Don't mind him...His suggestions has no basis
If a lecturer in federal university earn 140k.How much does a graduate assistant earns?
Secondly do you know what it entails to get to residency?
Thirdly, most lecturers are into other biz that pays them well which a practicing medical doctor will work all thru the whole day.
Fourthly,it is all about passion...if you have the fund travel abroad and go for your M.sc &PHD and you won't regret it o.it is only in Nigerians that doctors are given preferences but same is not applicable in other countries.

Chief thanks, residency is a major set bk here, oga pls dont venture into medicine with hopes of bin in Nigeria.
D won't know till d get in, experience is d best teacher

Op I will advice you go for DE and do what you want in life and be fulfill not only financially but also psychological. I graduated with with HND I wasn't fulfill because that's the less I desired and was hungered for bachelor, but forks keep discouraging to rather go for PGD but I followed my heart and it paid at last. Here is my story to inspire your aspiration.

It was in a similar situation with yours, though a bit different, after graduating with HND in banking and finance from IMT upper credit, I searched for job 4 years with no one coming forth except few marketing jobs with meagre commissions. I decided to go back to school, as st then I was already 26, so I took direct entry form study for the screening, passed and got admitted into 200 level same course in university of Nigeria. Fast forward , after 2 yrs and seven months I graduated with a first class, in less than four months (November precisely,)after graduation I landed a job in one of the multinationals with a huge pay package. All my friends who counter the move and mocked what i was doing as at then still lavish in pains and anguish.
The summary is do what you know that can give you joy and fulfiled life, forget and time just keep doing the right thing.

My advice go for Medicine, I will advice you to also take jamb along with DE and you will laugh last

Good day everyone. I am a final yr biochemistry student. And i have been wondering what to do after school. Ive always dreamt of studying medicine but the situation here in Nigeria has discouraged me(due to how difficult it is to get the admission even after scoring good enough scores in Jamb and p.utme).

I'm speculating if i should take a direct entry form or i shld just head for my masters as soon as im done. Im quite young so i think if i go for my masters and phd as soon as im done i shall be a phd holder by 26 provided everything goes as planned. But then there is this medicine i also love.

Your advice would be appreciated especially those that have been in this situation before and have already passed through this, any regrets.

If u plan to study medicine abroad or in a private university then fine u can go for it bt if here in Nigeria and in our state/fed universities u might regret ur actions cos u may spend longer years than expected and if u go abroad u still have to run sm courses and exams over again to be integrated there. Doctors here are not valued.

Go for medicine bro. We're in this together. I'm a graduate of computer science... And I'm applying for medicine and surgery by His Grace.

Please which of the schools are you considering and also you are sure they give room for graduates that wants to cross over?

I once made enquiry about Unilag but I heard they want only 1st class graduates and it isn't even so sure as they hardly take graduates into Medicine at 200l

No long talk the choice is between PhD in biochemistry vs m b b s. MBBS will be more financially rewarding. A fresh PhD holder employed in a federal university as lecturer 2 earns a meager 140k while a fresh Medical doctor employed in a federal medical center earns about 260k. A prof. Earns at most 500k while a medical consultant earns over 850k

After education the next thing is money, more money and much more money otherwise you will be frustrated in life.

The choice is yours
ur funny
A prof earns at most 500k lol. Its so hilarious

@op, if you have the PASSION and MEANS, go for medicine.

Biochemistry, microbiology and their siblings are scams as far as present day Nigeria is concerned.
I'm talking from experience,.... 2.1 Microbiology. Almost all of my former classmates that are doing VERY WELL today and are still in the country, left the discipline for other pursuits.

May the good LORD will help you to take the right turn.

If Medicine is ur dream, I say go for it. BCH is not a professional course. But if u still wanna do a master's program, I suggest u go for a professional master's program like MPH (Master's public health).

It is better to go for one's dreams and know that at least u tried, than to take an easier route and live a life full of 'what ifs'.

Hello.... I sent you PM.
I will love to talk to you on this masters in public health ish.... Thanks!

I am not trying to be full stack programmer (though I can, if want to). But more like bioprogramming/structure modelling/bioinformatics, which depending on the array of programming language proficiencies can still do almost anything.

Almost every expect of life has witnessed the integration of technologies.

Just because research in Nigeria universities are not properly funded doesn't mean that's the model everywhere.

I guess you would have to put a condition on this statement PhD holder employed in a federal university as lecturer 2 earns a meager 140k .

Even as a PhD student here in Europe, I earn more than what a professor earns in Nigeria. Please always condition your statement, his horizons may be more than what you're assuming. Not everyone would settle for less.

We know money is important but a succesful career is more important for now. If in a way, he finds biochemistry interesting and has a good GP, I could suggest he goes abroad for his MSc and PhD. He won't regret it. I have seen students in his field do extensive research in medical labs. Medicine is far more than just prescribing drugs or carrying out operations for sick patients.

How do you earn that sir?

By working ?
Re: Advice: Should I Go For Medicine Or For A Masters? by AnanseK(m): 9:38pm On Jan 05, 2019
Many were in the same situation with you in the past. Without hesitation I will advise you to go for the MBBS after your BSc in Biochemistry. MBBS opens many doors for you and will not stop you from getting a PhD. And you also have the interest. Don’t hesitate, Go for the MBBS and thank me later.

As far as Nigeria is concerned, Biochemistry will not fetch you any good job. Even with a first class or Masters or PhD, your best bet is a lecturing job. I advise you go for Medicine or Law, or any other professional course since you're willing to continue studying.

Talking from experience, I studied Microbiology and was jobless for 3yrs even with a good 2.1 grade. I had a lot of friends in similar situation. I then switched all the way to study Law, it's paying off and I'm very glad I did. You can never go wrong with a professional course.
