My younger brother would be travelling to SA on Wednesday for his program at the University of Johannesburg. I was thinking of buying a one way ticket for him, since he has was granted a study visa, in my opinion, I think return ticket's should be for tourist visas holders. But to my dismay some one was telling me to buy a return ticket for him, My concern is that my brother won't be returning to Naija till next year when his program will end, so I don't see the need for an immediate return ticket due to financial constrains. Lastly! A paid return ticket wasn't stated on his visa. PLEASE HOUSE I AM CONFUSED!! PLEASE ADVISE ME. THIS S.A PEOPLE AND THEIR RULES ARE JUST TOO MUCH JARE!

Congratulations to your brother. Since he is going on a study permit, he does not need a return ticket. Just incase you need to purchase some rand, you can always contact me.

I submitted the application for my study permit renewal on the 25th of January, 2019.
Ever since I have not gotten any update. I’m at the risk of losing my NRF scholarship and my PhD research has suffered immensely. I don’t know what else to do. Please help.

Oops. Sorry about that.
Renewals are always best within SA. Not outside.

Yes, you are not supposed to pay before being granted a visa

Bro they have never called anyone to inform them that their passport is ready for pick up with regards to South African visa before, the best you can get is a text message or an email.

Sometimes they don't even inform the visa applicants at all, you can track your visa on the vfs website.

They call to ask questions to clarify certain things with regards to the application, but I have never come across applicants they call for a pick up

And I have been involved with South African visa application process since they days it took only Five days to get a tourist visa.

Okay thank you

So they do call all applicants to ask questions?

Is it a must someone must be called and being asked questions?

No, they don't call all applicants and I don't think it means you won't be granted a visa if you weren't called.

I don't know the criteria they use to select applicants they eventually call since I am not a visa officer.

Nonetheless, I believe they call to ascertain that the application is 100% genuine, perhaps they had their doubts about the application to begin with.
