No surprise that former Liverpool players think their defender is the best in the world. They are entitled to that opinion. I am agnostic to who the best defender in the world is.

However, him being the best CB in the world, or being LFCs best player this season (which he isn't) is not equivalent to saying he is the sole reason for their UCL final or their current second position. If there is any data to back this up, bring it.

Raumdueter did not even say Laporte was better than VVD. He raised up Laporte to challenge what BlackMantra said about LFC conceding the least amount of goals and what not.

If you see him showing missteps and mistakes from VVD it is because he is trying to puncture that notion that VVD is the sole deliverer of LFC. VVD is their best defender - easily, so if they concede goals he should take the blame to the same degree that you people are dashing him all the plaudits.

As for Messi and Barca, we are now MessiFC I agree, but we were not MessiFC in 2008/09 or 2010/11 even though Messi was clearly our best player. Nobody can then claim "Messi is the sole reason Barca won the UCL in those years" it will be tantamount to ojoro conclusion. Simple.

Van djik has been Liverpool's best player so far this current season.. ask any sensible Liverpool fan and I know the answer would be same...

When a player gets to a position to score or stop o goal he is expected to do so. Vvd got into position and did what was expected unlike hummels

None of them ever called lovren, Matip, sakho best defender in the league or among the bests in the world. So don't try to rubbish it because Liverpool is their team.
