The Nun 8/10.

Dammit, I hate watching horror movies especially at night. The Nun is scariest and most interesting in the Conjuring franchise for me.

The Nun employed jump-scares to scare the audience, and I'm completely desensitized to that particular brand of horror. Jump scare is tantamount to tickling someone with your hands, thereby, physically persuading them to laugh against their will. It's a cheap tactics.

But I thought jump scares were integral framework of the horror movies. Because most horror movies uses it. They strike fear into viewers.

Finshed Ant Man and the Wasp and I realized movies are already transforming our thinking with feminism.

Every movie is now selling Feminism to us and either we like it or not in the next 10 years women would be more empowered than the men

Jump-scare in horror is just lazy writing. Look at it this way; it's 99% guaranteed that you'd score a penalty without a goalie manning the post, no? All you gotta do is kick the ball straight down the middle with your foot, and voila, you've scored. That's jump-scare in a heartbeat. It's easy to scare people. You can scare the average audience by merely changing a scene all of a sudden (without warning), and replacing the scene with a ghost/demon/whatever. For instance, you allow the audience to let its guard down, and BOOM! An enormous pale thing suddenly walls into frame, filling the entire frame. It’s sudden, unexpected and terrifying. Jump-scare 101. Bonus points if the ghost/demon/whatever is nightmarish looking.

Psychological horror on the hand, builds up suspense, messes with your mind, and generally creeps you out. It's makes you paranoid in a way that proves that atmosphere can maintain a sense of tension and dread throughout, and doesn't need to have cheap jump-scares in order to be frightening. It let's you use your own thoughts. When it comes to atmospheric impact, the less you see/expect is always better.

Hereditary and The Babadook are two prime examples of a psychological horror. Both repeatedly build suspense until it becomes unbearable, and very rarely provides audiences the emotional relief of jump-scares. I'd take this two over the run-of-the-mill jump-scare horrors flooding the horror genre, any day.

until I see a woman who can play the role of Thanos, I still believe feminism is DOA.

Think about it, no matter how they try to shove feminism on our faces, the male folk always come bouncing back, with a bang I might add.

Mile 22..6/10
Genre:Action, Adventure, Crime

The dialogue wasn't that good, also the delivery was below average, I personally think the acting was a bit too much and strange especially from Wahlberg, he just yells a lot. Who else noticed the shaky camera, abi na only me notice am

Notwithstanding some of its flaws, the movie had an outstanding concept filled with fast moving action scenes. Iko Uwais Martial art scene was quite amazing.

Probably the only positives in the whole film. The rest are unmitigated junk. Wahlberg is a discount Matt Damon nowadays. Used to be the other way round.

Before I go to sleep- 7/10.

Fantastic performance from Nicole Kidman. It also stars two of my favorite English actors- Colin Firth and Mark Strong.

How do middle aged men in the western entertainment sector manage to keep their bellies flat? Some of our Nigerian brothers who are not even up to 40 are already sporting beer guts but their Hollywood counterparts somehow manage to keep it together. undecided

But I digress! cheesy

It's a psychological thriller that kept me racking my brain throughout the entire film and somehow, on a certain subconscious level, I suspected who the true villain was. However that did not stop me from being gobsmacked when the whole truth was unveiled. You think the storyline was going one direction when it is actually going the other way.

A great watch.

It a gradual process, a stage by stage thing, in a few years we would definitely be seeing something like that by then a female playing the role of masculine character would have been a norm for us,so we won't even realize when it happens

He yells a lot because he is supposedly bipolar, and despite being the hero, he is also a very unpleasant person.

I still maintain it won't be feasible.

Most movie that have female protagonist always tend to ease off after a period of time.

Do a check on them and you'll see this. Have you noticed how Underworld has pummelled?

The only subgenre of the horror genre that scares the sh..it out of me is the paranormal, it just appears so fuckin..g real, that's why I try my possible best to stay off any horror movie that has to do with paranormal activity.

The way you guys now condemn jump scares in horror movies is kind of funny. You guys are painting it as if it is not one of the crucial elements of horror movies, especially movies involving ghost haunt, evil or demon possession and zombies. You guys should just accept you've seen several horror movies and thus jump scares is nothing new to you. The fact that you don't find jump scares scary doesn't mean someone else doesn't find it scary.

Please stop calling it lazy writing or childish, it's one of the crucial elements of horror genre and any filmmaker has the right to adopt it if tells their story the way they want it to.

Even all this blood gore horror slasher movies like SAW, Texas Chainsaw sometimes adopt jump scares to bring new taste to the story telling.

It is an integral framework of horror movies . Stating that jump scares is irrelevant in horror movies is like saying having some level of brutality or extreme violence in fight scenes of action movies is irrelevant, we all know it's one of the things that makes fight scenes memorable.

Am quite aware of his condition, am of the opinion that Wahlberg simply over acted & it kinda made it difficulty to connect with the character, someone like Ben Aflleck would have done an amazing job interpreting that particular role.

Paranormal Activity is the sh*t. It belongs to found-footage subgenre, which is actually my favorite subgenre of horror. The suspense and the sense of unease it generates is unreal. Very intense. The realism aspect is unmatched by any other.

Have you watched Rec, Quarantine, and Night Shyamalan's The Visit?

Jump-scare works very well in slasher horror for the simple fact that it's an integral part of the subgenre. Suffice to say, slasher horror's entire foundation is built on jump-scares. Slasher horror without jump-scare will cease to be relevant.

However, jump-scare in haunting and demon possessions is lazy writing. If a demon possession horror can't create suspense and electrifying tension by tactfully using atmospheric impact, then it's not worth my time.
