What makes you think someone that can't handle CB physically will be able to play midfield?

Centreback is the easiest position to play physically because you get more recovery time between actions, unlike midfield where running never stops. That's why some centrebacks like John Terry would continue playing with broken back for 10 years, whilst Ledley King would play CB for 10 years without cartilage in his knees. They could never try that in midfield.

When I gained weight after an injury, I switched position from striker to centreback for my last year of uni football.

There is no French coach that won't pick a white player if he is good enough.

V. Kompany seems to have lost his defensive abilities. His best moments on the pitch today was making a couple of penetrative passes to attackers deep in opposition half. Instead, he should be leading the defense to combat the loadful of goals they shipped in.
