Bunmip: One month worth of financial activity should be good enough. However, the volume of inflow and outflow from the account also help. If only a few number of deposits or withdrawals were made, it may make the statement look scanty. It would be nice if there's a good number of deposits and withdrawals. Also, depending on when your interview date is, I believe a statement in October is recent enough. |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Nobody: 10:11pm On Nov 20, 2018 |
Soothing: It's not that simple to give a 'yes' or 'no' answer. It depends on the context. If you have a brother studying in the US, it's usually easier to explain that than having a brother in the US who is a legal permanent resident (green card holder). However, I have seen folks who were granted visas despite having immediate relatives who were legal permanent residents, while I've also seen others denied. I believe how strongly you're able to convince the VO of strong(er) ties to Nigeria may be a factor. 2 Likes |

Godchangemylife: Yeah I already told people that paid less for their I-20 to. Please tell me how they did it. The students that were talking about it are not online on nairaland anymore. If anyone recently got an i-20 please tell me the method you used. Can't imagine paying 150 dollars again for I-20 when sevis fee and visa fees are yet to be paid |

My school made use of a service provider UEMS, where one can register and request for one's I-20 via FedEx OR UPS. With FedEx, you pay $115 while with ups, the charge is $91.15. I'll advice you check UEMS on google and see if your school is listed. Spring2019: |

100kobo: The tuition cost that the poster stated wasn't exactly untrue. I looked up the cost of attendance (for the Master of Science in Sustainability Management programme) at the Illinois institute of technology in Chicago. The total cost of attendance for a year isn't $61k as someone wrongly stated. A breakdown from the school's website is below. The Master of Science in Sustainability Management programme is under the Stuart School of Business. The amount that he stated was the tuition and fees for graduate programmes in the College of Engineering, Lewis College of Human Sciences, College of Science, and School of Applied Technology. Graduate programs in the Armour College of Engineering, Lewis College of Human Sciences, College of Science, and School of Applied Technology; for a break-down of the tuition and fees, please visit the Student Accounting Office website.* Tuition Rate: $1,530 per credit hour Tuition & Fees: $31,947 Room & Board: $13,500 Total Estimated First Year Tuition & Expenses: $45,447 Graduate programs in the Stuart School of Business (excludes MPA); for a break-down of the tuition and fees, please visit the Student Accounting Office website.* Tuition Rate: $1,725 per credit hour Tuition & Fees: $35,407 Room & Board: $13,500 Total Estimated First Year Tuition & Expenses: $48,907 1 Like

sensisosu: Yea, your two kids is a nice home ties but I don't think they would allow your kids in the Consulate since it's not their interview. I know they allow parents to accompany under age kids for their interview, I don't know if the other way round is allowed. You won't be asked if you are engaged. You would only be asked "do you have kids?" and "are you married"?. In my opinion, you trying to answer "are you married?" with "No, but am engaged" would either be misinterpreted as a rehearsed scam or it would make you look desperate 3 Likes |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Nobody: 6:12am On Nov 21, 2018 |
sensisosu: Kids as home ties to the country is a tricky one. In a sense, it can be seen as a home tie and from another angle, it can be a stumbling block. If the issue of kids come up in the interview, the way you answer it may singularly determine whether you'll be given the visa or not. I have a friend who has kids that recently interviewed. She was asked by the VO, "Who will take care of your kids in your absence?" She replied that her husband will. She was then asked about the nature of her husband's job (he's a banker). Apparently, the VO wasn't satisfied and didn't give her the visa. I don't mean to sound pessimistic as there are a good number of folks with kids who have been given visas. However, your answer to the question about the kids has to be very tight and convincing. 1 Like |

sheke01: thanks for your input.. the reason why i do not want to disclose that i am married is because my husband is a green card holder and if i put his name and date of birth in the form, they will know he is over there and it may become a red flag.. at this junction i am very confused as to what to do about this.. i know being married with kids is a good home tie. but i dont want to shoot myself in the leg. |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Adhheir: 7:59am On Nov 21, 2018 |
sensisosu: Dependents Remaining at home - If your spouse and children are remaining behind in your country, be prepared to address how they will support themselves in your absence. If the consular officer gains the impression that your family will need you to remit money from the U.S in order to support them, your student visa application will almost certainly be denied. If your family does decide to join you at a later time, it is helpful to have them apply at the same post where you applied for your visa. This is one of the points my school sent to me in preparation for nonimmigrant Visa. With warm regards |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Adhheir: 8:05am On Nov 21, 2018 |
Demonicide: 1. Appointment letter 2. Nonimmigrant Visa - Confirmation Page (DS-160) 3. Visa fee receipt (GTB) 4. Original I-20 5. SEVIS I-901 payment confirmation 6. International passport 7. Birth certificate 8. (1) 2X2 passport 9. Diploma or degree Cert. 10. Standardized test scores (if applicable) 11. Admission letter. People at the gate will hassle you to patronize them for one thing or another, I'd advise you not to...if you have all this just walk confidently into the embassy don't let them plant any fear inside of you. Don't go with your phones, drop them at the hotel or someplace. They'll charge you heavily to keep it with them and since you won't be spending all day at the embassy; you can do without your phone. Goodluck! 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Adhheir: 8:15am On Nov 21, 2018 |
dimejalex: Deferring to fall would be very convenient for you, you can book your visa date early and prepare well. For now, it has been alleged that consular do not appreciate it when your interview date is too close to your resumption date and even if you get an expedited appointment at this stage it'll still be very close to spring start date. Its still your decision to make and I'll stick with what the academic evaluator advised you. Like every successful applicant say "preparation is key" |
