to believe we care that much about them. They wouldn't spend so much time dissociating themselves from the Igbo nation if we stop trying to shove our identity down their throats. Leave the identity debates to their intellectuals to argue over. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Xander85: Ah.....Godwin's law. Wetin concern Hitler for here now? Again, you seem to misunderstand the crux of the argument. I have not said anywhere it is unreasonable to demand an international airport. Enugu can demand. Imo's airport with more traffic than Enugu can demand an international status upgrade. Borno, as the major hub of the North East can demand theirs. There are a lot of competing interests. And I'm pointing out there are genuine reasons of good faith that may have influenced the FG to pick the 4 airports they chose, rather than reflexively attributing it to Igbo hatred or deliberate attempts to marginalize us. I don't know if you've heard the tale of the boy who cried "wolf", but if we keep crying "marginalization!" or "discrimination!" or "igbophobia!" all the time, they eventually lose their power of persuasion. The political reality on ground is we are not a core part of this APC governing coalition, so don't expect perfect equality. The NW and SW will benefit more because they voted this government to power and consequently populate the strategic decision-making positions. If we're proud to say we gave this government 3% of its vote, don't expect the same treatment as those that gave it 45% or 35%. 1 Like 1 Share |

horsepower101: We were not raised to hate them. I got emotional when I read this statement. It is the absolute truth. The typical Igbo has no time to hate or be antagonistic to any tribe in Nigeria or elsewhere. This is largely due to the fact that our parents haven't the luxury or time to afford this. That is both a strength and weakness. After the devastation of the war, the paramount instinct is survival. Igbo land was decimated, and our people had to bury their resentments and pains and forge ahead. Igbos became more Nigerian than any other ethnic group in the country. We spread out and we assimilate. Growing up in a heterogeneous society in Lagos, I never heard my parents talk ill of any tribe. I spoke Yoruba more fluently than my native tongue. It got embarrassing when I realized I stutter when trying to speak Igbo in public. This reason made me decide to go to university in the SE and reconnect with my root. Its a decision I cherish till this day, as it opened up a lot of opportunities for me. Also made me realize the situation a typical Igbo has to deal with within the context of a Nigerian I don't hate. Its just that I know enough now to be wary. Sometimes, I wonder how things would have turned out if we were raised with the milk of hate towards other groups. I just mentioned that I wouldn't invest in Rivers state for any reason. I became aware of the "abandoned properties" saga in PH after the war when I read it in a book. I asked my father about it, and he just laughed over it. He made a snide comment about people who couldn't build a decent house to save their own lives pouncing on the properties of war victims in their absence, and how his brother was affected. Isn't it ironic that Igbos lost their properties and investment to people not from the north or southwest, but to those who shared historical kinship with them? Yet, till this day, such people still feel resentment towards igbos. I don't wish to understand their reason anymore. I've tried to before, but didn't yield much answers. Your haters themselves are not sure why they hate you. It is mostly because their parents brought them up that way. I think its mostly a good thing Igbos aren't raised to hate. Hate is a handicap. That handicap has seen Igbos dominate businesses in such areas.....because Igbos don't give a fvck, as someone just said. 9 Likes 2 Shares |
