Ever read the book Great Expectations? I can relate to one of the chacters, Miss Havisham, the recluse. She was about to get married. Had her wedding dress on & all the preparations were made, but the groom decided not to show up. Miss Havisham then spent the rest of her life alone in her mansion, still in her wedding gown. Apparently her character was based on a real life person, living in Australia around the time the book was published. The author heard of her story from a British friend who lived for some time in the area where this took place. I can't remember the name of the real person now but allegedly her gravesite is a tourist attraction in Australia because of her sad story. She was actually found in an, old, tattered wedding dress & everything else was also as it was the day she was abandoned by the man she was about to marry. They say she kept her door slightly open, held by a chain of course...waiting for him to return.
