Or drax the destroyer who looks like a failed navi avatar?

The Others.

7/10.

Kinda creepy and sad. Telling a story from the perspective of ghosts who don't even know they're ghosts.

The Piano Teacher
Weird movie. I wonder why Europeans are far more explicit than their counterparts from the West.

I don't do horror movies (except for The Purge Franchise grin)

Reason, I dream about almost every movie that I watch except the bad ones that can pass for waste of time. Few minutes of horror flicks will just mess up my night sleep for days. I stay clear of anything horror be it pictures, movies or write ups. {a gaze at the calendar of Clifford Orji of those days denied me eating meet for weeks cry)

The shining

6/10

So I was reading the book, I was at the last chapters when I came to the thread and happened upon the horror movies discussion which piqued my interest in seeing a horror flick; being aware that the book had an adaptation I decided to see it. I read some positive reviews about the movie and even discovered it was dubbed one of the best horror movies but boy I was in for some disappointment. The movie does not come close to the book and the book wasn't all that great but it was miles better than the movie.
I found the movie to be decent and a let down at the same time, the only part I really enjoyed (SPOILERS AHEAD) was when the kid lured the monster into the hedge maze, ran to a certain distance, retraced his steps and got rid of his tracks to where he hid thereby getting rid of the monster by trapping it in the maze.

They should have stayed faithful to the book.

I remember watching the movie after KoiceReloaded_ suggested it to me and ended up terribly disappointed. Despite its high rating on RT and MC, the movie was so boring I gave it either 3 or 4/10 rating. The Shinning still remains the most boring horror movie I've ever watched, though I acknowledged the fact that if I'd watched in my childhood days, I'd have rated it high and probably enjoyed it. Too bad I watched it as an adult.

I used to think I was too harsh with my rating as Koice pointed out, until I watched Ready Player One and in the movie, one of the clues revealed that The Shinning was the novel whose movie adaptation the writer (Stephen King) hated. So, I guess if the writer of the novel felt disappointed with the movie adaption, anyone that feels that way will probably be right as well. cheesy

The movie is great. You have to account for the fact that it was made far back when horror movies where far and few in between.

Books usually come out better than the movies

You made a good point in your first paragraph. Same reason I pointed out in my penultimate post.

Why on earth will you binge on horror movies?? Your subconscious will definitely regurgitate what you have stuffed with. In my case, I rarely have bad dreams when I watch horror films, but there are a few exceptions. Annabelle was worse than Hereditary, scared me more but did not cause me nightmares. Hereditary did. That film is just plain nasty.

Different strokes for different folks. Variety is the spice of life, I guess.

I have a co-worker friend, a lady for that matter, she stockpiles Horror movies in her laptop and only enjoy horror movies from 12am upwards. She laughs while watching it. No iota of fear at all. grin

Have you seen Piano Teacher? They actually showed séx. ACTUAL SÉX. I also collected one French film from a friend. She has a lot of them because she is learning the language and 20 minutes or so into the film, two guys were going at it and everything (penetration) was shown. Another one was about a woman who falls for her psychoanalyst and that was explicit too and I am not talking after hours movies. I am talking Palme d'Or winning movies.

It's one of his best books, yes, but I would still argue that it wasn't "all that great" because I can't count the number of times I put it down to do something else that wasn't even important to me. It was a passive read (took me almost two weeks to finish) but I must confess that his prose and vocabularies and very engaging.
Can you give me your own ranking of his top five novels? Preferably in the horror genre.
In no particular order-
Christine
The Stand
The Shining
Cujo
The Regulators

No be small thing. They also tend to make more arthouse films. I guess because they don't have budgets as big as those of some other countries but the explicity can be very.......anyhow.

Sorry to bother you but @ bolded Mr Beorn, I am very much interested in knowing how you knew that your so-called female coworker friend usually laugh whenever she is watching movies during the midnight.

Is sleeping on the same bed with her overnight part of your job specifications? undecided

Nobody's Fool ...3/10
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance

Tyler Perry clearly lacks narrative unity and thematic consistency. The storyline of this flick, kept bouncing from one plot/premise/theme to another, at a point, it was a romantic comedy, then it transcended to a revenge comedy, & then to a rehabilitation drama & finally, to a romantic reconciliation, Haba! na wetin?. In fact, it was so bad that i kept asking myself what the heck the flick was about. The storyline while lacking structure & cohesion, went nowhere, his scenes were fizzle and he seems to barely direct his actors.
Haddish performance wasn't that bad infact, she was one of the few reasons the flick was watchable.
Don't mean to be hash, but of a truth, Tyler Perry ended up making a big fool of a movie. My only consolation is the fact that i didn't download this Shiite, and never will i download any Tyler Perrys' movie. Guys steer clear of this one .

The worst part of the film for me is the fact that none of the characters is likeable. Besides the mom, we weren't give enough to sympathize with anyone at all. For Brandon, other than some teasing at school, he had a nice life. His dad for some reason treated Brandon like a kid they adopted at 7. Every kill he committed I didn't feel one way or the other about it. I withal already could tell that he was going to kill his parents because he pellucidly had no emotions towards anything.

Overall, I relished the movie for what it was, a frolicsome spin on the superhero genre, but i just felt like they could have fleshed things out a lot more. Make us want Brandon to be good, make us want his parents to be alive, make us want a sequel. A missed opportunity.

6.5/10

That's what she told me. I can't be doubting her. Plus whenever she's asking our colleagues for movies, she's always seeking for horror movies mostly. I've never seen any lady with much thirst for horror movies like her.
