In Addis, we have this coffee houses everywhere and some of them pour the powdered Khat into the coffee not letting the user know. They make people addicted that way too. Be careful with the Ethiopian guys. . .ask them anything they are doing.

About Somalis,

I have never had Somali friend or neighbor but they live in Addis. They live in Bole district in a place named 'Somali tera'. It means Somali place.

Funny thing, I always meet them when I went to clinic or hospital. They are right there. For my check up, my mom's visit and grandmas visit. . .they were still there. For one somali patient comes 30 Somalis! They are looouuuuddd too. They act like they own the city. Once, I had to come out because they were loud in the hospital. I had to take a fresh air so I sat out side in the shelter. They were out there again and loouuuddd. I wanted to tell them to keep it down but they looked at me like 'Who the hell is this?'. So I had to go out and stay in the car lol.

But I've never communicated with them. To be honest, any other African (who is not Ethiopian) is loud for Ethiopians. We have Nigerians in campus and they are also loud compared to us. But the Somali 'loud' is something else. I have not noticed any thing other than that about Somalis. There use to be annoying Somali nairalander I wanted to kick because he make really bad topics by the name of Eritreans and Ethiopians too. Axum, Somalia9 etc . . drives me crazy. We do have a very nice nairalander from Somalia too. But sadly, he deactivated his account.


When you live together with people, there is a high chance for argument. Leave alone different nations, same nations may also annoy eachother. Even though the Somalis you have explained are not good. Ever had that type of experience with your Ethiopian neighbors

Come to Addis then you will see them chew it on street, in the taxi and everywhere. Their mouth is filled with that and you see some of them going crazy. Taxi drivers do that a lot. They may even offer you to have it lol

Ethiopians become very good when they use Khat. They like to share it with everyone and have fun. lol

Honestly, I have never heard of khat before until you mentioned it. Hence I didn't even know it was a hardcore drug. The revelation is still a shock to me. I'm surprised you say it's addictive, because I never felt anything when I took it. I just thought it tasted a little bitter for something that they seemed to enjoy so much. Lesson learned lol.

Yes, they become quite talkative & funny. One of the reasons I enjoy their company. But I never thought their demeanor was connected to the leaves. Sobering I must say.

You've pretty much said it all @ bolded. Btw, we also think others are loud. I can't stand noise in general though. I like quietness. I've said those exact words about Nigerians & Somalis, in another thread. They're very similar lol.

Ethiopians are decent people. They don't have notice-me tendencies, so it's not difficult to get along with them. They can be loud when they get together though. But it's not an intolerable type of noise. Plus it doesn't happen all the time. Hence personally, I prefer them over Somalis.

Yes, tenna and selam are Amharic words. But can you say tenna correctly? Can you say tenna yistilgn with the right accent?

No, we don't share a kitchen & toilets lol. It's a normal flat with separate units. Each has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge & full bathrooms. My dream is to purchase my own home. I'm not built for this sharing of an address thing either. I want solitude in a leafy suburb somewhere. Kanti wena, where do you stay, CBD or Kasi?
